hi, do you have any idea what i could use to hold together a rolling scroll that got torn at the top along the line of where the wood is? it arrived like that i would use masking tape from behind but i think it is Very old scroll so any advice on where to find the best information on how to repair old scrolls would be hugely appreciated Very informative helpful video thanks.. sorry i found it bugging that there was so much noise in the background.. was someone cooking?

Very helpful.. but would have been a really good idea to tell people in the room to not make noise when you are filming

Our gallery has a large pottery studio next to on one side, a community of painters on the other, and a stained glass studio across the hall. Our videos focus on information, the production is what it is. I hope you found the info valuable.

That's a great book and the prints are in really nice condition, love that blue color ink! Thanks for your description and walking us through the pages. I'm actually working on a video on the 47 Ronin story.

We have 20 of them individually in the gallery in great condition, but this book is just fascinating :)

BadIdea(TM) Nishiki-e prints use watercolor pigments as color, and nori paste (water-soluble) as bind. So... disregarding that the dirt/mold/etc. might stick forever inside the paper because of putting it inside water without prior cleaning, it's a terrible idea to submerge in water a water-based print, even though the pigment might be trapped inside the paper fibers because of the pressure of the baren used in printing. Instead, you could use a gelatinous substance damped and place it just in the corners to wet that specific part.

Uncarved woodblocks - e.g. shina or cherry - are excellent for drying and flattening prints. The wood slowly wicks out the water leaves prints permanently flat as a pancake.

You might safety and nondestructively take a keyblock impression using liquid sumi/calligraphy ink.
