GSD, Dobermann, and Rottweilers are definitely not for first time owners lol. If you’re getting them as guard dogs you’re gonna want a working line and working line dogs would turn most people’s worlds upside down. Example, my Czech working line GSD pup is 5 months old and I just took her on an 8 mile hike this morning and when we got home I was obviously tired and wanted to lay down but she has no off switch and came whining to me dropping the ball at my feet and I had to play fetch with her for an hour and 45 minutes right after that hike and it only last that long because I forced her to come inside. She got some water later down for 20 minutes and started dropping the ball at me feet again. It’s not even noon mind you. We will still train and do scent work to stimulate her mind plus play more fetch, some tug, and go on a walk before the night is over. She doesn’t sleep at night and will sit at attention in her crate most of the time ready to go just watching and waiting for me. It’s an absolute lifestyle and when you own a working line dog your life has to revolve around that dog.

My puppy is grown up now. She still acts like a puppy. Lol. I Love my German Shepherd. I think she thinks she is a human because of the way she acts. She is very smart 🤓.

@@knight59 Yeah! She love the attention, her treats and showing off her toys. Her little brother Ranger is so much calmer than her. But, when we go for walks on the trails he gets very excited and is more active than her.
I am not a trainer at all. I " work" with patience and intuition, trying to feel him. Some in our dog group pointed out to me that intuition is not "always good". Well we had a Canaite dog before, he lived to be 20 years old. So we must have done something right..

The Belgian Malinois, actually any dog or animal that you have and treat well, is loyal and loves "his people". He will protect and defend you without hesitation.Never punish him or use harsh words and aggressive training techniques (again true for any animal)- you accomplish everything and without great difficulty by positive reenforcement, patience and love. Personally it was important to build a strong bond between me and my dog, based on love and trust. He obeys because he was trained. On the other hand I let him roam around, explore freely- with me nearby. There was a time when he pulled me a lot and people advised me to use a shocker or chain collar which would press into his neck. I am totally against that! So I would just stop pull him back to me, continue walking, repeat that until he walked by my side on a leash. Yes it took me longer than with a shocker or choker. But after that he walked by my side without a leash.
Absolutely! Building a bond based on love and trust is the best way to train any dog. Your approach is a great example of positive reinforcement in action!
He communicates what he likes, what bothers him, what he doesn't want. Detects instinctively unusual situations and weird people who he thinks could harm me. If there is no immediate danger (to me), he will give warning signs, growling, aggressive barking and adopting a threatening position. He also conveys a variety of his feeling with his eyes.I see love for me (and vice versa from me to him), disappointment, sadness even. The latter was when I went through a brief but difficult time, then he would press into me and rubbing his head, or licking my arms, putting his paws gently on me.
It's amazing how deeply our pets can connect with us on an emotional level. They truly have a unique way of communicating their feelings and protecting us.

He is a sweet and gentle soul, but I know he will switch to attack mode in an instant in order to protect me if necessary. In such a situation you could say he is dangerous.
So true. Also means that the owner of a Belgian Malinois should be an active person and needs to be in good shape. I'm working from home so I am flexible to go on long walks and do activities with my Belgian Shepherd. I admit sometimes I don't feel like going out because besides work, I have other things in my life- then I tell him we are going out later, not now. He accepts that- I presume because he knows when I say or promise him something, I will do it.

Just remember how many you breed and then remember how many good homes they're going to be and how what time people go to work what the dog is going to be doing while the people is at work who's going to be watching the dog and it's really hard to lock a dog up and go to work for 8 hours and come home to what and then it's not fair for the dog to be not have space to run not get in trouble I mean we just can't keep breeding and breeding and then you know what you've got to have all this planned out beforehand and make sure that the people are taking care of the dog and making sure that if you can't find good homes for the dog then that means that the homeowner keeps all the puppies instead of getting rid of them somehow might want to take this into consideration as to how many malinois are already in the shelters and how many dogs that they're already are already bread as a melon walk they're so many

Me and my Wife live in Albania and have a Malinois. Fantastic loyal and incredibly intelligent dog. Very good natured dog, but needs to kept occupied. But would never swap him for any other 🐶 dog

Yes absolutely amazing dog. We have a Belgian Malinois❤❤he is also very challenging; although easy to train, he needs permanent physical and mental stimulation, exercises and unwavering commitment and mutual bond. Not suitable for first dog owners

Rottweiler hands down!. Excellent home guard and protection dog. How many Ridgeback are used by police and army. But Ridgeback can be good family guard dogs.

On Insta, there is a Russian dog training facility that has a completely Schutzhund trained Miniature Pinscher. She is small and fierce and perfectly trained. She has the heart of the lion and I did a double take the first time one of the videos popped in my notifications. So I would definitely add Miniature Pinscher in the lineup of small but mighty protection dogs, because Siri (her name) has shown her worth.
I got a Dutch Shepherd/Malinois mix at 8 months as my first dog/guard dog. Regardless of the breed, one thing that I've found the MOST important, is the bond you two have. The training and everything ele will come so much easier and quicker if the dog loves and respects you and looks at you as its source of all things good. The dog will naturally wanna protect you as well, thats where socialization and training come in. The dog has to have some restraint and a certain level of discernment so that its not just attacking everyone around you or anyone who gets too close. My dog is extremely energetic and playful but goes on alert mode and wont relax if im sitting down somewhere on my phone/not paying attention. Super loyal!

I don't believe that the proper emphasis has been given here to the fact that Malinois need very experienced owners. It is a disservice to the animal to be placed with people who are not prepared to offer enough physical and mental stimulation. Just as Dalmatians were popularized by the movie years ago but were not always the easy going family couch potato people may have wanted it's very important for a special dog like a Malinois to have a special home. Please investigate the dog you want to have as a companion so that you find a dog who's a good fit for you and the way you live. I love these dogs and want to see them in the best homes.
