A lot of the videos on here were from my sister and I's deleted channel called You Can't Unwatch It. A lot of the old videos will be back up but I will also be making new content ranging from anime, to sci-fi or horror or just whatever I want. Stay tuned.
My favorite ANIME movie of all time. For me is in the par with Akira. Had so many feelings watching this movie that dont know how to say it. Thanks for the Video. This movie is really ART.
Well...third time's the charm I guess. I had to take it down a second time due to copyright again. Watch the extended version without watermarks at www.youcantunwatchit.com
7:48 Just skipping to your review of Search for Vengeance. While you are entitled to your opinion, I will admit that this was one of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's weakest films, but I don't think it's terrible. I thought it was fine. And I noticed that you watched the director's cut version. Nice! FINALLY! It's great that somebody reviewed that version. Also, personally, about the English dubbing, I think the international version was better. If you hear Nolan North's voice as Marcus, he sounds more sophisticated and very Caesar Roman-ish. The director's cut made him sound bored. But that's just me. Also, your view on Colin being a Barbarian and Marcus being sophisticated, yeah I get why you don't like that. And personally, I think they "Flip the Premise" with the storyline. And if you are going to ask "What's 'Flip The Premise?'" (Let's call it FTP for short), it's a writing technique where you take an existing story and flip it by making the hero into the villain and the villain into the hero. And then, you write a synopsis for your FTP story. And then, you strip your FTP story to the bare bone but keep the story's concept and make your own story out of it. FTP is what writers use when they have writer's block. It's the best technique IMO if you have writer's block. And in this case, they FTP'ed Highlander 1 itself. In Highlander 1, Conner was the sophisticated one and the Kurgan was the Barbarian and there was Candy the Hooker. You see what I'm saying? Anyway, great review. I'm subscribing to your videos. Hope to see more.
Thank you for watching. As for the whole flip the premise thing, I don't know if I was necessarily asking for that. It was just a case where in this film Marcus was just the more interesting character of the two and would just rather follow film as they didn't make the whole revenge thing with Colin all that compelling. I should have been more clear in the video but I did leave a pinned comment stating what I though would have made a better film.
Grizzly 1976 was following the same trend as other horror films of time.Grizzly 2 Revenge is not a name only sequel and here why Troll 2 what does not have but is refer to sequel 0 trolls they are goblins.
Your old channel got taken down so you moved all your Macross retrospectives to this channel? Welp, I have to rewatch the entire playlist then, provide engagement, and fulfill my solemn duty to spite RU-vid 😂
I didn't know such a thing even existed. How was that? The closest thing I have seen in that area is Isao Takahata's Anne of Green Gables anime adaptation (which was excellent).
@@DecultureReviews It was free to watch on RU-vid and (according to an article I read) was done legally. Not gonna spoil anything from it but it is a forgotten anime film and had very few (or no) videos talking about it.
Yes it was Tideland and it was a pretty good one. The problem was when the old channel went down (Hannah and I are still not sure why but she feels although we have no proof that someone got upset at one or more of the videos and started false flagging them enough to where RU-vid canned it. There was nothing we could do about it) so did the video. I thought I made a back up on it on my hard drive but sadly I stupidly didn't. I do intend to make that one again though. It would give me a chance to clarify my points better and do a better job editing it.
Thanks for the reply. Sorry about it you and your sister’s channel. Do you have any more plans for videos on the Gilliam-athon? Also, apparently, Terry is working in a new film with Dave Bautista. Thank God I can see another one before I lose my favourite director
@@cowbestthisisfiller24 Oh yeah. I intend to do more of this series on top of redoing Tideland. And yes I would love to see at least one more film from Terry before we lose him. He is one of the very...VERY few celebrities (if he qualifies as one...he he he) that I will be sad to see die.
Love your thoughts, the original The Crow is my 2nd favorite movie (Superman with Christopher Reeves is my 1st). I agree that there is 100 different ways they could've gone but, they are cashing in on a cult classic. I have no desire to see it and hope no one else does.
I have spent over 30 years building up my top 300 favorite films of all time. Not any in particular order. But after I saw this film, it’s the only one with a number. This is my number 1 favorite film of all time.
The inspiration of the story for House sounds like that story where a bride hid in a chest to scare her groom, the issue was, she was never found alive. She was eventually found, but by that time, she was a skeleton. Also, I know how it feels to be scared, well frightened by a clock. My step-grandparents had a clock, there were times where the clock would make this loud sound when it hit a certain time.
I've never heard that before. That is possible. It wouldn't surprise me if Rintaro and Katsuhiro Otomo took inspiration from Lang's film more than Tezuka judging from the film itself.
Nice to see video of the work that brought us the Gainax pose! To add to your video a couple of things. The reason I think Coach believe in Noriko was not only because she wanted to go to space real bad, but because someone like her who doesn’t know how to traditionally fight like the others would yield tactics like getting stabbed by the baddy to try it. That’s the moment you see Coach’s glint. Without spoiling Diebuster you can say both are a story where fighting with your all is the key. Also the song when Noriko and Kazumi fight together in their gunbuster for the first time, is a duet with both voice actresses, which is extra rad. Thanks for the vid!
