Hey, thanks for the video. : ) I was one of the original Police superfans back in the late 70's. I have to be honest, I don't love this track, but the production is great. : ) Kind regards, Darren (Wales, UK)
Big fan of King Crimson here I would like to give a few suggestions 1. Walking on Air 2. Islands 3. The court of the Crimson king 4. I talk to the wind 3. Epitaph 4. Starless 5. In the wake of Poseidon 6. Moonchild 7. Formentera lady 8. Peace (and all subsequent versions( 9. Dinosaur 10. basically the whole in the Court of the Crimson King album 11. Skinshape - I didn't know (unrelated band, but still pretty good)
Time: 1:08:00 Made it to the end! I really enjoyed this presentation. It brought me back to times when some friends and I would hang out at our own rehearsal studio(s) and try to "out guess" the market and craft "the next big hit". Unfortunately, we weren't very good at assessing the target and we all remained anonymous. I find it amazing that you both have such a great grasp of the past 40-50-60 years of the music industry; every band and song you brought up tonight are vivid events in the timeline of my past and its rare to come across members of the younger generations that can identify with such vast and varied landscape. Rock On, BardonMusic!
Time: 1:00:00 Lemme toss in an odd one - "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winter Group. It's more of a Cult Classic and though it does not have the same recognition as, say, "Hotel California" or "Don't Stop Believing", any time a (good) band performs it in a club around here the crowd goes CRAZY!
Time: 50:00 Toto... "Rosanna". Funny how Steve Lukather hates the song; it's probably his most memorable guitar solo. Super hit song... Indeed a classic and.... I need another Nusty Rail.....
Time: 30:00 Two of my favorite LP collections are from: Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett. Both collections are magical to me but, as Adam noted, it is PG's collections that have garnered more public acclaim whereas SH's collections exude technical excellence for its own sake and his theme-scapes, whether Prog Pop , Blues or Avant Garde are quite impressive.
Time: 20:00 WtF! I was thinking of offering a comparison between TS and M and Adam brings it up. EXACTLY spot on! Both TS & M were very savvy about what to offer their fans but only M (IMHO) was aware of what she needed to do to make her product "timeless".
Time:15:00 Ok.... I give you a challenge.... Listen to "Time Peace" by the Rascals (yes, a 60's band).... TP is basically a greatest hits LP that we old farts can listen to and be transported back to when it was released. The challenge is for you two to pick (1) LP from each the 80's, 90's and 00's (3 LPs total) that produce the same effect on listeners TODAY, who are from those time periods.
Hmmmm.... DISCO was once "In fashion". However, I seriously doubt if anyone will EVER consider it to be "Classic"!!!!! (Same with recent RAP). I'm not suggesting theses are not valid music genres... just that they lack whatever magical components needed to be "Classic".
Thiago nailed it.... Classic as in "Timeless"... Like classic cars.... the product that retains its allure regardless of its age. On the other hand, "Oldies" seem to be confined to the pre-mid-sixties sound - DooWap, Motown, anything heard in the movie "American Graffiti", pre-Beach Boys/Beatles.
Greetings, Adam, Thiago et al!! I just missed your live broadcast and am watching this now... I'll comment here and there as I watch your presentation , but first - Please post the contents and formula for your drink!!!! In the meantime, I'll join you but with a Rusty Nail - simply 3:1 - Johnny Walker Red (Scotch) and Drambui (Don't forget the ice!).... Cheers!
Just saw it and "covered" on Twitch, man, I didn't gave you much credit by your kinda of deboche (idk if the word it's correct) face on the thumb, but it's one of my favorite musics at all. So I played, and enjoyed so much both the fact that you did actually like the music, all of the work and effort put on it, and also talked about technical aspects of the music construction and musical scenario overall. Congrats.
If a person told me they don't like Depeche Mode, Prince, Bowie, Kraftwerk and the Beatles, that alone would be reason for me to completely ignore said person, however the fact you took the time to understand these ppl, respect... I love all of these bands and artists but I had myself some bands that I really did not like at first but now I consider excellent, 2 recent names would be the Weeknd and Dua Lipa....Great artistry and great music there....
How is it overrated if it is the song that changed their whole perspective into making music and incorporating elements that never did before? You might not like it, but that song is EXTREMELY important for them as a career progression and sonic soundscapes progression.
Hey there! I would love to see your reaction to "Hi Ren" by Ren. He is an amazing artist, and unlike anyone you have probably heard. He is the modern-day Bard! He has a huge fan base that loves watching reaction videos to his music. "Hi Ren" is a great first song into the rabbit hole that is Ren. I gave a sub for the hope you will give Ren a try!
I think all things can be true: People want to be entertained, educated, wowed, and they want it in the shortest time possible. I think the bigger fish to fry is making music great again. Making music a part of the listeners soul again. It's a big fry because the machine says nope, you're not in the club. Pro tip I would like to see all genres do, especially rock, to mix the vocals louder and for lyrics in general to be more meaningful... To me, that's the fundamental part that's missing, which is the thing that will hook people in, in a good way of course :). Good luck on the journey of making music!
