Hey there, friends, True Believers and newcomers alike, and welcome to my channel! My name is Super Fly Comics Guy, and I will be your host as we dive into the wonderful world of Omnibus collected editions.
I specialize in Spider-Man, but I’m also a big fan of Batman, Daredevil, and many more! Join me as I take a look at some of these colossal comics, and discuss my thoughts, opinions, and recommendations.
My goal is to simply share my passion and experience with you all, and possibly even introduce more people to this wonderful hobby!
Unfortunately no, I picked this up a couple years ago while it was still available. I haven’t heard any news of a reprint, but the individual stories are currently available in gallery editions
I was able to pick up a new/sealed copy of an older edition of this omnibus that contains just Yellow, Blue and Gray for around $85. Was good enough for me as I don't really care all too much about the Cap story. I absolutely adore Tim Sale's artwork, so can't wait to dive into these. I like your suggestion of reading them from least to most favorite. I'll probably go from Daredevil to Hulk to Spider-Man. I hear blue is amazing. (pun intended)
Wow, I didn’t even know that older edition existed, that’s cool. They’re all great, but Spider-Man Blue was absolutely my favourite. Loved the way it fit in so well with the older comics
Everybody was hyped about the tour of the comics collection, but I couldn't wait for this Colors Omnibus video to come out. I hope it will be reprinted as soon as possible!
Excellent review! I think to answer your question about what the "white" represents for "Captain America: White," it could be innocence, since white is an archetype for the innocence that we all have, and the innocence Bucky had before he became the ruthless Winter Soldier. Hope that helps! Also, "Spider-Man: Blue" is my favorite Spider-Man story of all time. It's so, so good!
I thought I was the only one. This book was getting so much praise, but man this stuff was a snooze fest for me. The art is the best part of this book in my humble opinion. But it definitely got too repetitive and the writing is dense. Awesome review bro.
Man I’m glad I’m not alone. I was almost worried to put this review out because of how much praise this book typically gets, I even started questioning whether I’m still enjoying the hobby 😂 But nope, turns out it just wasn’t for me, so it looks like it’s time to say Bye Bye Bye to Deadpool comics 😄 Hope you’re doing well brother, thanks for swinging by!
That’s the thing about Deadpool, I enjoy the movies too and stories where he’s interacting with other big characters or involved in bigger events, but oftentimes his solo material doesn’t have the same charm. I haven’t yet found a Deadpool run that nails the level of comedy while also maintaining the tragedy and depression the way we see the movies do
I really like the character od Deadpool but for some reason only run I really enjoyed was the Duggan one🫤I wanted to try this one, but now I'm kinda in between because as you said its repetitive and im not the biggest fan of repeating the same thing in one book
Isn’t it weird how we can enjoy a character and yet a lot of their stories aren’t that special? I feel like the same is true for Iron Man - everyone loves the movie version, but his comic stories never get the same level of hype
I feel you, I’ve been in a bit of a reading lull myself recently too, but it’s important not to force it. Sometimes we just need a break so we can come back reenergized 😊 I’ll note down your request though!
Great review! I have my copy on the way, I like Wonder Woman, I think if it’s well written it’s a great character and I like Morrison so… no brained 🤪 I like a lot Greg Rucka’s Wonder Woman, can check it if you got the chance!
I’m coming late to the party but great video, glad to hear your opinions and review of the Omni! Very informative. I don’t mind 90s writing, some better, some worse, I grew up with it, but not really sure If I want to spend my $ on this one, I was always curious about the clone saga (didn’t follow much) but If only half of it is well written and fun… Anyway, great video and review, thanks for that. Just subscribed!
Never too late to join this party! 😎 Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this book unless you’re really interested/nostalgic/curious about the Clone Saga, otherwise there are way better Spidey books out there. Thanks for taking the time to watch and subscribe, welcome to the channel! 😊
@@SuperFlyComicsGuy got it!!! also can i just say this might be one of my favorite videos on the site now? i was LOCKED IN, you scratched my autism itch perfectly going through all of these books and gave me a lot of new stuff to read
Ordered it today. Really looking forward to it, espeecially since I've never heard anything bad about it. I generally like Ennis & the character of Frank Castle, so I have no doubt I will love this one! Great review btw - thank you! I enjoy having a little insight before spending 100 bucks on a book.
I think you will like it! And you’re welcome, thank you for watching! That’s what I’m here for - just to share my thoughts on these books and hopefully to help somebody along the way!
