Hello. Thank you for sharing your techniques! I just found your channel the other day and love your vids I have seen so far so I subscribed. :) May I please have the link to the sketches of the butterfly wings? I could not find it in the description box. Thanks again!
This is simply terrific Louise - wonderful conversational with your viewers - my goodness, I am so grateful for listening to about 6 or 7 of your videos today - fellow artist - thank you so much!
You are so welcome! thank you so much for the lovely comments. I haven't had the chance to do any recently, but I hope to get another video uploaded soon. Many thanks for watching, and all the very best, Louise X😀
Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your process. I've only just subscribed and quickly scanned your videos, but I am so impressed with your talent and journey so far. I feel like I've found a treasure in discovering your channel.
Hi, thanks for your interest. This is an organic product and will go off. I have found that it lasts a good while, a couple of weeks, but appears to go thinner as it ages. I think it may be possible to freeze it and will give that a trial. 😀
I use wax. I either grate from a wax block or use pellets and an iron to melt onto paper. It makes lovely translucent, velum like paper. I don't know about the painting on after, as I use this technique on (individual, finished) pieces that are used to create my collages. But I am going to experiment a bit and let you know.
Great tip! Very helpful. And the results must be lovely and have a great feel to them. I have also tried the acrylic gloss medium. This makes the tissue paper translucent, but I find it always has a slightly sticky surface, so it doesn't work so well in journals or art books. Thanks for watching and all the best, Louise😀
Thanks for mentioning the collection of STUFF! OMG! In the few weeks I've begun doing mixed media collage with momigami I've begun to collect materials, tools, and ideas. I find stuff and buy stuff. So far, I've got a little area to store it all in, but this can truly get out of hand! I have a friend who told me that she has a whole lot o' stuff in boxes, bags, crates, suitcases, etc in the basement work area. Kinda scary!
Ha ha, so true. X But I say if you have the space, go for it. One day I will work through all the bits I have a make the most of them all, although I think that would take more than one day XX Enjoy creating and many thanks for watching. Keep well, and all the best, Louise😀
Omg im soooo happy u came up on my thread today! Wud u believe i started doing this immediately lol!! Sadly i ran out of twine but used cotton threads and they are all hanging up to dry and this my my 3rd video of yours im bingewatching !! Thank u! New sibscriber and new artist!!!❤
Interesting video. Am I right in thinking that wheat paste is a good choice for holey paper or thready paper etc, so as to get a colour absorbant surface that isn't stiff or brittle? I'm finding cellulose paste darned hard to get hold of, (unless I could substitute wallpaper paste???) however I've managed to get some methyl cellulose, although not cheap. I'd like to try the wheat paste unless it produces a brittle result. So I'll hope to hear from you.
Hi again Fran. Wheat paste is also a good glue for this process when you want the papers to remain absorbent and to take pigment well. The plastic-based glues that are not soluble once dry will, of course, take acrylics well, but it is painting onto a sealed surface, and so doesn't respond to the papers and threads, the materials themselves so well.😀
And hi again - I am sorry if I didn't clarify that by cellulose glue, I mean Methyl Cellulose glue. I purchased it from a bookbinder supplier in Britain. I think craft suppliers also sell it. Wallpaper paste is also suitable for this process, and I am sure its archival properties are suitable. Still, it is not made for artwork, so there is very little written about the chemicals added, and I couldn't be sure of wallpaper paste's archival qualities. But for work that is more experimental and trying out a process its an excellent alternative.😀 I hope all this helps. Many thanks for watching my channel, and best of luck with all your creative endeavours. All the very best Louise
Oh that's great. I already have some dry powder wallpaper paste, hanging around doing nothing, a nice cheap source! I.e. already bought, so almost free! I was also wondering about 'Nori paste' - isn't 'Nori' seaweed? Would that work? It kept coming up in my searches. Thank-you so much for your replies.
Making card look and feel like leather is a Must watch first. The plastic is used to stiffen, only. Very good idea and it is repurposing something which would have gone to landfill. I would have liked the link to the other videos to show up at the start so I could watch in the right order. This is a really lovely item. I love paper and books, etc - if I make one of these will I be able to write in the book!! Gorgeous, thank you.
