We bought this 3.71 acres in northwest Georgia in 2019. We have been fixing the outside and working on becoming self-sustaining. This is the documentation about our journey to that end.
Have you thought about putting a Winch on the front of your tractor? Maybe that could be a lot of help, especially in close areas where you can’t back up the tractor.
I would be interested in what I could do with a lawnmower tractor. I have a mess of stumps of poison trees from bird poop, and I've let them go too long before I started trying to clean out the Chainlink fence row. I worked all day at no avail. Either my hook is wrong, or something... The tree stumps are only about the size of my wrist, but they ain't budging so far... Any help?...
To keep the pulling force on the stump upward not horizontal use a rolling fulcrum near the stump. An ellipsoidal shape is most effective although a cylindrical shape also works well.
Your vids are great and I will use what you've taught me to pull out some of my own trees soon. Have you tried using an old wheel to direct the force up as opposed to horizontal? I've seen other vids do this with various levels of success. The force might be too much on the wheel for the larger trees.
I am a new subscriber and watched all of your stump pulling videos today. It would be good if you would show routing each cable end around the pulleys. Are you using one cable or multiple cables?
Nylon is not synthetic...what is it then-organic??? Nylon, polyester, polypropylen etc., all this is synthetic and why the hell do you need 8 blocks, not to mension 4 straps and 10 shackles...are you preparing for an apocalypse?
You need a wire rope with a sliding choker hook like they use in forestry or a wire rope sling with a shackle. Google: "liny zrywkowe kr poland" These logging chokers are rated up to 28 metric tons. The cheapest method is a wire rope sling with a shackle. Where I live, people use it to uproot trees in orchards. Using a special machine, they uproot trees, pulling them upwards. Such a loop tightens very securely on the trunk and does not slip off. Video title: "Wyrywarka pni drzew WPDH 14/1600 - kto pamięta ? - karczujemy śliwy - sadownictwo"
does it matter if you have shorter length ropes? im guessing you are using 100 plus foot ropes. i literally want to pull a tree down with my hands holding onto a rope and loving the science behind it. im looking to take apart a tree in the back yard peeling the branches off then snapping the y area on two parts of the tree. Thank you for the video it truly helps me out.
I have never ground a stump. I have been pulling stumps for 50+ years with a 1.5 ton come along. I use chains due to the fact that they do not fly if they break. If you use cable make sure it is pre stretched, proper winch cable. I also help out the process by stopping periodically to cut (sawsall), chop (Polanski) break the roots on the opposite side of the stump from the pull. I have never used pulleys but offen have considered it to take myself out of the line of pull. Yes damp soil helps.
First thing is that rope would have scared me enough to at least throw something over it incase it snapped. The other thing I was wondering is if you would have had better leverage putting the notch for the chain closer to the top of the stump?
If you have an Amazon Prime account and you copy a link to share with your Prime Account embedded in the link, it will not work for anyone else. Might be why it didn't work... Thanks for all your videos and answers.
I usually soak the ground for a while before pulling. Then sometimes when it is half way out I’ll get as much dirt as possible off the root ball with a hoe and hose. Pressure washer works even better.
Wow, the stump and all. I'd have a log or block by the base of the tree to be felled because that's a lot of stress on the trailer. But this is brilliant! :o
Fun videos to watch but speed up the video at sections and also make cuts to move the story along quicker. The video production will be harder but more people will watch and finish the video. IMO. Thank you for the video!!
If you want to make another one of these videos come to Dallas, Texas. I have a project where we have to clear some trees. Would you like to come and make a video?
I like every bit of your rigging the pulleys but two things. Take advantage of your tall stump and hook up closer to the top and it will act like a lever against the back roots, pulling them first. Second, when putting the chain around the stump, its ok to wrap it once or twice, but the slip hook should be hooked back to the main chain (like you did later) that way it won't spin around the tree as you pull.
Hey Brian (?), some great videos of man versus trees. Who would've thought watching someone pull down trees, or pull out stumps, in 4K no less, would be so riveting? Because most of your viewers are men, we can't help ourselves in offering up suggestions and solutions - after the fact 😂. No wonder our wives get frustrated with us 😁. You're doing a great job. There's nothing wrong with failures, as we all learn, and get a good chuckle as an added bonus. From this video, we've learned why some trees snap in a storm and others pop right out. Different species of trees have different characteristics and require different pulling strategies. By the time you get halfway through pulling all these trees on your property, you're going to be able to consult yourself out as a tree removal specialist. Looking forward to seeing how you get the stump out on this one. From an appreciative viewer in New Zealand. Cheers, Ian.
Brian I have some trees around 12 to 14 inches in diameter. I have a 75 hp 4 wheel drive tractor. What would you recommend the working load limit be of my snatch blocks, ropes, straps, chains? Thank you so much for taking time to post these videos I find them very educational
Many engineers, scientists, physicists, politicians... are brilliant! We need some of them dearly. But they typically lack "common sense".... usually educated beyond their intelligence. Nice video! Keep it up!
Amazing show of pulleys! You lost me when you stated you used glyphosate to kill the tree??? Glyphosate is "a probable carcinogen for humans and other living organisms"!! You are poisoning your ground and possibly exposing yourself too. Copper nails are pretty effective and not as dangerous.
Lots of fun watching! SInce are planting fruit trees anyway one might consider just "top working" those ornamental pears with a culinary variety right onto the stump. Lot less $ and trouble. Just as interesting perhaps. Would get nice fruit pretty quick on those massive roots. Too late now obviously but other viewers might consider.
All the “rent a backhoe” comments are made by people who rent apartments and have never paid for any type of property work whatsoever. Love the pulleys! Pulled down about 6 Siberian elms so far with a 28:1 and a 4000 lb winch.
