Great catches man, it’s sad to see this negligence and risk of life just to save 5 minutes almost ruin some good piece of railroad history. Hope the driver is alright and wises up and the locomotive is fine and will return to service soon.
Oddly specific threat for a typical vandal and homeowner. I’m surprised they know what a traction motor is and where the lead is. I guess they’re educated on what a diesel electric locomotive is.
London had nearly 500 people working at the nearby EMD plant just over 12 years ago. There are likely numerous people living near the CP yard that have at least second hand knowledge of the details of a locomotive's electrical system. It's one of the few places where such a threat doesn't really narrow down suspects at all.
You'd cut the traction motor leads at your own peril. That would take time and make lots of noise and smoke. Probably just long enough to have the cops arrive. Cool video though! Nice job!
