Arsenic and Old Lace is wonderful! Cary Grant did physical comedy so well, and there is some genuinely spooky stuff as well. I'd like to see High Spirits and The Frighteners.
I love old movies that’s one is so good can’t believe no one really talks about it. Especially since the Frank Capra box set is coming out. Highly recommend both High Spirits is more funny in the tone of a pg-13 family movie and Frighteners is darker humor very underrated.
The Frighteners, Arsenic and Old Lace, and Comedy of Terrors are great! I found out about Comedy of Terrors because it had Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, and Basil Rathbone in the same film; sign me the hell up. I would add the Ghost and Mr. Chicken and In the Mouth of Madness. I revisit those every year. There's quite a few on that list I'll be looking into.
It’s so good! Not sure why we haven’t yet Germany is on their 2nd 4k release. I think they did a very pricey box set and then not long ago I heard a steelbook was put out. Those 4ks are region free if you want to import them.
House is great, yes. But have you seen House II haha? Great series of films if you have the 4 in the Arrow collection. One that I would recommend is a made for TV movie that's free on RU-vid to stream called "The People Across The Lake" from 1988. It's an absolute classic. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yNU56zAbq5o.html Higher quality and from another YT show: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kVT-sBK6I7s.html
The House series is great absolutely love and own the 1st two. Always wanted the big leather bound box set Germany released a few years back, it was a bit pricey so never pulled the trigger. Thanks for the recommendation I’ll be sure to check it out.
Idle Hands is a movie that I just realized that I no longer own. It was one of the VHS tapes I got rid of and never upgraded. I definitely gotta pick up the Blu Ray. It's such a fun movie.
I thought about doing one of those 31 days of Halloween challenges, with the "this type of movie on this day, this movie on this day" thing. But I didn't like the idea of deciding what movie I'm going to watch that far ahead of time. What if I get to that day and then I'm not in the mood for that movie? But I am watching a horror movie, or some type of spooky movie, everyday this October. I watch scary movies all year long, but normally they're mixed in with a bunch of other types of movies. This year it's only going to be scary or spooky season type movies. With two nights down I've already watched Terrifier 2 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
That’s how I felt trying to figure out my recommendations. I felt obligated to watch it, but what if I changed my mind or something came up. Then I’d be a fake, not going to do that. Figured this was an easier way to go about it recommend something’s people rarely talk about. I am going to watch all the staples Nightmare on Elm street, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw & a bunch of werewolf and vampire movies in between. I picked up terrifier 2 on VHS so I’ll prob rewatch that and you can’t go wrong with the Chainsaw movies!
I’m 54 and I refuse to upgrade to 4k - not worth it at this stage. Standard blu ray is my final choice; it is good enough for me and I’m starting to see many more in the charity shops and half price stores since people are dumping their Blu rays for 4k - win for me
I still have movies on vhs and dvd that I never upgraded, I get it. I know I will never upgrade everything. Blu-ray’s look great even on a 4k, some older Blu-ray’s could use a new 4k scan bc but other than that any new film on Blu-ray looks incredible the difference isn’t huge. I’ve upgraded all my favorites and now only buy a 4k if I didn’t own the movie already or if I can upgrade from VHS or DVD.
I completely get why you don't collect them anymore, it can get exhausting to replace all of the ones that break. The only reason I've bought more over the years is because I'm so fed up of replacing the blue plastic cases for blurays, I've had multiple tv boxset blurays come apart and it really sucks because I worry about the discs getting damaged.
I get that too premium sets are what I love. I did find that if I buy 100 Amaray cases at a time they work out to .50 cents per case. I don’t mind replacing at that price.
I like steelbooks. It's a more interesting package than a plastic case. If they would make the case more interesting, I'd be into it. I don't display mine though, they're just on the shelf with the spine out. That said, 4K steelbooks are stupid expensive, so I wait until the price drops.
Having grown up with painted movie posters on the VHS covers, the steelbook are is appealing. Since I made that video I have found some premium steelbooks that come in big chunky box sets that protect everything those are wonderful. And yes the cheaper they are the better sales are how I ended up with so many.
Take a think bath towel and fold in half, then put the artwork in between the layers of the towel. Take a clothes iron on low and iron out the wrinkles. It does not take all the wrinkles away but will help smooth it out. I use this to flatten out posters before placing them in the frame.