I still have that 2002 DVD. Its a good one. I even have the Japanese Blu-ray when that first came out and even the most recent Blu-ray here in the US. Here's hoping for a good 4K release in the future.
I had to take this one down to tweak it for copyright reasons. Now I think it will stay. To watch the full version of this video go to www.youcantunwatchit.com
Absolutely hated Coppola's Dracula film. Admittedly, it's closer to Stoker than I originally thought it was, but it is so over the top, and I felt it just comes across as more of a parody than Mel Brooks' Dead and Loving It. Which I also hated. Best Dracula parody is still Love at First Bite. And this is the one time I thought Gary Oldman simply didn't convince. He looks like a clown, and he seemed to me very uncertain in the role. I don't know WHAT Coppola was thinking, but Oldman simply doesn't sell Dracula. Bela Lugosi is more iconic, and Christopher Lee is more believable, even when the movies around them aren't worthy. Not once is Oldman's Dracula truly threatening - he simply looks laughable when he tries. Especially when you compare his performance to Lugosi or Lee, who ALWAYS came across as a genuine threat. What the heck they were doing with that "old man" hairdo in the beginning, I will never know. Oldman looks better once Dracula regains his youth, but I still couldn't take him seriously. And everyone complains about Keanu's accent, but in my opinion, Winona Ryder's isn't any better - and it's even less consistent. At least Keanu is in there trying. Still, we've got a very young Monica Bellucci as one of Dracula's Brides, and this is one of the few adaptations to actually include the character of Quincey Morris. They don't give him much to do, but he's there. So, progress?
I get ya. And you are right Ryder's accent wasn't any better. I suppose a movie like this is one of those cases where you had to grow up with it to keep liking it although I don't know if that would be the case for me. Especially given that I really liked the 1989 Batman as a kid but now as an adult...not so much. Also, just because something is a pretty "faithful" adaptation doesn't mean it will be good. If that's the case then Branagh's Frankenstein should have been incredible (it wasn't).
Nice concise review/opinion piece. One of the few things that I remember from this movie is the steam castle freezing its surroundings due to the condensing steam.
Why is it that if someone uploads the entire movie, Bandai/Sunrise ignores it, but a fan making a video about the story whole featuring edited clips, it gets copyrighted.
I have no idea. I have had so many problems getting videos like this (especially Macross) uploaded. There was a time when whole episodes of Macross Frontier were on RU-vid but I had to put my videos through editing multiple times to keep them getting blocked world wide. RU-vid is broken in a ton of ways.
i really think it's kind of unfair to say one (or two) movies (Ghost in the Shell and Snow White and The Huntsman) from a director (rupert sanders, in this case) is proof that this remake is gonna be garbage. i've SEEN the original, i have the original on 4K, proof enough that i'm absolutely ENTHRALLED about this movie and Brandon's performance. and i've seen the sequels, too (Wicked Prayer is definitely the weakest link out of all them) and i think City of Angels had untapped potential thanks to the... Weinsteins (he said begrudgingly), and Salvation was decent, albeit with flaws.
Well given that neither of his early movies were very good (I did a video on Ghost in the Shell 2017 and it is up on the channel) and given just how the new Crow just looks and feels it is sadly a foregone conclusion that it will be pretty subpar. This has been a track record in Hollywood for most of what they have released especially in the past 15+ years.
yeah, but tbh, coming off of Wicked Prayer for myself? this looks LEAGUES better than Edward Furlong in sharpie eyeliner and an outfit you'd see in a Spirit Halloween store lol (and i've seen far worse films, madame web for instance, but god i can't talk about that...)
Well...I suppose anything would be better than Wicked Prayer and yes I can't imagine the new film being worse than Madame Web (not impossible but improbable). But the new film clearly has a bigger budget and more polish and it is going to held up to the 1994 classic and it will be ripped apart fairly or unfairly. I guess I just feel that the new film has no grandeur based on what I have seen. Nothing to inspire awe. It feels modern in a bad way. Too pristine whereas the original had a tactile, oppressive atmosphere. It was just a bad idea to make this movie. One of the best examples of a one-and-done story and no sequels necessary let alone remakes. If there is one area where I can give some credit. They seem to be in some ways trying to do their own thing with it (even if it doesn't look good) whereas with Ghost in the Shell 2017 it wasn't an adaptation of the manga (as stated in the credits) but rather the Mamoru Oshii films which were loosely based on the Manga with smatterings of Stand Alone Complex and the Arise OVA.
right, i see. but i feel like it is one of THOSE movies where you need to go into it with an open mind and view it as it's own thing separate from the original as most reboots are.
@@kalide1704 Problem is the gold standard for a Crow movie isn't Wicked prayer lmao. Changing the story means its a different Crow movie not Eric Dravens Crow.
At 8:00 I really liked the analysis of the family tree! Those subtle details with the tree being the center of the home, and the nice little design of a family tree indexing chart being etched onto the tree bark... suuuuuper cool details. Thanks for pointing them and the others out!
