I used fly light aircraft and worked for 9 years as Director of Safety Promotion in the then CAA. On a trip with me in co-pilot seat in a department B36 my boss said what are you doing. Navigating I said with a map on my lap and a calculator in my hand. He said the department wouldn't have given all of these instruments if they wanted you to look outside. Still do it when I travel this country - use paper maps.
