I listened to this program every single night and had listened to it when it started in the 50s the talent is unreal and the music is fantastic. Love it with all my heart. July 2024.
I believe the tune that Neil and Myron play is “Dancing the Devil Away.” Thanks for posting these. My great grandmother graduated from Webster High School in South Dakota alongside Myron!
I worked on that show when I was 19 tears old. One of the most memorable times in my life. I did a little bit of everything, even holding que cards for Mr Lawrence. I am 71 now and was surprised when I came across this RU-vid video. Thank you RU-vid.
Lordy, I remember my parents filling up the Studebaker Lark VIII with Dino during annual trips to visit my grandparents in Miami! And, listen to Norma’s gliss in the ending of “Summertime”…it puts the opening clarinet glissando in “Rhapsody in Blue” to shame…what a voice!
Yes, I'm going to comment again, because this reunion was so special. For many of these beloved performers, this might have been their last performance. I just appreciate being able to watch this in its entirety again. Brings back many happy memories of watching this show with my dad. Hard (really hard) to believe how many have been lost even since this show. This was so wonderful!
What a fun episode! First time seeing this one...loved every second of it! And it's such good quality! Thank you for helping us continue to enjoy the Champagne Music Makers! And love seeing the old commercials!
Omg, thank you for sharing this. I think I might have this on a VHS tape somewhere, but I have no way to play it. This really brings me back! I discovered The Welk Show as an adult & enjoyed watching it with Dad. Some of these numbers just bring me to tears.
Thanks so much for posting this episode. I really enjoy seeing the black and white ones. I liked watching the commercials. The highlight for me Buddy Merrill playing Song of the Islands. Neil Levang was also excellent; too bad he didn't get a spotlight. The camerawork close-up of Buddy's hands was super. I also enjoyed the band playing Acapulco, especially Alladin on the Maracas.
You always come shining through with these classic, wonderful black and white Welk shows!!! I was a young ten year old in 1964 and full of energy , but still, we would settle down on Saturday night to watch another great Lawrence Welk Show!!! Thank you so much for making my Saturday that much better!!!🎼🎶🪗🎙🎹🎺🎻🎉🎉🎉🤩
This 1980 Easter show marked Larry Hooper's last appearance on the Lawrence Welk Show. His only role in this show was part of the ensemble at the end. The one close-up reveals he is not in good health. He died 3 years later of heart and kidney disease.
A must see is- *Harry Warren: America's Foremost Composer (1933) - RU-vid* , a real life tribute to Harry Warren, with Harry playing piano and...oh' just watch it ( and yes that's Olive Oil's voice...well one who did it anyway). Folks don't know what they are missing if they haven't seen a Busby Berkeley directed 1930's-40's musical film, especially with Harry Warren's music.
This was my Saturday afternoon lineup when I was a kid in the 70s. Started off with Rat Patrol, then Victory at Sea. After that was Star Trek, MASH, Wild Wild West, Hee Haw, Sha Na Na, and Lawrence Welk. The lineup ended with Happy Days and Lavern & Shirly. Or Barney Miller, depending. Now, I am not a professional critic, but that is one STELLAR lineup. Oh, it varied depending on the season and what holidays were going on, but that's pretty typical. My dad was the Lawrence Welk fan. Our TV antenna was on this tower bolted to the house. To get the best picture, he sent me up to the roof with a pair of Channel Locks. My brother would stand at the window to relay the orders. I would turn the pole slowly and my brother would yell "STOP! Back up a little...RIGHT THERE! No...back more...THERE! Tighten the clamp!" while my dad watched the picture. lol Sitting in the living room eating off TV trays and I was also the remote control. We had channel 6 (NBC) 8 (CBS) and 13 (ABC) and if the weather was good, we could get 4 (PBS) out of Ft. Wayne. That was a rare treat. Don't get me started on the awesome Saturday morning cartoons and shows...!
How were you able to acquire these videos? My father was on this show when he was 8 years old. He recently passed away and I would love to get my hands on the video. Lawrence Welk's Top Tunes and New Talent October 7th 1957 [Season 2 Premiere]
Lawrence Welk had such bad taste. So much talent wasted on subpar arrangements. The show could have been awesome under the right direction. They dumbed it down way too much.
I was only four months old when this originally aired, but I grew up watichin Lawrence Welk eveny Saturday night. I still watch the rebroadcasts on our local PBS station and continue to enjoy the shows. They bring me right back to a simpler, kinder time when TV shows were more wholesome. Thanks for sharing these broadcasts!
