Chris Craft had a factory adjacent to my elementary school in Salisbury, Maryland. This was in the mid-1950's ('55, '56, '57). Loved watching the boats go in and out of the factory yard in various stages of completion. Then see them completed, and loaded on trucks and trains. Magnificent motorboats. As they say, ''they don't make 'em like that anymore.''
I love the rush of going fast on water but in the end these peaceful moments are the ones that really make me feel alive. ❤️ Would you rather go fast or slow? 🤗
Yesterday Porvoo’s Urban Development Board made a historically narrow minded decision on Wilenius Boatyard’s fate. The Guest Harbour / Spa offer was chosen as the winner (Votes 7 against 4) and this means that the story of the boatyard is nearing is end. Everyone in the Wilenius Society are devastated. So are we and the whole Finnish wooden boating community. The city - that calls itself a ”Culture Town” - has shown it doesn’t appreciate it’s wide history one bit. All the city cares about is it’s beautiful looking Old Town but what are good looks without content that is living cultural history? The city of Porvoo is willing to get rid of it’s thriving wooden boat culture for the sake of mass produced ”entertainment” when they could have both. The fight is not over yet. The Wilenius Society will act and complain about the decision. There is a huge support from the citizens of Porvoo and the media has written positively about saving Wilenius Boatyard. Yacht clubs, experts, politicians and other people with the sense of historical values are coming together in support of the Wilenius Boatyard. The city still holds all the keys to have the Guest Harbour / Spa without killing Wilenius Boatyard. From this on all visibility is good and our job now is to keep making noise and creating international pressure on a city that relies a lot on travel - a city that has lost their taste. If you know someone from International (or Finnish) media who would be willing to write about it let them know. In the meanwhile, let’s show our support for Wilenius Boatyard. #SaveWilenius
The forward view of front deck, windshield and dash so simple, exquisitlly clean lines, truly the best of yesteryear and today...thankyou for the ride...such a rare beauty
Thank you so much. I enjoy classic boating so much and I'm happy to be able to share even a part of the experience. I guess I need to make some new videos soon!
That is the right attitude! I'm sure you will get the runabout of your dreams soon. I will tell you making your dreams come true is really worth it. I've been restoring my antique boat for the last five years and will finally get her in water this summer. It's my big dream coming true. :)
Are you restoring one? I wish you the best of luck with that and I hope you get her ready soon. I'm answering 7 months late so I might ask what is the current situation with it?
