Question about the Battles an Battle of Tabuk: During the Makkah years, emphasis was on Sabr staying steadfast and Patient. Migration was suggested to Ethipia, Habsh. However, when there was final threat to his own life in Makkah and he found possibility of migrating to Nadinah, the Makkan Quresh still threatened the Ansar, Helpers of Madinah, the Permission “Idhn” was given Surah Hajj to defend the Muslim community, and the expeditions at smaller level continued until the Battle of Badr in the 16th month of migration, in which 313 Muslims were to confront between 950 to 1200 well armed Makkan Quresh, their own relatives, cousins, brothers, fathers and sons. Inspite of all the Odds Allah made it Victorious for Islam, with about 70 main figures of Quresh having been killed abd about 70 having been captured. Prophet’s one Uncle Abbas and his son-in-law , Zainab’s husband were among the captives. This victory should be seen with reference to the Chapter 14 of Genesis, where Abraham Alaihissalam prevailed over the Kings from Mesopotamia abd Persia with, 318 or so persons with him. The Next Battle of Uhud, Muslims last 70 of their best including Hamza, prophet’s Uncle.. a sort of warning to Muslims.. But this defeat did not discourage Muslims. The Third Battle, that of Trench, Ahzab, lasted for 21 or so days but only a couple of attackers were killed abd one Muslim was injured who fied later. But after this Battle the Quresh of Makkah never attacked again. It was Islam’s turn to expand. Tabuk, Hunain and other battles can be seen frim that perspective. You have to defend yourself when attacked and when there is existential threat. But live with people with 3 options: as described in Quran: Invitation to Islam, Jizia, or war. These are both contradictory to what I understand / what I was taught. The sheikh position on the topic seems mercurial.
