Nice video. I've been ripping my physical media for years. I have a 50TB NAS for my Plex server. Over 250 4k titles which I used DVDFab. It's the best and easiest I found. It does all the subtitles automatically. It is expensive. I waited for a sale. Also, you have to stream everything uncompressed to get the best 4K results.

Very nice! I do enjoy the watching tv shows from mine hoping when we move next year for better internet, and then I’ll upgrade to the NAS right now I have 28TB inside a computer.

Thanks for sharing the information. This may be something I need to try, as I've had some DVDs that no longer play. Unfortunately, I'm as tech savvy as your grandfather!!

I'm glad it was helpful, a bit intimidating sure but not that difficult plenty of step by step videos on youtube. 1. Rip the disc to the computer 2. Compress/Convert the file to the desired format 3. Rename the file so the program can read it 4. place all movies in one folder & Tv shows in another 5. set up the library to look for those folders & update library if you add anything

Awesome thank you for joining me on this journey I’d rather watch a movie than do anything else. The biggest benefit for me has been the TV shows we even stopped binge watching and started watching like we did back in the cable days. Certain shows on certain days at the same time every week it’s something everyone looks forward too. Let me know how it all works out I’m active daily on my social media.

I started building and ripping my collection to Plex last summer and it’s been awesome. I’m ripping all my DVDs & Blu-Rays but not my 4K’s yet and I have been able to rediscover shows & movies in my collection that I totally forgot about and haven’t seen in 10-15-20 years. I’ve also experienced disc rot first hand when I got around to ripping All In The Family S6 Disc 1 and the disc would fail during the ripping process and I was only able to get 4 episodes off the disc so I flipped it over and to my surprise the bottom of the disc was rotted terribly and wouldn’t play in any standalone player either. After I rip titles I carefully packaged them away in storage and it’s a huge space saver.

That’s awesome, sucks about the disc rot. Storing them away is great I had no choice but to leave them on the shelf. I too find that it’s perfect for TV shows. Cut the cable cord 7 years ago and my youngest is 7 she’s only ever had physical media and she’d binge watch shows to death. Since the Plex server we use it like the 90s certain shows on certain days and Friday is for TGIF it really made the whole experience better.

@@80sMadeConsumer that’s exactly it, and the convenience factor of being able to watch your collection on any screen In the house and on a phone or tablet when away from home is great.

I have a handful of HD-DVDs. I've ripped CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K UHD discs. But how do you rip a HD-DVD?

You need an HD-DVD drive in your pc. Some people have had success hooking up an Xbox HD DVD player to the pc and it’s the same way make mkv worked.

i've never had disc rot either, 20years of collecting. BUT... have have noticed a few (very very few) of my super OG DVDs from the early 2000s, won't seem to work anymore in new players like a PS4 or PS5, ironically my Dukes of Hazard DVD. But it will work on my 10+ year old DVD player. 1 of the main reasons i'm trying to upgrade all I can to blu-ray. I need to get everything digitized, haven't been able to get all that figured out yet

That’s weird all my discs work in all the new players 4k and PlayStations but I have an older Integra 5 disc dvd changers that once in a blue moon doesn’t read I assume it’s the laser and not the disc or a combo of the 2. I was happily upgrading all my DVDs to Blu-ray or better and only keeping doubles. All that changed bc of collectors envy and the American Pie collection 😂
