Everything you pointed out, is true! Saying this as a Belgian Malinois owner. He is incredible! Actually I, we saw that he is not difficult to train, and at one point we tried off leash training in open field, worked pretty well.I am not a professional at all, as far as this is concerned- but I felt that he needs to be off the leash as much as possible. Not only for training but to let him roam, run explore, sniff the environment. Recently we have been considering to move (back) to the nearby city from our rural living place. In the end we decided against it, mainly because of our dog. I don't think it would do him good to be suddenly limited to a small space, where you are allowed to bring your dog and let him "free". He DOES get along with other dogs- but that:s not the point. Here we are surrounded by vast terrain, nature hills, springs (where he goes swimming). And that's what he loves and is used to.Now he is advanced in age, still full of energy and drive- the only thing I had to change was reducing our daily 3 excursions from 2 and a half hour per excursion to 1 and a half hour each.

I am sorry that I bothered you with details, but there are people here that are afraid of dogs- to the point of hysterical phobia. But he doesn't threaten anybody- he comes up to people, children, tail wagging, friendly (just see his eyes), kids want to caress him ( and they can), and then I hear the parent say: don't go near him, he is a bad dog...that really gets me going, they offended my dog. And I feel personally offended

I completely understand where you're coming from! It's tough when people misunderstand our furry friends. Your dog sounds like a sweetheart, and it’s sad that others can’t see that.
