Im currently installing mine on my ‘90 So when you install the clutch and flywheel did you have to use shims at all? Im very new to this lol its my first time changing so i have little knowledge especially on aftermarket upgrades
OMG wow!!!! So I did things a bit different than I was planning. I bought two pumps from harbor freight for $8 each. Never pulled the pan (only 39k miles), pulled out 6 quarts of DIRTY fluid, I was surprised how dirty it was, nearly black. Then filled 6 clean quarts, then drained again after running the car 10 mins through gears, etc. I drained 4 different times and filled 4 times. Even on the last attempt the fluid was still far from new looking. But I decided to give it a drive, INSTANTLY the trans shifted smooth through all gears and the shudder was gone! I have been losing sleep over this for weeks. It wasn’t that hard to do at all even on a corvette where it’s much tighter working space. Not going to lie I was skeptical on this working. Before I had a hard shift into 5/6/7 gears and then a shudder after it was in those gears. Not it’s smooth shifting and shudder is gone. I pulled out 23 quarts total and put 23 clean quarts in. I estimate that the fluid is still only 75% fresh. My backup plan was if this didn’t fix it, I will drop the pan and change the filter and fill it once more. But I am feeling blessed that this did the trick! WOW thank god! The guy sold me the car knowing it had this problem, but clearly didn’t inform me. What a prick!
I’ve read others say that the dealer can reprogram the TC with some update? And then a garage relearn whatever that means? Have you any info on this TC update? My 16 A8 has a shudder on light throttle. 39k miles
I’ve already replaced my front and rear calipers on a 79 Vette. But I just wanted to say you filmed some great camera angles and thanks for your efforts.
Great Video but I wish you would have shown more clearly where to hook up the vacuum pump. It was the main part of the video and you never focused in on it. Have a 75 project with my son and one headlight doesn't work.
I know this is old video but I use formula 88 degreaser from home Depot and Dawn soap in a Sonic cleaner and I can make carburetors come out looking literally brand new and never have to scrub it one time
Hi Rick, I just saw your P 74 vet differential rebuilt in nine minutes. Amazing you truly are a master mechanic. Question; I have a 69 Corvette and just paid $6500 for a guy to rebuild the diff bearing hubs and training arms. I’m getting bearing noise from the rear and I noticed the diff has play on both sides. The bearings have very little to no play and the only plan I’m finding is at the differential where the half shafts connect. Is that normal?

I used gas to start up my fires till one day i caught the gas can with 2 gallon of gas on fire. Luckily i heard sirens right away, only they never came
Thanks so much for making this video. I had the same problem. You make it look easy and it was. I purchased the Sonnax 35801-02K kit and noticed an O ring on it. It took a little coaxing but I got it installed. Thanks again.
Hi Rick, do you ever find that a seemingly lowering bolt squeak, is really just sway bar bushings ? i really respect your opinion about it, Thank You in advance !!!!!
Thanks for a very informative video. Have to do that on my 2015 corvette before I start getting shudders. Will probably do it 3 times with Mobile 1 blue label to dilute the old fluid. GM sure is making owning their car very difficult. At least leave the dip stick. Nope, too easy for us. Leave room to remove the pan. Nope, too easy. Need to loosen the mount and push up the transmission. Oh well...
There is a tool that removes the shifter seal and replaces it with a new one with 6:02 out having to drop the pan or remove the shifter shaft. Much quicker and no mess.
Awesome super detailed info.... I have a 79 vette with the same issue. After viewing your video I went ahead and replaced the seal but it still leaks so my next step is to replace the shaft itself. After viewing your 2nd video that shows the actual install of the shaft, it looks a little complicated so I might have to take it to a reputable tranny shop.... Again, thanks for taking your time to show us all how it's done.
I was just about to take my cutouts to be welded in until I discovered that titanium and stainless steel don't play well together. Any idea what options I may have? I was thinking of cutting out a section of the exhaust and clamping in a stainless steel section that I could then weld to. thoughts?
I don't think the mid pipes are titanium, just the rear over axle section is titanium. You should be good to weld them on the mid pipe just like in the video. Are you talking stock C5 Z06?
