Imagine your friend painting those, and then telling you it's you. That woman is not impressed, and I don't blame her. Those paintings are absolutely horrific. Like something from a nightmare. If I had created them, I would have checked myself into therapy.

Don't worry Frances, your work has changed - advancing on many fronts. Great film by Penny; atmospheric with unsettling music (just right for your work!).

Challenges from many directions but if she has not been ‘recognised’ how is she able to manage the expense of studio, materials etc. Maybe she will be next on Hauser and Wirth trend for taking on board women artists. Would be wonderful to see the big work for real. Particularly like the comment in that she doesn’t like work to look ‘nice’. How unusual is it to see a woman working in this way?

I totally understand what she means by Abstract work being more difficult. It’s not easy to get an abstract piece of work to be “good”. Your color choices, shape, dimension, depth, transparency, canvas size. All need to work together. That’s not easy to do...at least for me it isn’t. I love it!

@Philip Gomez Very simple my friend: it is called culture. If you keep doing children's paintings when you are an adult, in western civilization will laugh at you. If you are born in an australian aboriginal environment, it will be perfectly normal. Industrial civilization will condition you as you grow up with a programmed education geared towards making you competitive. I am almost sure that in your house you have a refrigerator, a stove, a water heater. You take a shower with warm water, during winter you may have some form of heating, in summer air conditioning, etc. None of this is produced in primitive tribes. We are products of western industrial conquering civilizations. I am not saying that is right or wrong, I am narrating facts. Abstract artists have to deprogram themselves and create their own language.

The amount and density of the energy that radiates from the canvases is quite extraordinary. Artists spend life time trying to channel any sort of energy or emotion, and here is plenty. Some people call it mess, I don't know why they watch an episode about abstract art if they're gonna use that word.

Thank you for this conversation. What an enjoyable description of processes, thoughts, and intentions... sometimes putting your world into words lessens the meaning. Not so here. Frances, you have quite a successful painting expression. Powerful.

This was a very interesting conversation - but it was extremely difficult to hear distinctly what Daniel and Hannah were saying. The echo from talking in such a big (fairly empty|) space, really distorted the sound. In the end, I gave up listening and just enjoyed looking at the paintings themselves which are wonderful and I only wish I could have got to Woodstock to actually see them!

Dear Rhona, it is a very fair point about the acoustics for this one, which were very challenging. Rest assured, we are aware this is less than ideal. It is the first video we created from this particular space and will be addressing the audio issues in any future videos from this particular space. These are new challenges which we are doing our best to address. So pleased you enjoyed the paintings and we do hope to welcome you to the gallery in the future once it is safe to do so.

The monotonal look of Daniel's landscapes completely resonates with me when a few years ago I was out in the rural Cotswolds during a glittering deep winter hoarfrost. Everything was bleached and washed-out of any colour - the landscape utterly monotoned into variegated greys. And, closeup to bushes and trees the clothing bleaching hoarfrost sparkled that, sadly, my camera couldn't pick up in the digital photos I took. Except, one sees Daniel's preparatory photographic shots are monotones taken during his coloured exploratory sojourns seeking out 'colourless landscapes' to make wondrous grey works of art from.

These are hand built (coiled) pots aren't they?* Reminded me of what's-iz-name 'trans Perry person's pots' (Perry Mason, Merry Jason, Jerry Pason - O what is the engaging ott girly-man-potter's name? Anyway, Claudia's ceramic curiosities are immediately appealing to the eye and requiring closer scrutiny of what the decoration is all about. Loved the broken 'Brexit pot' though I don't entirely agree with the politicised message. A bit patronising I'd say. As a Brexiteer who adores Europe said pot might in my hands be dropped to the floor to enjoy further breaking of it. Not to worry - it could always be glued together again :-) _*Have since noted another video I hadn't previously seen that Claudia's pots are indeed hand constructed from 'coiled clay' __ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PMWEZCdHLkk_.html

It is absolutely fabulous to see such a talented woman producing such wonderful art. The tour around Alyssa's studio and the insight to her process just makes me want to paint. Alyssa, I think you are an inspiration to the young and old, your enthusiasm and freedom of expression is priceless in these challenging times. I wish you all the best for your future, Sincerely, Sera from Australia.
