So much talk about Nature and your love for it. such a hypocrisy... Stop using toilet paper, its against the nature, trees are cut down to make toilet paper, Western countries use unimaginable amount of toilet paper.... Use water. You could have learned that in India.

honking is for safety and to let others know that i am behind or i am overtaking you or asking way to overtake or to change lanes. it prevents accidents. it works in india because traffic police cannot be everywhere to guide the traffic, people are careful if they hear a honk. it a kind of self regulation to prevent accidents. it works in india. so it will happen in india. if you don't like things in india, no one forced you to come here. Tourist should come, experience and get going. There is no point of giving advice. Remember you did not come to india to change it or improve it. Did you? Women safety is an issue everywhere in the world. Mugging, rapes, assaults, robbery is common in all western, eastern, southern and central earth. As a general rule, no human being should roam around shady localities alone anywhere in the world. Garbage disposal is a government created problem, they give contracts to private sectors and they take the money and never do the job. Garbage collection companies are the biggest hotspots of corruption in India. People throw garbage in random places because enough dustbin are not made available. we can do better with the garbage thing. It will only stop when people start asking for answers for the tax they pay and why the pile of garbage exist in the locality. Don't go around trying to educate Indians about how to handle garbage. This is not your country. Some people may take offence and may harm you. Please Do not save the nature at the expense of your life and dignity. India is a free country in its literal sense. Government does not implement the exact rules on the road. Not just road, all rules apply depending on the situation and seriousness. Our definition of seriousness is not the same as western laws. Also every state has state specific laws, they are all indian laws, a variety of them. You already know what I am talking about. Anyways I have seen people smoking weed everywhere in india but marijuana is highly illegal in India. I do not see foreigners complain about that!! why?? because you people do that too and like it too? do not be a hypocrite. A brown guy is always discriminated in Europe and north america. Do not talk about discrimination here in India.. Foreigners are given a lot of respect because we think that Guest are god. If you complain about isolated events, that would be hypocrisy considering the worst treatment a brown guy have to face everyday in west.

All the problems you stated are the problems even we as Indians think needs to be solved. 1. Honking is a curse but then historically due to poor road conditions and existing poor traffic management, honking has become a tool to communicate. Thats why you would actually see less road accidents on a rather crowded street become of management through honking. 2. ATM situation - People are generally innocent and they really dont find people standing behind. Even if you request people to go out, they might very well not understand why you said so. 3. Using hands to serve - Its a grey area. You can wash hands multiple times in an hour you cant wash gloves or utensils that often. That being said, hygiene standards are generally poor because even someone who is poor and drinks unsafe tap water can open a food cart. And by his own quality standards, he/she thinks that the food is of great quality. Thats why we usually avoid such places. Regulating such places is a difficult task for the govt. 4. Littering - Even i dont understand why people litter. I would recommend you come to my state, Madhya Pradesh. Things are way better here. My city is a lot cleaner then busy European and American cities and people are generally mindful of trash.

Your take on everything has been honest and precise. Much appreciated. 1. Honking is...ingrained in the psyche in a way. Cars honk when they see you at visible distance from the road because they seek to warn you. Most understand that you can hear the car approaching, but they decide to 'play it' on the safer side of thigs. In India unintentional roadkill happens in volumes. But, honking at a solo girl traveler for reasons that have to with simple teasing are NOT to be ruled out either. 2. Indians DO NOT use toilet papers. Not generally. We prefer water and soap and towel. Toilet papers make us (most of us anyway) feel kinda unclean. 3. Tipping is purely voluntary here- it's not as toxic as it is in the USA. If you feel like it, you can tip. No pressure at all. 4. The enormous amount of paperwork are repetitive because centre and state have got different administrative setups and concerns and departments. Govt bureaucracy continues to be a migraine in India. There are advantages to this as well, but let's not go down that path. 5. COMPLTELY agree on an absence of cleanliness in the public place, lack of awareness about personal space and most importantly, the (typically north Indian) mentality of taking sexual advantage of solo women. This is VERY unfortunate and as an average Indian I genuine feel ashamed. There's NO excuse and I don't know if this will ever end. The ONLY silver lining is the hope that probably with time things MIGHT change for the better. Take care and stay safe.

Many foreigners often complain about cleanliness in India, but I believe that much of this stems from choosing to eat or stay in places that are not up to their usual standards, often in the name of adventure and to save money for the months long trip. Unlike the US and EU, India offers food and accommodation at a wide range of price points. To receive decent service and cleanliness, one should aim for above-average establishments. However, I have noticed that some foreigners opt for entry-level options and then complain about the cleanliness. In contrast, the US and EU have minimal variations in price points for different income levels, making the quality more consistent. Most of it comes from their expectation of a service level similar to their country, you can get that in India, but it would cost the same as their country.

@@yanaslight Yes there is security and just few days back 5 soilders died. Just few days before 9 civilians were killed. not even 1 year old kid was spared by terrorists My job is to make you aware of history so you'll keep in mind of possible threats Please 🙏 read about Girija Tickoo she is part of our heart. you'll.know what India is. My India mother is wounded but not defeated Girija Tickoo was one such victim who fell victim to the barbaric designs of such Islamic fanatics in June 1990. Girija, all of 21 years and a mother of two, had been working in Govt Girls High School, Trehgam (Kupwara), on a non-teaching position. Kashmir Valley was under de-facto control of Pakistan supported terror organizations since September 1989. Most of the Kashmiri Pandits fled the valley in terror in January 1990. It is said that Girija’s family were staying put in the valley, hoping that the madness would be over soon. One day, Girija received a message from one of her Muslim colleagues that situation had improved in their area and she should come to her office in Trehgam, Kupwara, to collect her pay check. Little did an unsuspecting Girija realize that this was probably a ruse to lure her out of her home. She came to Trehgam on June 6, collected her pay-check but, on her way back, she was dragged out of her bus and abducted in a taxi by 5 gun totting men, including one of her Muslim colleagues. What befell Girija is worse than a nightmare - something even a ghoulish mind could not have conceived. She was raped, tortured and, in an ultimate act of fanatic zeal, cut into two pieces with a mechanical saw. Her abused body was found buried under sand in a nullah on June 25, 1990. When her brother Satish Raina was notified by police of her gruesome death, he first could not believe his ears nor muster courage to visit the police station. Later, accompanied by some relatives, he visited the police station where the SHO, a Hindu, with tears in his eyes, again requested them not to insist on seeing the dead body - so badly had it been mutilated. However, the family insisted that whatever was left of Girija be handed over to them so that they could at least give her a proper funeral. Girija Tickoo died unsung, an innocent victim to the machinations of vultures masquerading as power brokers, political animals, and religious bigots who wanted to ethnically cleanse Kashmir. Not even a proper FIR was lodged to investigate her murder, leave aside bringing the culprits to book. Instead, her family started receiving threats of physical harm, forcing them to flee Kashmir. The terrible way Girija was butchered only sent a shiver up the spine of those Kashmiri Pandits who were still clinging to their homes and hearths in the Valley, prompting yet another wave of Exodus, this time from the hinterland of Kashmir
