💯 years ago !! Amazing footage; thank you for the uploads !! BTW, I am about to start a 1:700 scale model kit of LANGLEY. That you're aware of ? Is there a USN list of the different types of aircraft assigned to her on a year by year basis ? I want to depict my model of LANGLEY & it's attendant aircraft as accurately as possible.... Again, thank you !! 🚬😎👍
Ukraine should have taken the deal to transfer the FA18 from Australia but for some reasons they insisted on the F16 which is marginal on these austere airfields. The FA18 have tougher landing gears and they operate on the most austere environment on the aircraft carrier
The Swedish Gripen and its concept of dispersed aerial-firepower, will have a great comeback - now that they are within the NATO framework. This is the future, together with aerial drones (as buddies)
@@airailimages, Thanks. Also, the Milwaukee Road Box Cab locomotives are Cool. Too bad the management was Crap and they decided that Electricity wasn’t for them at the worst time.
I am glad you have Memorial Day commemorations in your area.
Earlier this month [May 2024] My big sister took my Dad and I on a tour of the HM, around it and inside when the mechanics were on lunch hour. Got to sit in the captain's seat and make plane engine noises. What a joy to see this plane. Standing at the tail, looking up at the size of it is jaw dropping. Thanks to Coulson for letting us see the HM before she's takes off.
The big problem for the F-16 isnt the landing gear, even if that can be an issue. The problem is the low, very big airintake for the engine. If the runway isnt clear from gravel, stones, sand etc, it gets sucked into the engine and destroys it. The Gripens airintakes sits higher and are smaller. The Russian intakes have covers that they use for landing and takeoff
And, if I recall, the MiG-29 can block the normal inlets and open air ducts on top of the inlet bay for takeoff to avoid FOD, switching to normal inlets when in flight.
My dad served on a ship that delivered aviation fuel to all of those islands in the Second World War. He is, was, and always will be my hero. God bless you always, Mr Johnsen, and thank you for everything you do. God bless the USA 🇺🇸
Regarding take-off and landing Gripens (and Viggens) are much better than F-16. The latter is a Formula 1 car that sometimes gets flying. I am not sure if the F-16 will be so good for the Ukraine who was used to fly with Russian tractors (MiG and Su).
Entire Swedish defense forces on air, land and water are based on shoot and hide over and over again from a much larger invading enemy. (russia) a kind of guerilla tactic. That's why the airforce is built to land on temporary roads all over Sweden since the cold war era. 2 specialists and 3-4 conscripts in a hidden truck will gear up rearm refuel and they go up again in 15-20 minutes creating havoc. Have in mind that 70% of sweden is forest and there are hidden roads all over and different storage and bunkers all over. A regular fighter plane needs a very vulnerable fixed airfield that is a really highclass target and takes large logistics tasks and 1 hour to equip in many cases
Russia will find out what Hitler would have found out if he attacked Sweden and that is those mountain passes can be held by only a couple of divisions and he would have lost major tank division like Russia will if they try it
Oh those old warbirds! Nothing so sweet as their rumble! So moving to see them fly!!! The P-40 is in my top four favorites. Thank you for sharing with us!!!
You are very welcome. One of the joys of making video of Warhawk Air Museum activities is the ability to get away from loudspeaker music, so we can preserve the ambient aircraft sounds as much as possible.
“Let the wookie win, droids don’t tear people’s arms off when they lose” 😂😂😂 paratroopers are some tough individuals. I think about those guys jumping at night out of C-47’s in WWII into enemy hot zones, Easy Company, absolutely tough as they come.
The canards are what enables the gripen to land like this. Without them they would need thrust reversers. Also canards are what makes Gripen E able to super cruise
What an excellent way to celebrate those who have given their best to keep a free world. The Warhawk Museum retains the spirit of America at its' best.
John Paul’s P-40E was the first I’d seen in person, 1972 at Hamilton AFB Memorial Day open house. In the spring 1984 I was flying a passenger flight in a WestAir Commuter Twin Otter, from Modesto to San Francisco, through the Livermore valley, and the very same P-40 pulled up on our wing (very briefly, not close enough to call formation). After my shift, I drove over to Livermore and spoke with John, who acknowledged that he “might have seen” the Twin Otter. 😉
Gen. Claire Chennault would be very proud of all of his men and women of the Flying Tigers. My Grandma was his secretary in India, she brought his two Dachshunds home when the mission was completed. Great period in history.
