I seen astro turf once on a base instead of felt lol. So the switch is mounted to the base? I’ve not taken apart a westy yet. Is a tank (1909-10) that way too?
No base plates on a tank. They just have a fiber board cover under the bottom you take one screw off then you can take the screws to drop the switch from the bottom from the base.
Love these models, along with the PowerAires! I just wish Westinghouse didn't use speed resistors on these. They get SO HOT, and they shouldn't be enclosed inside the base. There's no air movement in there to dissipate the heat. I recently restored a Mobilaire, and the resistor is located outside the wiring enclosure so the air movement helps remove the heat. Great job on the restorations! Keep 'em coming!
I also have two of these!!! My local antique shop got one and then another only a few months later. The first worked great and only got a clean and lube. The second needed full rewire and tune up, it works ok. It has some coil buzz even after multiple varnish jobs. These are as new as I like to go for Westy fans. My favorites are the capacitor models, cool and efficient runners! My first (of 12) Westinghouse was a SD3 from my dad.
Is the window fan that was running in the attic a blue three blade emerson fan. If it is it brought back some happy memories of my childhood. I always enjoy your videos. In the future could you video that fan from the outside not running because I would love to see the shape of the blades. Thank you.
Nice haul Larry!!! One of these days I have to check out your collection. I remember mark talking about all the stuff he had when I was at docs a few years ago. I had no idea how large his collection was. I know I have a problem when I could spend hours messing with all those fans.
Nifty little fan! Sometimes those smaller fans are more of a challenge to repair than larger ones. Sounds like it works well after refurbishment, though!
