Too bad they stooped to VHS simulation instead of recording on tape and then digitizing it, they would not even need a second camera. Still, a nice artifact! I thought that in 1997 DVDs have already become commonplace. Then ten years later the same pitch happened again with Blu-Ray.
They probably did record it onto VHS and digitize it even though they're using the word simulation. Simulating VHS back in the day in editing wasn't as straightforward as actually dubbing the source from the source format (for instance Digital Betacam or D1) onto VHS and back. 🙂 Speaking of Blu-ray Disc, I was quite annoyed at the time that when demoed in stores, often the TVs would be in factory mode making the picture look horrible and selling short the difference between it and DVD Video.