Compare the size of their landing gear to the robust landing gear of the Russians aircraft. No contest. Russian planes also don't need to have clean roads. Stones and nuts and bolts are not going to affect them.
Partly true about robustness, but the low weight of aramidic fiber and carbon fiber of a small plane makes a big difference. And the alloy and steel quality and suspension in landing gear also is a big difference, even compared to german and some Japanese steel /alloy. Still carbon fiber is much lighter and undetectable than titanium for velved and rounded forms with big surface areas. The fuel efficiency of the motor and sleek frame makes its fuel consumption extremely low-which means you dont need to land to often. The landing gear is testet and strenghened over the years without sacrificing weight or suspension performance Then there are helicopters and drones for the gravel and grass places:)
If you noticed, those roads are in use. They just stopped the traffic while the planes were landing, maintaned and taking off and then they just released the traffic again. Been doing this since the 1950's. The roads are not cleaned or prepared way before use. You can look up "Bas 90" and "Bas 60" ("Flygbassystem 90" and "Flygbassystem 60") on Wikipedia for a short introduction of the concept. These particular facilities were shut down during the "eternal peace" era at the end of the 1990's bus as one can see, it's still a thing but just a bit different.
I was so luck to have seen the F-4 Blue Angels and Thunderbirds several times at Alameda and Oceana as a Navy brat. I can still smell the exhaust and just now getting my hearing back ;) Saw the A-4 and F-18s, but the F-4 will always be the BEST and MOST EXCITING!
A lot of these pilots fly commercial airlines when they retire after their military service, which is why I don`t get nervous while traveling through out the continental US.
I would like to know if the USA does something like this with our many miles of Interstate highways. Also, are the Interstate roadways built to handle this type of activity.
I don't believe Interstates are especially intended for this, but I have seen video of A-10s operating off of smaller roads in the upper midwest for training.
Why was the USA so successful during the Cold War? It implemented the Marshall Plan to economically strengthen its partners in Europe. The USA was the largest economy and opened its market to the products of its allies. The USA offered its allies a security umbrella with nuclear deterrence through NATO. As a result, America managed to push back the influence of the Soviet Union on Europe and ultimately won the Cold War. The alliance between Western Europe and the USA is proving difficult today. For example, Germany follows a mercantilist economic model and is therefore dependent on cheap energy and large growth markets. Russia and China can provide both of these for Western Europe like no other country. The USA, on the other hand, is becoming increasingly less important as an economic partner. And since the collapse of the Soviet Union, there is no serious military threat from Russia to Western Europe. Nevertheless, tens of thousands of American soldiers are still stationed in hundreds of US military bases and US nuclear weapons are stationed on German soil. If you look at the situation objectively from the US perspective, America is protecting Europe from the countries with which it has close trade relations. Europe's core interest, however, is to further expand its economic relations with the USA's biggest competitors. Don't be blinded by the politicians' rhetoric. Feelings, shared history, values, culture and traditions play no role at all in whether alliances really work. What matters is whether the interests coincide. And it turns out that the interests of Europe and the USA can no longer be reconciled today and this partnership will soon end.
This was done as several countries had fallen under the influence of the Soviet Union, and others were in danger of doing the same. Communism was strong even in Italy and France.
No one in Europé wants to increase trade with China and/ or Russia nowadays ( except Hungary perhabs), on the contrary, all civilized countries regard especially Russia as paria/ outcast. But other than that I agree with you that Europé as a whole has a lot to thank the US for in terms of economic help and protection during and after WW2. On the other hand I totally disagree with you regarding the threat from Russia. Look at what they have done to Ukraine and they are constantly threathining all their neighbours and tries to expand their evil empire. It is vital that Ukraine get all the help and weapons they ask for.
@@allanasp771 German Chancellor Scholz has just visited China and intensified economic relations. Everyone is talking about de-risking, but no one wants to be cut off from the largest growth market. One must not be blinded by political rhetoric. The political craft is lying.

Great footage! I love your work!!! I’ve fitted and welded miles of pipe in my lifetime. That trooper working as a welder’s helper without his shirt felt it that night and next day for sure!!!
