Musical keyboard MIDI interface with buttons structured like bee cells. At this keyboard sound combinations are easy to imagine as geometric shapes, projected on the cell structure, opening new ways of systematizing music and offering unique opportunities to create micro-tonal music. #Generalized keyboard #Microtonal #Xenharmonic #Hexagonal keyboard Homepage beeboard.org

Hi there! Love the sound and your playing. Since you're familiar with 17TET, I was wondering if you could help me figure something out: I'm making a "vibraphone" of sorts out of Pringles cans cut to various lengths, and the rack I'm using perfectly fits 18 cans, so I wanted to "tune" them (via cutting different lengths) to one octave of 17TET. My question is, what note should I start from? I've found charts for the number of cents between intervals and such, but for my "first note" do I just pick any standard note and build it up? I'm not sure how to set my baseline given I'm only doing one octave. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Very nice - an innovative solution A few thoughts: (1) The user could swap in any layout plate as long as it's in software. So if the user used an "All fourths" layout (such as with the "LinnStrument" by Robert Linn), he could snap in a square grid layout. (2) This could be great for prototyping - varying key dimensions/spacings or entire layouts. No need to make a circuit board to solder switches. (3) If the software could be ported to the Raspberry Pi and it's camera module, then instrument might be stand-alone with the Pi inside the body of the instrument. (4) Is the software open source?

Thank you! 1) The program reads a special layout file at startup. Switching occurs by changing the layout name in the config file. To replace, the program must be restarted. I use different layouts. There is a plan to make a hot key to toggle between layouts while playing. 2) I have a 3d model that can be resized quickly. It would not be much harder to make a large instrument with more buttons. For myself I found that 19mm between the keys was more comfortable for me. 3) Slowly trying to customize for the Raspberry Pi. But for now, the trouble is to get the required FPS. 4) The idea is to create an open source project. So far no one has been interested. I would like to design everything in a way that is understandable to the person interested. The program alone is unlikely to be enough, to make an instrument. * Do you play similar instruments?

@@radishdalek Interesting! And how is the work progressing?

@@beeboardmidikeyboard686 Not bad - I'm currently assembling a test pcbs of a small section so that I can test my code and design before I order the full sized pcbs. One thing I did not anticipate was how difficult the SMD switches were to hand solder - I'll use a hot air solder station for these next.
