Hay géneros de grandes tiburones cretácicos que, aun que no fuesen tan colosales como O. megalodon, era tan grandes como otros otodontidos. El caso mas claro seria Cretoxyrhina mantelli, que podría llegar a los 8 - 9 metros como mucho (un tamaño mas que respetable y que es una excepcionalidad dentro del género), otro candidato seria Cardabiodon, el cual seria igual o más grande que Cretoxyrhina. Este género se conoce por dientes y vertebras de gran tamaño, con algunos centros vertebrales de un tamaño exorbitadamente grande incluso para los tiburones mas grandes que aparecerían en el cenozoico con hasta 10 cm de diámetro. El ultimo caso que puedo pensar ahora mismo seria la especie Cretodus carssidens, que era mas grande y pelágica que cualquier otra del género, con grandes mandíbulas redondeadas.

It’s interesting how Bartlett built upon the Jaws theme. He’s essentially arranged a remix, building upon that basic two-note melody, making it far more grand and imposing. In a way, it matches the sheer scale and terror of O. megalodon
