this show was musically insane..... but overall design... felt very amateurish.....I love CC, but this felt very high school design level... just wasn't really that good... sloppy, and just childlike "rawrs" just seemed stupid. music Didn't flow at all... They chose some hard music, but it didn't flow together at all.
10:08 You can actually feel the audience's confusion. It's palpable. "What is that thing?" and 11:10 "Why is it abandoned now?" Make it make sense to us. Give it context and meaning.
Jesu Spectre I can hear their cheers. Dude if you hate modern DCI so much then just don’t watch it. I see you literally everywhere bitching about how modern dci sucks.
@@diminuendo61 Everyone gets a say in criticism, it might've not been the most constructive criticism on his part, but he gets to say it none the less. I'm assuming he loves DCI as much as you and I do, and he won't just abandon it out of nowhere. Imagine this, you were raised in a country. And the government of this country is bothering you. In this situation, you asking him to just stop watching modern DCI is like me telling you to move out of your country if you have a problem with the government.
evantenshi Yeah man I see what you’re saying, I was just fed up because I see him EVERYWHERE literally just putting corps on blast for no apparent reason. And it’s EVERY Corp, except BD ofc.. DCI already has enough toxicity, it’s better to try and chase some of it out.
@@diminuendo61 That is very true, I couldn't agree more. There's always gonna be those people that hate. As frustrating as it is, I think sitting back and letting it happen is the best way to deal with it.
sound is great, the non uniformity of dance and movement just needed cleaned up, GE is most the score and that's the weak area. Show ending is much much better than the beginning. Visual seems weak, but in al fairness the view from the person taking video is not like from above. Ending was the high point of the show, they put it all together. Crown should do well, but top 5 I don't know.
I don't understand how people aren't getting the GE. No matter where you look and when, you will see things incorporated into the show to support the GE. Visuals, drill, musical effects(but I do feel like you need to be a musician to understand the musical style and effect aspect of it). Yes the theme beast is very broad but it's pretty obvious to me what they're trying to tell. Although I would agree that the guard is hurting them a lot. I pretty much forget there's a guard in this year's show haha. Scv kills it with thier guard, they're a great example from this year of how to use the color guard. Don't get me wrong though, I love crown. I don't think this is a winning show, but it's definitely a top 3 show. I predict scv takes 1st, crown takes 2nd, and bluecoats takes 3rd, closely followed behind BD and Boston
We get the simple beast theme. We also get that the GE in this show is low-impact because of design shortcomings. Here's the breakdown. 1) The show lacks a through-line. 2) The show lacks an arc of action (story arc, or emotional arc, or pattern arc, lacks recurring elements). 3) The rocking "shrine" is visually striking and original, but it doesn't integrate into a larger arc of action or pattern of any kind. 4) The rocking "shrine" lacks a real world sensibility. What is it? What is its metaphor, its raison d'etre? How does it impact its riders? How does it change things or people? 5) The "If I fell" section appears to be about women who are in a relationship with a beast, but it's unclear. What happens to them? How are these women impacted in a relationship with a beast? What happens to their relationship? 6) The visual image of the beast on the side of the shrine is striking, but what's the purpose of the image? How does it integrate with the action of the show? 7) What is the large beast image on the tarps? Who is it? Why is it so menacing? We haven't seen this character before, so what does it mean? 8) What has changed by the end? Why is the beast in his final expression still angry or angrier than before? Why is the ending music anthemic? Is it a tribute to the beast? There's no real-world sensibility or pattern to the images or scenes presented in the show.
The music is great as it always is from crown, but the show design is poor until around the end. Otherwise everything just feels out of place. However, I love this show and I will watch it all the time because it riddles me with goosebumps.
I've never heard a show where I sincerely feel that if this show had fewer notes it would be better.. Its all over the place.. Runs are clean somewhat but it sounds overly technical ..
both of you stop criticizing each other. Yes they lack in some parts of the show. musically it's good. visually it's great. these highschool and college students have worked there asses off
I feel that the transitions from one song to another are very weak. They don’t blend together and just seem thrown together. 2:57 Whole change in energy 10:00 Very ugly transition from power to barbaric
jakob barr I can agree with you there. Their musical analysis suffers because of this. It’s unfortunate because they fixed a few areas over the season, but didn’t quite lock everything into place the way I would’ve liked.
Always a CC fan and am surprised at the technical let down in the Beatles ballad, rhythmic precision and note shape seem irrelevant in anything greater than an 8th note and sound intensity lags. Those are the times to make music, not just play notes. Excited to see where this goes the rest of the season.
SCV had the winning show overall, sure. But after seeing both SCV and Crown live, no way was any other corps in DCI able to touch Crown's brass this year. I thought it was pretty silly that they didn't win the brass crown again.
Very clean, visually and music-wise. The only problem is it's kinda boring. I say that with a heavy heart as Im literally from their home town and love Crown. But man, this could have been an exciting show and it just falls short.
I feel like it was more exciting in some previous iterations. Now the opener feels like they are rushing the tempo and ...I can't follow the plot. Where is it?
Yeah I feel ya, can only speak for myself here but I was really looking forward to an aggressive and literal interpretation of a beast, but instead we got a summoning shrine for some owl-looking thing. I think the direction they went was more for the "beast" within, so it hits the primal aspect of human nature, but honestly we got the PG version of what Beast could have been for drum corps.
i know i’m 4 years late but this is the first time i’ve seen anyone agree with me about this show!! it starts so strong and powerful, it’s my favorite opener in dci but then the motivation just falls off a cliff :( could’ve been an exciting show
I doubt they'll change them....it's a real shame...if someone holds the rope at a different spot...the entire movement is off and makes it dirty...I've been waiting for them to change it for a while but...I don't see it happening.
I feel like they could win....but their flags....such a mess. And the rope flag things are a failure. Just ditch them before finals. It's really such a distraction. They try to play with intentionally "off" timing, but can't pull it off and so it ends up messy instead. I'm sure they could all be better and I'm sure the rope flags are fun to play with, but it's distracting from the show and the hard work of the rest of the corps.
