Witness the remarkable sight of the Ex-UP SD90MAC locomotive, numbered CP 3747, and the iconic CP SD40-2 (CP 6028) with dual flags as they lead a train on the CP Windsor Subdivision in southwestern Ontario. To my knowledge, this marks the first time a Ex-Sd90mac has lead in Southwestern Ontario, and the first one I have ever seen!
The Ex-UP SD9043MAC, once owned by Union Pacific, holds a unique journey in its locomotive history. Acquired by CP Rail for the purpose of being rebuilt into the modern CP Rail SD70ACU units, it is a true gem to spot in action before going away. Paired with the reliable but aging CP SD40-2, this train presents a unique opportunity for rail enthusiasts and collectors.
The two units were originally paired up on CPKC 231, trailing behind some GE power. They were then dropped in London in which it would lead H-89 down to Windsor, Ontario the next day. I had to rush out of my house for this train, since the first sighting of the train wasn't reported until Tilbury, Ontario, which is only a 40 minute car drive from this location. Luckily, i made it on time to capture to probably be my best train of the year. Also, enjoy the bonus video of CN 438 with a Canadian cab leading!
