Its a bit wondrous and mesmerizing to listen to your inner monologue as you create these, and reflect on them later. A lot of lessons learned from this session. This kind of feels like a gift of inspiration and the shock of confessed secrets. Thank you.

The last one I see a beach with sea weed lodged against a big drift wood. The one that resolved itself is from the left nature free form being encroached by city construction. The one you left alone is light and soulful. There is one that to me looks like a rugged mountain with tiny pockets of structure, possibly monks living in the mountains of Tibet. All are very interesting. Thank you.

It’s actually amazing how the frame enables you to see how amazing the composition is in places, and needs nothing else. It helps focus.

The underpainting was stunning. I would have been very tempted to divide it into the six squares and called them done. It was sad for me to see the energy and spontaneity of the marks get lost in most of the final versions. I, too, am an artist who loves mixed media collage and find i overwork much too often. That's a temptation when you have so many luscious materials at hand. Working series is one of my favorite methods. I often hang them in a group when they are finished. Presentation is another challenge. I have stopped putting my work, even watercolors under glass with a mat and frame. I create my work on 300lb watercolor paper to which i often give a deckled type edge. After all the collage layers and protective finish layers it is quite sturdy. The work is then adhered to a light-weight slightly smaller plywood base with very strong archival adhesive. I like to make the work float in front of the wall by attaching a wooden stretcher-like frame to the backside. Works very well and the cost is very reasonable...no glass and i can do this presentation on my own. If i wanted to i could use a frame designed for work on canvas with just a few changes in the process...anything to avoid using glass. Thank you for your videos. I am so inspired!

I agree that quick, gestural mark-making often has a presence and power that doesn't need anything else. However, it requires confidence to realise that those first marks are enough. X. Thank you very much for all the presentation tips. I have also been looking at ways to present works on paper without the glass on top. There are so many excellent finishes that can protect the paperwork now.😀😀

It really helps to isolate sections with the mat board, doesn’t it? Lovely outcomes, Janetta. I love the scratched mark makings. Thanks for the tips on using the white jesso, then applying thin color on top and rubbing off to get different values. Very helpful. Don’t you just hate it when one or more takes so much effort and time to resolve? Seems there are always troublemakers.

I love doing this kind of artwork! I find that if something is too stark in my abstract minis by adding a piece of plain tissue paper over it, it blends into the background beautifully. I also like to use Gesso, as I like the contrast, but have found recently by adding in the colour of Titanium Buff, it tones things down. these came out really well and I like your approach. Thankyou for sharing.
