Always plowing through obsolete and forgotten media to preserve what might otherwise be lost to time! Also whatever the hell I feel like posting, like showing my equipment and what-not.
I have just added a Donate button- you aren't obligated to donate but I would greatly appreciate it as I am just one person doing everything here. I have spent obscene amounts of money on some of my equipment and getting it serviced just so I can bring you the highest-quality transfers, I spend a lot of money on some of the media I acquire also. I certainly deserve donations more than many of the higher-profile RU-vidrs who ask for donations- many of them have the balls to ask for money and then ruin their videos with onscreen logos! I never do that, and I always upscale everything to the proper frame rate which only a few other users do.
But more than money, I am always looking for more off-air TV recordings from 1984 or earlier on VHS or Beta to feature here, and I can provide quality DVD copies!
Just here in 2024 reflecting back on the good ole days. Wanted one of these as a present so badly, as a kid, but never got one. That's ok. The commercial was catchy as all heck anyways. Lol
Me: 'So, this cashiering job pays minimum; well, okay then I will definitely offer Quality and Cleanliness.' Manager: 'But, what about Service‽' Also me: 'We'll talk about that whenever it's time for my first raise.' Him:
Did Jack-in-the-Box employees really dress up for work like a Wall Street banker, or they're going to a wedding? (0:30) The deadly dangers near the end were really scary. When I was 18, I applied to work at Jack-in-the-Box. They didn't hire me. I guess I didn't meet their high standards. That's OK. I then applied at Taco Bell. They hired me. No deadly danger videos there. Much safer.
I own the Pioneer laserdisc / dvd combo unit bought it at a yard sale. Would be cool to find an early unit like this. I found the style they used in the schools that was massive and heavy. Would be really cool to hit a goodwill or sale that someone has a library of japenese import horror movies.... usualy when i find movies they are dull 80s 90s pop culture stuff. Avoid the Sony units though they always have issues. I don't think Olivia Newton John really benefited from LD tech. The only movie they showed that would be better on LD was Alien.
This is so cool.... I just turned a year old 2 days prior to this.... its awesome seeing what HBO was like back then! Its the 1983 feature presentation opening I definitely remember the most from my childhood but seeing this is even before then is just great!
I never saw this one before because I was four years old on New Year's Eve. In any event, do you think you can post the happy new year America from 1986 ringing in 1987? That is the only one that I can remember. Thanks for posting this.
Gosh, I feel like this was so common in the 70s and early 80s. Every film was so scratchy and dusty even “brand new”. That and they just didn’t take care of prints. A good example is any print that got round the hands of Viacom…the closer logos are always all scratched up and nasty looking
I had NO idea they ever made commercials for lava lamps/let along commercials for products by Lava. That’s insane. Also, I recognize that ominous jingle in the beginning logo, but I can’t place where it’s from… I think it was from another demo reel of some kind out there. Likely Scanimate related.
These appear to all be for Renown, some kinda weird potentially “high fashion” brand in Japan that was popular ‘round the Showa era. I know nothing more sadly.
You know, it’s funny. I remember seeing so much about people talking about Scanimate graphics being commonplace in 70’s TV, yet I’ve seen so many 70s recordings of commercials and broadcasts yet it’s either fully live footage with no effects or just a film reel with no computer effects at on it either. Maybe that stuff just sticks with people more?