@@tennkenobi in my experience if multiple discs are skipping at the exact same spot than it could be the player having trouble reading through the disc layers. (Many people have reported above problem after an update. There are whole Reddit forums on that topic alone) the other thing is more rare but don’t rule it out would be badly encoded discs it’s a manufacture error so just replacing the movie fixes it. Currently I have 2 Sony and one Panasonic 4k players, brand doesn’t matter the problem is reported on all players and everyone saying that person should have bought the player they did. 1 of my 3 players after updating will not read 2 discs won’t even get to the menu, they work perfect on my and other players. My recommendation is if you know anyone that has a PS5 or Xbox or any 4k player see if it’ll work in those before you try and replace or repair anything.
@@80sMadeConsumer Thank you…. It’s really strange, the disc plays the movie perfect for the first few minutes then stalls , jumps, freezes for about 10 mins of the movie time then plays rest of movie fine. I thought this was disc problem but after trying 3 other movies I guessed it was player. I went inside the player, carefully wiped laser lens but no difference. Could it be the track the lens moves on?
@@thelastmoviestanding haha I’ve tried to like that one and just can’t get into it. Thanks I tried to have just the clouds over head and it wasn’t working didn’t look right, in my frustration I settled. Whats your rainy day movie?
The most expensive release I have bought was the Criterion Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman set for $150. The difference is it has 25 movies in it. I can't spend that for a single film.
I get it, for a long time I was that way too, but now it’s less about adding new movies and more about curating the collection. I have a few pricey sets but for a long time it was get as many as cheaply as possible.
@@bigbearhugebear9018 In general that’s not normal here are a few reasons that may happen. A 4K movie might be letterboxed for a few reasons: Aspect Ratio: The film may have a different aspect ratio (e.g., 2.35:1 or 1.85:1) than your TV, leading to black bars on the top and bottom. Source Material: The original film might have been shot with widescreen formats, resulting in letterboxing to preserve the intended cinematic look. Display Settings: Check your TV's display settings; sometimes, settings can affect how content is displayed, though this is less common with letterboxing. If you're looking to eliminate the letterboxing, you can adjust your TV settings, but keep in mind that this may crop parts of the image.
@@80sMadeConsumer Thanks for the reply. I have Netflix and their new content is 4k Dolby Atmos on most of the movies again all are letter boxed only using 2/3 of my screen ... The Vikings was made years ago uses my full screen and its great to watch. Valhalla a TV series 4k dolby and great picture but has letter box using only 2/3 of my screen..this is a TV series
At least half of all new 4K disks I have bought had a large scratch on them that cause freezing and skipping. There is no wiping that off. RU-vidrs don't want to admit the majority of problems are being caused by a single manufacturing plant in Mexico with almost no quality control. It is literally ruining physical media collecting.
That is apart of the problem quality control with anything isn’t what it used to be and most certainly my made in Mexico studio releases have those problems but mainly due to cheaper cases. Any of the boutique labels that said made in Mexico use a higher quality disc haven’t had to clean any of them.
This is one of the reasons regular bluray discs are the SWEET SPOT. Toothpaste does an awesome job repairing my skipping bluray discs. Also it HD audio and picture at an affordable price. 4K is overhyped and is very niche.
If you ever want me to send you , free of charge, dvd-r burns of some of my horror vhs collection. - Please let me know. You'll be geeting much like what my friend Tim has: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pimdukyc3-Y.html&pp=ygUQam9zaCBmdWxjaWZhbjEwMQ%3D%3D
don't you mean downgrades to that rubbish blu and 4k rubbish atmos , i rather upgrade to laserdisc than that rubbish blu 4k had enough of botched colour aspect ratios and dodgy near field mixes and fake atmos of old outdated movies , where dolby labs rubbish atmos used as a cash cow money grabber , enjoy the rubbish blu 4k , laserdisc rules
that is surely a way to look at it. I can't recall if i mentioned it in that video or another one, but I was disappointed with the Snatch 4k the colors are noticeably off I even had to compare it to my old VHS and sure enough it was. I would love to add Laser Disc to my collection, I have never found them at 2nd hand stores and very pricey on eBay with most of the players you are taking a gamble on. I do have VHS, Betmax, CED, DVD, Blu-ray, 4k, & a few of those PSP movies. Never been partial to one format its just about the movie for me, although a premium box set can peak my interest.
