"A Month In The Country" was a lovely elegiac book and my introduction to JL Carr. Looking forward to exploring his other novels now. What is the background music at the beginning of the video? Sounds like a British Pastoral "Adagietto".
Thank you so much. Thanks to a recommendation by a member of my book club, I have just completed the book (and the film) and found it beautiful gem which has many resonances with my own life. I will refer the clip to them and hopefully some of the others will view very soon.
Pretty sure the pilot has broken several regulations as regards to minimum altitude allowed to fly. In my Country Civil Aviation would pull his licence. A power failure down there would kill all on board.
The irony is the closest you get to fly like they did in top gun is in a helicopter; no way as a fighter pilot are you going to swoosh around canyons in tight formations and turns, even if you fly low.

As both a white water raft guide and R44 helicopter pilot in training, I absolutely would not fly that low over the rapid part of that river without at least a life jacket on. Engine failure that low over the river and you are landing in the river and the rapids are big enough to shove you under when you're trying to swim to the side. Also that's a fairly large river it's going to be a while before you reach the edge and if you notice the cliffs there is no shore some places.
