Large rubber floor mats Are a lot heavier quite a few kilos. It all adds up just not needed that’s all but you can use that if you like, I like to travel light as possible.
Why repair them? Waste of time. Buy a cheaper knock off pair that work just as good in my experience. I have a pr each & and knock offs work just as good and no wear compared to my maxtrax. A third of the price. I know people believe that if u pay more money for anything, it will perform better. This is not always true. Should not need to spin wheels on these mud extractors: defeats the purpose.
Repair them because it looks cool And then they will be tougher than anything else on the market being alloy instead of plastic next time, someone spins the wheels it won’t be a problem
I purchased a Ford Ranger in 2018 and had Bob Jane swap the standard tyres out (plus extra $) for a set of KO2's from USA. I achieved about 58,000 kms during this time which included a 38,000 trip around Australia over 15 months with a 3 ton off-road caravan. Mileage included long hauls on highways at 85-95 KPH as well as many off-road side excursions. I sold them with about 45-50% tread left as we were hoping to head north via Doomadgee for another trek just as Covid hit. The replacement KO2s were built in Thailand and were deemed useless after about 32,000kms which did include a few shorter 2 month treks in the van. I had a new set of Falken Wildpeaks fitted to the Ranger late last year and so far they have been pretty good and very quiet along with giving me much better fuel economy. I am now looking to replace some General Grabber ATs which were fitted to the van in 2018 and have been excellent so far despite a slight alignment issue on 1 tyre. I would go with them again but am looking at a few other brands instead as the Generals seem hard to find in Qld and may no longer be available in 245/75/16 sizes. Options include Kumho, Toyo, Pirelli, Hankook, Yokohama, Falken, . Price and longevity are all important issues during these tough times so I won't be getting BFGs again since they are no longer made in USA. Stay clear of the Thai Tyres!
Hey, thanks Anthony, for the video. I like the way you think about space and weights. As I watched, I wondered if you could turn the shelf upside down? So the frame is now under the shelf sheeting metal? I have not seen how it is mounted on each side to the Prado.
2nd the Bushranger sand flags advice. Pretty bullet proof. Mine survived the Simpson crossing without breaking a sweat. Have done a couple of other trips without a problem. Not cheap though. Think it was almost $200.
Good info. The best pie I've ever had, after many days in the desert eating flies and dirt, was at the Farina Bakery. I'm not sure how they actually rate compared to the ones you've mentioned, but at the time, they were life saving. Cheers.
I left Birdsville on 17 May and the Birdsville Track was still closed. When was this video filmed, before or after the big 200mm of rain? Ah I kept watching and you did it in April. That was before the rain. We went down rhg Strzelecki as it was open but it was in very bad shape for about 70km where the band of rain went through. Camerons corner to Mert Merty was also badly damaged and we leant the lesson early that we had to crest every dune at 10kph just to make sure there was still a road left on the other side.
Watched a few of your vids now good vids. Just bought a bone stock 120 too as the 4.5 105 drinks way too much in sand. So subbed. I saw in one of your vids that I should text you when I am ready for suspension. Is that still the best way? Keepup the nice vids.
Another great video, how about a guide on what the routine is for personal hygiene on the longer trips just thinking of the difference when water is rationed, what's in your wash kit. In Scotland we have too much of the stuff so easy to have a good splash 😅
Had my MT45F Engel for over 15yrs, only ever blown one fuse… still working in my current Colorado… last week I purchased a new 60L Engel for our caravan… couldn’t bring myself to buy a cheaper brand after such good use from the one we still have. 🇦🇺
G day from Broken Hill, interesting run guys. Fairly green due to recent rain. Yep safety in numbers. Our town already had its annual rainfall, as at first week of April.
I used fly light aircraft and worked for 9 years as Director of Safety Promotion in the then CAA. On a trip with me in co-pilot seat in a department B36 my boss said what are you doing. Navigating I said with a map on my lap and a calculator in my hand. He said the department wouldn't have given all of these instruments if they wanted you to look outside. Still do it when I travel this country - use paper maps.
Thanks for sharing. I was there last June with a group. Only 2 cars got over that rock ledge 1 with 37's another with 35's. The rest had to winch. I run Maxxis tyres no drama.
