Got mine for the D500 and it worked great no issues. Left the battery out when I placed it on then put the battery in. I think maybe you got a bad one but mine works great. They don’t make a OEM battery grip for the D500 so you’d have to get an after market.

Based on this video, I have just bought the Neewer battery grip for my Nikon D500. Fortunately, I read the manual and did not install batteries before attaching to my camera. After adding the battery and then switching on the camera, everything worked perfectly. The LCD screen shows BP next to the battery symbol, showing that it uses the grip battery first. This is welcome as I have Bluetooth on for SnapBridge.
I remember getting super upset for the home button getting scratched the first days I got the phone but later on you just don’t give a fuck about it cause it always works,as scratched as it can be
Maybe you know this based on you hinting at it, but the D500 doesn't have a hard buffer limit any more. Paired with a fast XQD card, the D500 imposes only a completely artificial buffer of 200 RAW pictures. Once it stops, you can continue again with no delay and an empty buffer instantly, as it's just stopping you at a 200 picture limit in order to stop people who've left the camera on in their bag with the shutter release depressed from filling up their entire card.
I'm having meike battery grip but it only does that with my duracell battery, not the genuine. I put first the battery in the camera, I open it, close it and get the battery out of the camera. I then put my battery grip and it works perfectly with my duracell battery too!!!
I will never use a 3rd party Grip ever, I did once on a D300 and as soon as I connected the thing up smoke was streaming from the thing luckily no damage to my camera at the time, Lesson Learned.
I'm using a 3rd party grip with No problems, what I did find out is you can only use Nikon Brand Batteries in the D500{ they have some kind of 3rd party battery Block}. 3rd party batteries in my D750 and D3200 no problem....
Its Seems As, Complete Mummy with Gold, Butts Made by Copper Samsung doing job same, completely scratch and water prof, but no claim is something still inside low quality. Some one have to remind them, O hello, PaPa remains always Papa, don't try to compet with I-Phone