I was 13 or 14 when i saw this movie in the movie theater, thanks to my friend's mom who got all of my friend group in. This was not the first Brandon Lee movie i watched. Brandon Lee was awesome in Showdown In Little Tokyo. Also this is one of the best movie soundtracks ever. Also if ya'll had watched the movie that is Top Dollars half sister.
Thanks for reviewing this movie and plenty of mecha anime like Macross, Gundam & Patlabor. Really appreciate it. Now I'm your 40th subscriber if I'm not mistaken.
1. Apologies for the poor sound quality on my narration. I was using a bad microphone at the time. I even re-recorded huge parts of my narration when it was unusable. Since then I got a better microphone. 2. To give some clarification (for those who missed the description), I know I stated in the video that I liked Denis Villeneuve's Dune. Well...I liked the first one for a while but after the release of Part II that has changed. I am no longer a fan. I even stated that Shape of Water was good but I don't think so anymore. Love some of Guillermo del Toro's work (his output is a mixed bag) but that is not one of the good ones. And sadly I don't think his most recent Pinocchio was all that great either.
I made a mistake in this one. When I said it was Messer that got his leg broken I meant to say it was Arad. Oops! To watch the full uncut version with no watermarks go to www.youcantunwatchit.com
I need to clarify that I was being sarcastic when I said that Marcus should be allowed to create the perfect society. That I would rather see that movie. I said that because Colin's search for vengeance is so boring and lame that by comparison Marcus was the better character. Also when I state made my points from 17:16-18:11 I should have been clearer. You can keep the beginning of the movie where Colin loses his wife to Marcus and he can spend the next several hundred years looking for vengeance but use a different time and place instead of a church during WWII for Marcus to tell Colin that he's wasting his time. And to have that hammered home by Amergan. Then you can have Colin get adopted by the Macleod clan and there he starts to enjoy life with essentially an adopted family and develop himself mentally. Then Marcus would return to raise hell. This would give Colin an opportunity to get vengeance but also save his new clan as a way to make up for the clan and wife he lost. The story would end bittersweetly as he would be discovered to be immortal and thus would have to leave. I felt that would have been better. Maybe tie it in better with Highlander lore and do away with all that tired post-apocalypse crap. Keep the story in the past. That would have been a cooler setting.
I had to reupload this one two other times as I ran into problems with copyright. The uncut version contains more footage including a compare and contrast of the scores from F91 and Char's Counterattack. To watch the full uncut version go to www.youcantunwatchit.com
i definitely agree that diebuster doesnt really function amazingly as a direct sequel to gunbuster, but as it's own thing i cant help but love it. considering g gundam and macross 7 are my favorite entries in their respective series, im definitely the target audience for a show like this. maybe it's a bit shallow or childish, but theres something about the sheer absurdity of stuff like nono casually destroying planets that makes my brain go "holy shit this is awesome". i agree with your point on the characters needing to be fleshed out more, and the science talk getting obnoxious though. i definitely think this series biggest detriment comes in trying to be a sequel to a show that remained relatively grounded in nature. diebuster is definitely an acquired taste, and while i understand and respect your opinion, itll always be a series i consider to be a fun romp. i love the visuals, music, enjoy the 2 main characters, and loved the wackiness of the fights. different strokes for different folks i suppose.
Its cool if you like it. I actually kinda enjoy G Gundam and while I don't hate Macross 7 near as much as I used to I still don't like that one (although The Galaxy is Calling Me theatrical episode is pretty good). I did want to like Diebuster but I just couldn't. And yeah if it was its own thing like Gurren Lagaan and not a sequel to Gunbuster I might have been a bit more forgiving.
@@DecultureReviews Out of curiosity have you ever seen any getter robo or mazinger content? considering those 2 alongside gundam 0079 are the most influential mecha works, i feel like theyd be an interesting experience. gurren lagann especially wears its getter robo influence on its sleeve.
I haven't gotten to those yet. I have however heard that Mazinger Z while influential is an abusively repetitive TV series that you should only watch it you want to see where Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hideaki Anno took inspiration from.
@@DecultureReviews yeah the toei adaptations for both getter and mazinger greatly watered them down for younger audiences (i hate to use the term toy commercials but thats basically what they were). id reccomend reading the manga versions instead and then watching the post-toei stuff. gainax (or now gaina) is releasing an adaptation of the third mazinger installment grendizer, called grendizer u. despite the current state of the studio im hopeful considering the production staff lineup is quite stacked.
Once again...I made the same mistake I did in the Gunbuster video. I called Time Dilation "Time Distillation". What can I say? Also, watch the uncut version of this video at www.youcantunwatchit.com
This is a great video! Did they ever explain why Heath had the red markings on his head? I know Mr. Nick said it was something satanic. Maybe something Tony believed would help him survive being hanged as well?
I have to add that I know that I misspoke when it came to space travel. I accidently called Time Dilation "Time Distillation". Well mistakes happen. To watch the full version of this video go to www.youcantunwatchit.com