@@SuperFlyComicsGuy Will definitely come back to your place a lot! Over here in europe it's pretty tough to get your hands on english issues, so there's only online retailers, which means videos like yours are pure gold for those of us who think about buying some series but want to have a look at the books first.
would like to hear your thoughts on this spider-man omnibus eventually, alot of people say nick spencer is very meh as a writer on both spider-man and captain america, haven't picked up any of his runs because of it
That’s similar to what I’ve heard, kind of a run-of-the-mill affair. But then again there were long stretches in the Bronze Age that were kind of like that, so maybe it’ll be fine after all
I skipped the black mirror kus it's one I want to be surprised by wen I read but that spider-man looks good , I have vol.1 & want vol.2 but that price tag is making me pause till I either fined it on sale for $70 or so or after I read vol.1 & see if I like it enough to pick up vol.2
Just bought me a haul. Infinite crisis, Forth world 1-2 , Batman Morrison 1-3, final crisis. I don’t want to be confused lol. I want me a good Darkseid story
Yeahhh I’m not exactly a big channel, so I don’t expect a lot of people to know about me, I just enjoy sharing my love of comics and talking about them with people! Very happy you decided to stop by 😊
Watch the whole video all the way through. Thanks for sharing it was really helpful watching to learn how to collect certain omnibus in publication or chronological order such as Dare devil starting with the frank miller era.
yo superfly, an explosion of all of these new marvel and dc omnibuses are on PRH in the last couple days, would love to see you make a video and hear your thoughts on which ones you'll get!
Oh yeah I think I heard about that. I’m not much for covering news and leaks, but maybe in the future I’d be open to making a “most anticipated omnis” type of video 🙂
New subscriber. New to comics. Bought my first comic two weeks ago. My favorite character Hulk so I just finished Planet Hulk. Sad you don’t like hulk lol.
I just finished this 😂👍 main start dope and some side story’s dope also . But didn’t like the last couple tie ins . No hulk was in it and just a lot of talk . But still fun👍
amazing list. I have definitely added a few of them to my list. I think you should pickup Hawkeye by Matt Fraction, its a street level look at Hawkeye and is an amazing series. If you liked the disney plus show, its based on that run but the comics are way better.
I’m glad the video helped you! It’s interesting you bring up the Hawkeye book. I was considering it, but I remember people mentioning it was similar to the Disney+ show, but I didnt enjoy that show too much, so I decided to skip the book. Maybe one day I’ll change my mind 😋
Amazing collection! I would definitely recommend putting the Johns Green Lantern run higher on your list, it is absolutely fantastic. Another run I would recommend checking out is JSA by Geoff Johns, it is potentially his best run ever! (Right up there with GL)
Fantastic video. Really loved it. Best tour on RU-vid. Please consider updating this tour annually. I enjoyed how you talked about each book rather than rushing through them as most tend to do.
Best tour on RU-vid? 😳 That’s very kind of you to say, thank you sincerely. I don’t know if my collection would change enough each year to warrant an annual update, but maybe I can revisit this in a few years or whenever there are enough new additions 😋
@@SuperFlyComicsGuy no way, sir. I’m just being kind and all. Your video was perfect. I’m deciding between either Wonder Woman Earth One VS Fantastic Four Jon. Hickman Vol. 1. Have you done any videos about Jon Hickman’s Fantastic Four run?
Thank you for this video of your Marvel/DC collection. Im 51 now, but way back in early 80s I read comics everyday. Im getting back into reading comics and Im definitely a "full story" person so the Omnibus etc is for me! All the best to you , and I DID enjoy the lengthy video. I'd vote a reading of DC's Kingdom Come.
Thank you for checking out the video, I’m happy you enjoyed, and welcome back to comics! Totally agree with you, I love the convenience of reading in omnibus format. I don’t have Kingdom Come in my collection, but I know it’s a well-regarded story, so maybe one day I’ll be able to check it out 🙂
I bought plenty of these as single issues. Just like Onslaught, this got me to drop Spidey for quite awhile. I've been contemplating buying this one since I have vol. 1. But this flip through and review made me remember. It's just so convoluted and decompressed to sell more issues. And the ending is a basic " All this" for a status quo return.
I absolutely loved the Netflix series. Then, i wanted this omnibus and I’m seeing mixed reviews/reactions lol I’m now on the fence of getting it or not more so fomo if it goes OOP again it’ll be nuts to even try to get one. Idk what to do 😂 Plus, I don’t have the Marvel Knights Punisher (which is more 616 and said to be before this) or Volume 2
Ah the eternal struggle. At the very least I can tell you that you don’t need the Marvel Knights Punisher at all in order to understand this - it’s perfectly fine on its own
