Thank you. Yes, a very special place. I was there one months before the flooding. When several hikers got sick from norovirus. As for my shoes: I was using the Merrell Moab Speed 2 Wide Width. .
I was just there on Friday, September 20th, 2024 and the trail was still closed due to the Norovirus outbreak, ☹ but still had a great time at Ke'e Beach and saw a rare monk seal, as well as the Forest Service helicopters removing all of the trash from those living illegally in the park.
Another INCREDIBLE video, and it perfectly captures this magical hike! I love it! Thank you! Have you ever considered making a video like this of the full kayak and hike to Secret Falls? I'm sure a lot of people, who have done that and want to re-live it, would love that, as well as those thinking of doing it... and it's so popular it might get a lot of views.
Thank you for your video awesome I’ve hiked the stairs back in the early 80’s and it’s amazing and it’s the ONLY SAFE Way to get up there Moanalua trail is very dangerous and risky like I said the stairs is VERY SAFE but THANK YOU for sharing your videos
You had a amazing experience!! I am sure that only those who have taken on the challenge can understand how wonderful it is My condolences to those who lost their lives in the flood.
Aloha! I just finished Kalalau! On my list for years and my first real backpacking trip, it was grueling! Havasupai looks similar in length, but much easier in technicality--am I wrong? Thank you
You are correct; it's not technical at all. The trail was well maintained, at least before the recent flash flood. One difference is that Havasupai has no water between Hilltop and Supai Village for 8 miles, and the extreme summer heat is a factor as well. Enjoy!
@TobyVisuals808 Awesome! Thank you. I, pretty much, carried two Geo Press' and a 1 Liter bottle the whole time at Kalalau (in hindsight, I think I didn't trust the ability to capture water in late August) 8 miles. No water capture. Got it! Thank you
Me and 3 of my friends did this hike, were all 15-16 and we had a rough time. Were are all in very good shape and it took us almost 8 hours (all with 25lb+ bags and breaks). We spent 2 nights under a 8x8 tarp with sleeping bad and it worked great. But would recommend staying 3 night because we were wiped.
Thanks for including the equipment you used. I just bought the same hiking pole, and electrolytes tablet. I have a good hiking boots that I’ve used in Annapurna circuit in Nepal. I also have double layer socks.
I love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. You make me feel like I was there with you. So amazing. I want to do this hike. I know haiku stairs are being taken done now or soon 😢
I love your videos because you have the whole footage from begging to the end of the hike. Do you know if the Moanalua Valley Trail will be open? I check the all trail app and it says it’s closed.
Thank you. Yes I think they closed the Middle Ridge for the stairs removal. Here is the link: governor.hawaii.gov/newsroom/dlnr-news-release-portion-of-forest-reserve-closed-for-haiku-stairs-removal-may-9-2024/
Beautiful... Thank you for sharing! I love this hike and your video takes me right back! One question if you don't mind: The trail is so much busier than when I would hike it just about 5-10 years back. It wasn't uncommon for only one other person or group to be at the first falls, and then for me to be all alone at the second. Do you remember if you filmed this on a weekend or was it a weekday?
Completed the hike Wednesday 5/08/24 thank you for your help. This was forsure a challenging hike started @4:10 with it raining and the wind speeds I questions myself a lot of the times wanting to go back but because some of the ropes weren’t there that was in the video. Made it to the top with no regrets! Tips for anyone else just be prepared with being comfortable with being unconfrortable!
No cops on the back way, only if you take the stairs down. Also it will be muddy and slippery at the moment. Some of the ropes you see in this video have been removed.
@@TobyVisuals808 sounds good I appreicate the help with that being said should I be fine in just some regular hiking shoes maybe some gloves to get a grip on those steep areas since there no rope?