You are totally. correct my friend, one of the biggest problems we are facing as a society is the diminishing attention span of the masses plus the immediacy that came from having access to the internet anywhere at any time specially on those that grew up when this was the norm. As you say Making Music Great Again is truly needed as the whole process of creating music has been trivialized and made redundant and for the vast majority of people the end result is meaningless, nothing more than background noise due to many factors but mainly the normalization of trash passing as music in the mainstream channels. this phenomenon is affecting every aspect of culture just look at movies, books, board and video games all of them suffering of the same illness almost like the got infected by a virus.... similar to what that african american who likes the letter X too much said
@@bardonmusic Spot on! I feel there needs to be a revolution of the music industry.. the old guards need to go and the new format of appreciation of the arts needs to be the main focus, as well as compensating the artists and creators fairly. The old system has to come down because the guys in the suits do not have artists or even listeners interests in mind and its been blatant;y obvious the last 20 years at least.
i bought a tonex one to be at the end of my pedalboard but i cant get it to work right. loaded an ir into it but it doesnt respnd like and amp. as soon as i put one drive pedal on i get this super high pitch digital noice. fuzz and tonex no go. is my unit just fucked or what am i doing wrong?
on my main board that;s based on tonex as my "amp" I have a Fuzz pedal (hizumitas by Earthquaker devices) and it takes it incredibly well so I think that the problem you are facing might have to deal with the profile you are using I recommend to explore tone.net and look for one that would give you the result you are looking for. It is important to understand that the EQ on tonex is not behaving like it would on a real amp since it will shape the signal coming in if you use it in PRE mode or the sound of the signal after the profile POST mode unlike an amp where it affects the gain structure and behaviour of the amp. Try to play around with those parameters and with your pedals to find the sweet spot. Hope this helps
I have the same issue with Tonex one pedal and always while connected to a computer and headphones. Not sure what is the issue so I had to return it back. There is an article on the same but it suggests to disconnect the usb cable.
@@LennyKant regarding the USB situation that happens to many pedals for example my eventide and cabzeus pedals tend to amplify noise when plugged to the computer the same as Tonex as a result of the communication between your computer and the pedals, Ill recommend to when plugged to your computer using your Tonex as an interface bypass the amp simulator on the pedal, then in your DAW load Tonex as plug in granting you the sound and a clean signal
I was listening this album on and on during a rough time of my life, i could say this music saved my life or at least my sanity and I am grateful for so much beauty and sensitivity that helped me move forward. God bless her!!
Thanks mate, great insights, I have the Tonex One and enjoying the process, it does take a while to learn the software navigation, etc. Will check out your free tones. Should I invest in the Tonex Max software, just using the SE for now and have found I can craft some decent tones from there, however the options on the MAX look amazing, thanks.
Max is clearly a superior offering by far, when SE has plenty to get stuff done particularly if you get use of the 20 slots to download profiles. In my opinion Max is great if you are investing time on tonex as your main guitar/bass virtual amp in the box and on the stage, where SE would be the choice if you just want to have a good guitar sound in your computer. Honestly speaking, I consider SE as a very generous demo and if you are enjoying tonex that much I think is fair if you support the developers by getting the full version. Disclaimer, im not sponsored by IK multimedia it is my own opinion. Thanks for commenting!!!
BTW... Michael McDonald is that "hollow" voice that you hear in the Doobie Brothers. He, and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter joined the Doobies just after their contributions to Steely Dan so there are a bunch of similarities in the two bands sounds.
Steely Dan tracks on "Peg", and most other songs were perfectly recorded. But, then, the musicians who performed them were (are!) all LEGENDARY! Yes, this is my jam!!!! Cheers!
Great musicians are the key to any recording, the techniques and quality of the gear used are there to attemp to capture as close as possible the magic coming out of the performers. This album sounds so good because the musicians performing are excellent
Many musicians played on Steely Dan's "Peg" from their 1977 album Aja, including: Donald Fagen: Lead vocals and keyboards Walter Becker: Guitar and vocals Jay Graydon: Lead guitar and guitar solo Steve Khan: Rhythm guitar Paul Griffin: Fender Rhodes electric piano and backing vocals Don Grolnick: Clavinet Chuck Rainey: Bass guitar Rick Marotta: Drums Michael McDonald: Backing vocals, recorded four times to create a dense vocal harmony on the chorus Paul Humphrey: Backing vocals Tom Scott: Lyricon, which looks like a soprano sax and plugs into a synthesizer console in its case The song was written by Fagen and Becker and produced by Gary Katz. It was recorded in New York City in early summer 1977 and released in September 1977.
I knew there were several musicians involved but no that many haha. Steely Dan is such a unique entity its almost like the band is alive due to its way to adapt and evolve with time. Huge fan!!!
