Its mainly a usa issue. Of course theres problems all over but i find that for some reason in america the government and narrative people create, makes more of a problem. Instead of growing and people coming togehter, americans make this harder by insisting certain problems are still here, even though most of it is a fairy tale. Its important for all people to research their history, most dont and just let someone else tell them what to believe. Forgiving and forgetting doesnt mean you have to pretend and not look into who you are, thats a lie and if anyone tells you to do that, well ignore them

This is very helpful. I used to live in an area with a lot of people who spoke cape verdean creole (kriolu) and many portuguese and spanish speakers and since I speak both spanish and portuguese I was able to help translate at my work, I even can pick up some of the portuguese kriolu even though most of them seem to speak portuguese. I think in the medical field it makes people feel more comfortable knowing at least you’re trying to communicate with them the in their native language especially if you’re trying to build a relationship with them and help take care of them. It must be tough to not be able to express yourself when you are in pain or something is wrong.. and I recently moved to a place where there are many haitian creole speakers and I ignorantly thought they might understand french bc the cape verdeans I knew all spoke and understood portuguese very well.. they can even imitate a perfect brazilian accent 😱 & so now I am trying to learn more about the culture and at least understand a little bit. It must be awful to come to a place for treatment and not one person can even say “Good Morning, how are you, do you need help?” in a language you can understand 💔 This video was very helpful ❤️ thank you!! 🙏🏼 May you all forever hold the pride of your countries and languages and roots ❤️ 🇭🇹 🇨🇻 🇧🇷 🇵🇷

Dako! Theres a haitian proverb "Pale fransè pa di lespri pou sa" I do believe kreyòl should be the only national language of Ayiti. I'm not sure that French should even be one of our official languages. It doesn't display independence, strength, or freedom if we keep holding on to our colonizers way of life. Some of our people moved away from what true independence is. Thats why Dessalines laid down our foundation so that we would remain independent and to never again become slaves . Good video 👍

Great video and I admire the work it took to compile it. However, with all due respect, Spanish would be considered a colonizing language. Most of Latin America speaks it and teaches it to their children, as you say in the video. That would be like saying that each country should only speak its own local dialects and languages. If that were the case, most of Latin America would not be able to communicate with each other for trade or interpersonal relationships. Although the history of why we speak Spanish is admittedly a sad one, the truth is that without it there would be very little to no communication with other countries. Insisting on no French in the school systems or that French be only for the "elite" is quite isolationist. For the country to continue to progress and grow in a global economy diversification, education (including English and French), and embracing the local language need to go hand in hand; just my two cents.
@beyondflyyy9935
@beyondflyyy9935 Год назад
Thank you for your insight. I understand where you are coming from. However I believe you are confused what I was saying. I did not say for us not to use French at all. I also did NOT say that French should only be for the elite. I stated that French should not be the primary language since the majority of Haitians know Creole. French can still be used, however the languages across the Caribbean are pâtwa, Creole, and Spanish. I can go to Saint Lucia speaking Creole and they will understand me, same in Martinique, etc. Lastly, I was repetitive in saying that the elite are using the French language as a weapon to misinform or “under-inform” the vast majority of citizens in Haiti. I currently live in Italy. Most Italians I have met speak multiple languages, however their primary language in schools, their government, and business is still Italian - NOT English nor French. This is because the majors of their people speak Italian first before any other language. Why can’t Haiti be the same way.

Sounds like you need to do your research on linguistics. French has over 90% of its words derivied from Latin, but guess what? Do you see France using Latin as an official language to administer the country? No, why? Because it would create a high rate of illiteracy. It is a basic scientific fact that ppl best learn in their native tongue (described as the language they use in their everyday activities from the day they were born). That is why the Kingdom of France in the 10th century made French its sole official language. This was done to promote literacy for the reason I explained above, despite Latin having centuries of history as Europe’s premier language in academia. It is for this same reason why the beautiful lady in the video was stating Haitian Creole should be made the sole official language of Haiti. Just like French existence is not dependent on Latin being an official language of France, likewise Haitian Creole existence is not dependent on French being an official language of Haiti. I don’t know who you are trying to kid over here, but your average Haitian in Haiti doesn’t speak French like Senegalese ppl. It has nothing to do with socioeconomics (Haiti and Senegal are at a very similar socioeconomic level). It definitely isn’t a lack of intellectual capability for the Haitian ppl either. The reason is due to Senegal using French as a lingua franca among the various ethnic groups that speak different languages, where as Haiti already developed its own unique language that unified the ppl - Haitian Creole. That is the language that should be used to administer the country in order to promote literacy more efficiently. To use French is asinine since it is clear as daylight that the average Haitian doesn’t relate to the language and treat it as foreign. I was born and raised in the US, but my father’s family grew up in Petionville working in the government of Duvalier. That side of my family speak French fluently in their household (creole is only spoken to the maids) and they would make fun of the French spoken by “moun andeyo”. My point is fall back with that whole “I bet you weren’t raised in Haiti” talk as if that automatically dismisses someone from being an authentic Haitian from a cultural point of view. If you didn’t grow up in that true upper class lifestyle in Haiti, then those upper class Haitians would also disregard you as a “true” Haitian, despite being born and raised in Haiti.

So is the preference for Haitian Creole just out of spite for the French slave owners? Doesn't seem too pragmatic. I respectfully think that perhaps Haitians should consider maintaining their proficiency of French; if not for communicating with the French, then for communicating with their Francophone brothers from Canada and West Africa.

Great Video sis. I have been calling for that for awhile now. One thing I see is that those who are saying Kreòl is not a strong language are those who cannot even speak a good 30 minutes French without making mistakes or think of the sentence in Kreòl. It's funny how the daily activities in Haiti is done in Kreòl while the school's textbooks are mostly in French, so once a student leaves the school's gate all he or she hears in the streets and at home is Kreòl, specifically those whose parents are not educated at all. When you go to the bank you'll find a person twisting his or her mouth trying to say a few words, but if you engage them in a more structured conversation, you'll realize they speak no French at all.

@@FLYKIDD320 Hi welcome to my channel! During slavery, slaves were shunned to read and write. Since the slaves in Haiti at the time came from various African nations, they all had different languages. As a result of having to communicate with their masters and themselves, the slaves tried to learn French. Through the mixture of French and a few West African words, Creole was born. However, due to the lack of education the slaves had and the lack of interest the French masters had in teaching them the correct form of French, Creole was known as a slave's language. This situation is very similar to Jamaican patwa when they were under slavery through the British.
