Dropped into the Ace yesterday. Believe it or not, they actually have an EV meet night every month now! But I was pleasantly surprised a mug of tea was only £1.50.
I could not agree more! Quiet every time. I too have learnt the hard way. Many times I've fitted loud exhausts and every time I regret it. I totally get the old adage 'Loud pipes save lives'. I do get it. Bikes should sound good, but do they really have to burst ear drums? Good call Freddie, and well done for being true to your self.
Hi from Ireland Freddie.. If you meet anymore of those Irish fellas tell them to stop taking the piss out of English lads and come home immediately. We have a booming economy with full employment and we need all hands on deck... Great video.
It is amazing what one can capture I a short. A lesson to those who expect viewers to watch a 15 minute health video to find what a good vegetable is for a certain ailment. Well done, enjoyed it.
Put on some effing ear plugs, man. Every rider will go deaf over time *from wind noise alone* without them. But I for one applaud having sensible sounding mufflers, I can't stand people who make their bikes antisocial on purpose... but again, EAR PLUGS AT ALL TIMES...
I have a 2019 GSA and have kept the stock exhaust. Don’t get me wrong, I like the sound of a good engine and exhaust but a loud exhaust when touring, normally around 6-8 hours riding per day, gets a bit tedious on the ears in the end. It’s great what he has done to the bike, runs better, breathes better and sounds better. No need to change it now 😉
On the subject of wind noise, I am sure I have seen Freddie use ear plugs in the past. However I would suggest the issue is with his helmet. It’s a ‘style over substance’ one made to look retro with a large aperture at the bottom. The visor seal may not be the best either. To reduce wind noise he needs a flip up model as it fits closer around the head and therefore has reduced wind roar. The looks however…….. maybe not what he prefers.
Ohh Freddie, Joe & Emily have resurrected your Bonneville to such an incredible pristine condition and a delight to see this rebirth. I totally understand the desire to have a quieter exhaust for long touring journeys. I do wonder though if you require a re-map since the refitting of the semi standard exhaust mufflers? The air cleaner mods were probably set with those aftermarket mufflers. Only time will tell with performance, but improve fuel consumption. I do hope you & Monika use ear plugs irrespective of travels short or long?
If I remember rightly the white version was done for the first year in Kawasaki American racing colours, it didn't work so they switched to the Kawasaki racing green colours that was more widely known and upped it to an 1100.
Just found this guy - funny how you happen upon stuff in the deepest recesses of YT. Liking the content and already got Paul Bettany slated to play you in your life story!
Joe, Those mains on the Royal enfield The plain bearings are ok ( good design) BUT there is a batch of rubbish ones floating about ( see Paul Henshaw channel) Ive done a few however had no problems with the plain bearing the roller option may be the safer route
I am loving the collided youtube worlds of Joe and Freddie. An idea strikes me, once Joe completes these builds have Freddie make a 'review' vid of them :)
Exhaust can sound really nice without being loud. I have a Kawasaki w800 cafe, which is pretty quite, but sounds great. Kawasaki spent a lot of effort to get the sound right.
Hi Freddie, not wishing to be a killjoy, BUT! Have you notified your insurance company of all the upgrades, and performance improvements made to your Bonneville? If not, and the worse happens, you know what street you’ll find yourself in.
I watched all of Joe's videos on Freddy's bike, and it seemed to me that he stripped it down and rebuilt it, replacing like for like, using Triumph parts, and just corrected any faults? It's not "upgrades", surely, just "repairs"? The improved performance is just relative, because the bike was on its last legs for so long?
Does the UK have a maximum Db level for motorcycle exhausts? If yes then that is the answer. Other people should not have to be subjected to the illegal exhaust systems put on their bikes by owners. Simple.
Another great video Freddie,it’s good to listen to Joe a man who clearly knows his bikes and gives good advice and has done the Bonneville to perfection.Personally I am a chrome man and I think chrome exhausts would set the black off to perfection.Keep them coming Freddie your videos are excellent because your not afraid to show your frailties. Many thanks again.
Can you explain the welding for the exhaust? I thought the Tors was basically an end can replacement... Also, i thought the remap was to take care of the improved airflow which icludes the Tors exhaust.....so what happens if you go back to stock?
Did you try ear plugs? I have an aftermarket exhaust on the Guzzi and have Aplne Motosafe plugs which are fantastic and somehow drown out the bad sounds and keep the nice rumble. I still keep the dbkillers in thougb as completely open the pipes are ridiculous IMO.
Fabulous bike now, great to have an update. Totally agree with you about the exhaust. Your exhaust sound is a consideration to YOU and everyone around you. The standard bike sounds wonderful and takes me back to my 1st big bike. A 1956 Triumph 500 Speed Twin. Enjoy every moment. Thanks for posting.
I am not sure the finances add up on this bike for the average person wanting to buy a Bonneville? Joe spent a ridiculous number of hours 'fixing' the bike.....have I missed the part where he tells you how much it would of cost outside RU-vid influencer land? At the cheapest hourly rate in Portugal there would surely be the cost of a new bike? You are doing some great stuff Freddie but this collaboration was a bit too contrived for my liking. PS Totally agree with you about the exhaust.
Been riding street legal bikes since 1969 & always with unbaffled straights. It sounds glorious & has saved my bacon on many accounts. And at night at speed, the blue flame shooting out. Can't beat it. Never once heard that bike before or after muffed. Hard to prove if you don't give us sound of the bitch you claim.
Not everyone likes loud pipes. Nothing wrong with it. Me personally on my 1967 Chevy pickup my pipes can wake the dead, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Finally someone had the guts to say it. I've got industrial deafness. Loosing your hearing to loud exhausts is just plain dumb just because you want to make some noise and sound like a bad ass ! Pulsed noise is the worst thing you can expose your ears to. Not only that it's exhausting on a long trip. We get weekend warriors ripping through our village on the weekend with their illegal non stock exhausts. Nobody thinks their hard ! Just obnoxious. Performance tuned pipe's should reduce noise not increase it. Biking is hard enough on the body as it is without destroying one of your most valuable senses.
