Hi! I’m in the exact same situation. I have a 2-year green card. It expires next year in May. What’s the deadline to enlist? My Army recruiter told me November 2022 but my friend in the Army told me recruiters lie sometimes…
@beyondflyyy9935
@beyondflyyy9935 2 года назад
From my understanding, there is no deadline to enlist. However, since you have a green card it may take time only because of the security check they have to do of you. That’s the only thing that kept me from going basic training as soon as everyone else. The time it takes for an official to do a full security check on you depends on the individual. It’s not exactly the same for everyone. For me it took about 4 months, but there are other people that had a shorter or longer experience. This is where they call you contacts and ask them questions to verify your identity. Hope this helps.

@@beyondflyyy9935 Mèsi anpil. The recruiter said I have to ship out to boot camp 6 months before my green card expires, otherwise it’ll be too late. I’m soo stressed because of that. He said they won’t accept a notice receipt from USCIS while Even if I apply to renew it to get the 10 year GC.
@beyondflyyy9935
@beyondflyyy9935 2 года назад
@@junkremovaldemolition4less166 I understand why he wants you to go before it expires BUT the part where he said they won’t allow you to go with a USCIS letter is NOT true. Per regulation (military law) all you are required to have is your expiring green card and the letter from USCIS stating that you are soon to receive your new green card; this letter is valid for 2 years with your old green card. This is due to the fact that you already have a 10year green card, you’re just renewing it. Have him read AR 601-280 (3-8) subsection 2

4:03 Native English speaker who took French in high school and college. In an area with a lot of Haitian immigrants and have been able to converse with them. Until I got to this part of your video, I assumed it was because the two languages were not that different. However, if they had to take French in school, that would explain it.
@2offspringnhappy
@2offspringnhappy 2 года назад
Great video and I admire the work it took to compile it. However, with all due respect, Spanish would be considered a colonizing language. Most of Latin America speaks it and teaches it to their children, as you say in the video. That would be like saying that each country should only speak its own local dialects and languages. If that were the case, most of Latin America would not be able to communicate with each other for trade or interpersonal relationships. Although the history of why we speak Spanish is admittedly a sad one, the truth is that without it there would be very little to no communication with other countries. Insisting on no French in the school systems or that French be only for the "elite" is quite isolationist. For the country to continue to progress and grow in a global economy diversification, education (including English and French), and embracing the local language need to go hand in hand; just my two cents.
@beyondflyyy9935
@beyondflyyy9935 Год назад
Thank you for your insight. I understand where you are coming from. However I believe you are confused what I was saying. I did not say for us not to use French at all. I also did NOT say that French should only be for the elite. I stated that French should not be the primary language since the majority of Haitians know Creole. French can still be used, however the languages across the Caribbean are pâtwa, Creole, and Spanish. I can go to Saint Lucia speaking Creole and they will understand me, same in Martinique, etc. Lastly, I was repetitive in saying that the elite are using the French language as a weapon to misinform or “under-inform” the vast majority of citizens in Haiti. I currently live in Italy. Most Italians I have met speak multiple languages, however their primary language in schools, their government, and business is still Italian - NOT English nor French. This is because the majors of their people speak Italian first before any other language. Why can’t Haiti be the same way.

So is the preference for Haitian Creole just out of spite for the French slave owners? Doesn't seem too pragmatic. I respectfully think that perhaps Haitians should consider maintaining their proficiency of French; if not for communicating with the French, then for communicating with their Francophone brothers from Canada and West Africa.

Dako! Theres a haitian proverb "Pale fransè pa di lespri pou sa" I do believe kreyòl should be the only national language of Ayiti. I'm not sure that French should even be one of our official languages. It doesn't display independence, strength, or freedom if we keep holding on to our colonizers way of life. Some of our people moved away from what true independence is. Thats why Dessalines laid down our foundation so that we would remain independent and to never again become slaves . Good video 👍

Its mainly a usa issue. Of course theres problems all over but i find that for some reason in america the government and narrative people create, makes more of a problem. Instead of growing and people coming togehter, americans make this harder by insisting certain problems are still here, even though most of it is a fairy tale. Its important for all people to research their history, most dont and just let someone else tell them what to believe. Forgiving and forgetting doesnt mean you have to pretend and not look into who you are, thats a lie and if anyone tells you to do that, well ignore them

This is very helpful. I used to live in an area with a lot of people who spoke cape verdean creole (kriolu) and many portuguese and spanish speakers and since I speak both spanish and portuguese I was able to help translate at my work, I even can pick up some of the portuguese kriolu even though most of them seem to speak portuguese. I think in the medical field it makes people feel more comfortable knowing at least you’re trying to communicate with them the in their native language especially if you’re trying to build a relationship with them and help take care of them. It must be tough to not be able to express yourself when you are in pain or something is wrong.. and I recently moved to a place where there are many haitian creole speakers and I ignorantly thought they might understand french bc the cape verdeans I knew all spoke and understood portuguese very well.. they can even imitate a perfect brazilian accent 😱 & so now I am trying to learn more about the culture and at least understand a little bit. It must be awful to come to a place for treatment and not one person can even say “Good Morning, how are you, do you need help?” in a language you can understand 💔 This video was very helpful ❤️ thank you!! 🙏🏼 May you all forever hold the pride of your countries and languages and roots ❤️ 🇭🇹 🇨🇻 🇧🇷 🇵🇷
