I was a bit disapointed by this video. The "Kings Dominion Law" really isn't a thing anymore. Each locality can set their school year now (as I understand it) as fits their needs. The weirdest thing, totally missed, about Virginia is that the cities are totally independent of the county - the only state in the US to do this. Independent cities are treated as county equivalents. That means Richmond being 200k makes it sound so much smaller since the metro area is well over 1 million people. The area is split significantly geographically by the James River, so there are counties that have significant populations like Chesterfield, Henrico, and Hanover counties, in addition to nearby independent cities of Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights.

That’s actually how I found this video lol. • I also had no idea KDKA was the first radio station in the world it’s our biggest news station now . Some of us who worked there for years and were in supervisory or management positions, still struggle to this day. It was all I knew. I learned everything at Opryland from customer service excellence to marketing and event skills. When it closed I and many others were forced to move to other states and cities with theme parks just to have a job in which we excelled. It not only left us jobless, but it also made us leave an area that we loved. one of the most painful things is the malls footprint. The mall actually fits in the former parking lot of the park. The park itself? Became a parking lot for the mall that closed it. A parking lot.

The video is meant to make people aware of the road. And it's certainly done that! So many people drive by it and never know it's there. I think it can be a little spooky. But it's not spooky enough to keep me from enjoying it. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Yes. Of course we paid attention to that sign particularly because our name is Parsons. My husband and I did not go down that road because we were with other people but my daughter has been down it and says there might be a spooky spot but overall it is a beautiful drive.
Used to live in West Knox & visited Cades Cove many times & explored remote places like Mouse Creek Falls & Cataloochee. But never gave this road a second look or heard talk about it. Perhaps I was put off by claims it was 4 wheel drive. Out west & up north where I've since explored many a dirt road, they'd call that passenger car accessible. I'll check it out for sure if I ever visit again.
This is getting me upset! I still miss it. We went for vacations and then hit downtown and the opry.. old people loved the show. We rode the rides ... they messed up. Now Dollywood gets business
The last time we went, we did a scare on the flying airplanes.. my grandaddy and aunt.. clueless.. My cousin and I in college.. Scared to death... More me. When we got off , they asked us over and over if we were alright.. Other than that, the best
We loved visiting Opryland with our extended family too. In fact, when I think of Opryland, I think of my Grandparents. They're both gone now, and I miss them very much.
Well, not in a scary way, more like a campfire kind of way. But the real purpose of the video is to make people aware that the road is there. The heart of the video comes from a good place. Cades Cove is amazing, and some people might visit just to drive Parson Branch. And that was the idea. Thank you for watching and thanks for commenting!
I'm a year younger than you and have lived here my whole life. Your video has been very informative. Looking back on it, I feel like Nashville felt like "Nashville" because of the links you described between the businesses owned by WSM and/or Gaylord. It was like they owned the city and treated it like an extension of their company. They wanted the city to prosper because it made them prosper. I've always felt like things aren't the same but could never put my finger on it and just chalked it up to progress/me getting old and crotchety. I also think there's a lot of truth to a silly shirt I used to see that said "Welcome to Nashville, y'all go on home now, ya hear". Once folks stopped visiting and started staying, it started taking away from what made our place special.
Thanks for commenting! I think many people living in cities all over the US feel that way to some extent, but Nashville is different for more reasons than I addressed in the video. Some of it has to do with Nashville's history, and geography. In hindsight, WSM couldn't have been located in a more perfect location. WSM put Nashville on the map. But over time, Nashville's 3 interstates and international airport have made it accessible to a huge portion of the US. And it also benefits from what may eventually be called America's 3rd migration. What Tennesseans like us have always known is that Nashville is a great city, and now, the word is out. Everyone wants to live there. And to be honest, I get it. We're running out of room here in Chattanooga, and I can't keep up with how fast East Tennessee is growing. I was born and raised in Tennessee. I am now 68 and a few years ago moved to another state to be with my kids. I have been on Parsons Branch road so many times with my family during camping trips to Cades Cove. It is beautiful and quiet! I miss Tennessee so much! Thank you for posting this video and letting me have a short visit home!

In the mid 1980s while driving on Parsons branch Road on my way home to Bryson City after digging sang in Cades Cove, my car broke down. I got out of my car and walked about a mile before I was picked up by a car with George license plates. After asking me if I wanted a ride, the man who was driving, looked straight ahead for the several mile drive out of the park. During the drive, he told me about time spent in prison as a young man, and how he had robbed three banks in Alabama and the 1970s, and those robberies were unsolved . He said he had been on the run ever since. Then, after about five minutes of silence, He asked me if I ever looked at the most wanted pictures at the post office, which I answered, yes. To that he replied, “Have you ever seen this face”? Then, turning to look straight at me, his face look like the cross between Ethel Merman and a mule. I screamed and opened the door and started running. I will never drive on Parsons Branch Road again. It’s just too spooky. .
Great video and information! I think id be a little creeped out with that much isolation, particularly if my car broke down. . Yet its beautiful back in there.
I drove down Parsons Road a year ago when I was there but when I got to the end of the road where a 4x4 was required, it was closed. It was during Thanksgiving week.
Parson's Branch Road is not spooky! It's your perception and imagination that makes it appear so! Parson's Branch is a rough road, for sure, but it also gives you an idea of how the Smokies were long before they were made into a National Park! I have travelled this road all alone on a rainy late spring day, looking for wildflowers, and I lived to tell the tale!

In the 70s we drove it a Triumph Spitfire. Top up, wimdows,down. A Spitfire is so low to the ground my husband could touch the ground out his window. Anyway I our small dog on my lap. All of a sudden a big black head sticks in my,window. I thinking Bear!! It was a big black dog. My dog goes ballistic, I’m screaming, trying to roll the window up. The dog runs around the front of the car and sticks his head in my husbands window. We were in first gear and could not go fast enough to get away from the dog. He ran circles around us for 1/2 a mile until we could go faster. The owner, who must have been walking the dog off leash was running,do.the road after us.
That's hysterical, and needs to be in a movie! I would have thought bear too, and who knows what I would have done. Too funny! Thank you so much for sharing that!
Very informative and helpful, thanks a lot for this great video. We're currently planning our yearly vacation to the US and this time Blue Ridge Parkway is on our list too. We'll do the full length from top to bottom, just taking in the views, maybe some short hikes in between. So we will basically let the area surprise us, as we usually do. But tips like the different access roads and the apps are awesome since it makes life a lot easier, even if we're super flexible. So thanks again, I'm sure we'll watch some more of your videos to be prepared.

I became fascinated by the Appalachians after watching several videos about Cades Cove. (Never been there but it is #1 on my bucket list). There is something about that area that whispers to you "there is much more around you than what meets the eye......come and see...." I have also heard of feral families who live in the mountains and shy away from any outsiders who would seek them out. There are documented reports regarding these mysterious, reclusive families, so it isn't just a spooky campfire story. Perhaps that is where the feelings of being watched originates. Just a thought......thank you for this video - I enjoyed it immensely 💖.
I took my mom and nieces on that road- my mom gave me the evil mom look the whole way!!!! It was just after a rain storm and we were scared. The road was closed right after that. I think part of it washed away or something. I did not know about tail of the dragon at that time ( 20+ years ago) My brother loved motorcycles' and saw the tail of the dragon. When I told him I took his daughter on this road- we was a bit peeved. lol I'm going back in Oct for a vacation and might have to do this road again.