Thanks for the feedback; much appreciated; I will make sure that I put the previous episodes up in any following episode in a series. Glad you like the idea, and I hope it inspires other projects. Many thanks for watching, and all the very best, Louise X😀
No. I use this because because it remains resolvable. It can be used with watercolour and acrylic and the natural bibres of the mediums used will absorb pigment depending on their textures and absorbancy, This can produce some beautiful reults.😀
Cellular paste? I am from the the US, and i am not familar with that glue? Is it a plastic based glue? Or book binders paste? I searched for the term but I am only getting pvc cement....for pvc pipes. Could you give more discription ? Thank you.
The glue is methylcellulose. It is a starch-based glue that is very similar to wallpaper paste. Bookbinders do supply this as a powder or sometimes a s a mixed glue.😀Good luck with sourcing this X
Hi again. Yes, traditionally, they oil it, and wax it. Felted or momigamied mulberry paper is used for clothing, interior walls, parasols, lampshades, etc. It is a great product and is strengthened by the kneaded or folding process. Enjoy X😀
@@LouiseJannetta Great ! I'll try that ! I also found some beeswax in my kitchen. It's in small dots. I'll melt it in a bain-marie and try that. The smell should be lovely... I finally managed to cut out my mockup for a bear to be pu on a canvas that was waiting a few years and wil use your string technique to give it a unique look... Thank you so much for your tips ! ;-)
@@studioplanetesilhouette@studioplanetesilhouette The beeswax plan is an excellent plan; good tip for us all. 😀X. The planned bear on canvas sounds lovely, too; good luck with it all. Glad the videos are inspiring you, all the very best, Lou X I do have a facebook page where we can share our work but I get so busy that |I have neglected it. The link is facebook.com/groups/louisejannettacreateart. We may get it busy enough to get feedback from each other, but I can guarantee that I can always comment, very sorry.
I do similar things to this, I collected some wine corks then sliced them up and stuck them to card they make good irregular marks within the circles, I think as artists we have to use what we have! Also if you use something softer beneath your paper when trying out your tools like a foam pad or gel plate it will help with the impressions of the tools :)
Thank you so much! Thank you for watching. I've been really busy recently, but I will get back to uploading more soon. Many thanks and all the best, Louise X😀
You are inspiring and i love your mess. I use popsicle sticks to mix my medium, water and paint. I can reuse them over and over. They never tip over my container and i can use them for dripping and lines
Great idea! Thank you for sharing. I love repurposing items for a very practical solution.😀 Thanks for the watching, and so glad that you like it all. Many thanks and all the very best, Louise X😀
Hi. It is methyl cellulose which is basically wall paper paste.. I use the methyl cellulose because it doesn't have all the chemicals in it that are in the wall paper paste. There is a video on my channel showing how to prepare the paste. All the best ,Louise
Wow, Aine, I hope I have your name right; this is very kind of you. Many thanks for your support, so glad you got something from the video and many thanks for watching. All the very best, Louise X😀
Hi yes I think this technique would be perfect for lampshades. I'll do a video demo on that subject soon. Many thanks for watching. All the very best, Louise
Hi Susan, It is acid-free, 24 gsm unbleached or bleached white tissue paper. I get it from Jackson's Art Supplies in the UK. I hope this helps. All the best, Louise 😀
Great, glad you like it. Yes, a lampshade would really work. I am going to get a video done demoing making lampshades. X. Many thanks for watching. All the best, Louise.😀
Hi Lynne Sorry for the confusion. I think you are referring to the statement that PVA glues give off a gas that can rot papers. This is only applicable if the gas is enclosed in say a a closed book, or a book in a box or in a frame. Generally, using a piece from which the gas can escape will not damage the papers to the same extent. This is why bookbinding PVA is so expensive; this property has been removed from the glue. I use acrylic binders as they are excellent glues and have been made to use with archival properties in mind. 😀I hope all this helps. Please feel free to ask more questions if this is unclear. All the very best, Louise
Hi there the leather cover isn't that durable. It lasts a while but is no real replacement for leather. I have had mine a couple of years and the glue is going as much as the leather like card. The shoe polish dries and doesn't come off on other things.
Sehr, sehr schön!Es wäre schön,wenn es auf deutsch übersetzt wäre.Und uns zeigen würden, wie all das weiter verarbeitet wird.Ich verstehe leider kein Englisch.
