Hi. My name is Paul Cook and I’m a guitarist from Edinburgh. I’m happy earning my living as a driving instructor but my passions lie in guitar music. No plans to be anything other than a RU-vid guitarist, having reached an age where I’ve kinda done the whole “band thing”. Loved it and I’ll cherish the memories but now it’s life in the slow lane, playing for the camera.

I'm so glad I found your clip on RU-vid as the Hudson Broadcast clips I have heard in the past have always been high gain and too fuzzy distorted. You're tone is great and based on your review I just picked up a Broadcast Dual on Ebay. It gives a great BB King tone and really has a great feel to it. Played through a Fender Tweed Vibrolux it is awesome. So many thanks for sharing and for your awesome playing! One tip for anyone reading the low cut knob 10am and down really changes the dynamics and add some beef to the tone in a good way!
This advice is in contrast to most ive heard - would you not extract the most out of the amp by cranking the master and then adjusting the volume? Gain on 10? Wild advice, i must go and try now
I’m glad you liked the R9. Not only is it my favourite guitar (a childhood dream to have a sunburst Les Paul), but it just sounds old. It sounds “woody” and warm. I just love it. Cheers for noticing 🍻
Not a great comparison due to different pickups. They were designed to sound different. If you want the old school Gretsch sound, get one with Filtertrons. If you want more of a solid humbucker sound, go with one that has Broadtrons. I have guitars with both, and they're great for different things. They are both good pickups, and I've used many over the last 33 years. The amp will matter more, as well as your ability.
The best aspect of your beautiful playing is that you use the features, to show the difference in sound between guitars. The strat is utilized to use its bell like quality, and the Les Paul it's punch, both their ease of playing to an accomplished guitarist. You have indeed demonstrated all the guitars, using incredible knowledge of playing, production, and the reason we all love to play,it's a lot of fun and creative too. PLAY ON MAESTRO!
Thank you Rolf, delighted you liked the vid. Yes, it’s my little Cornell Romany 12, with its stock 12” speaker. I think it’s a Jensen. My favourite amp. And all recorded by an iPhone. No computers or DAW. Cheers
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US has been down this road. You can either let it sink you or you can rise above. These players we idolize and love… the hours and repetition they have put in, we can’t even begin to fathom. Just remember this when you feel down on yourself… there are hundreds of players that wish they had your chops. This may seem trivial, but we have to remember how far we’ve come on the journey. It’s not always pretty, and sometimes the wheels fall off, but we push through. Love your honesty here and we all can relate. Carry on! Btw… your tone is amazing!
Bukovac is a very good session player of course..but his own personal music is horrible.. I guess its why he is always making others the stars..never himself 😉
Surely if you use a noise gate type pedal then you could keep the Junior and not have the hum. I love p90’s for their tone and use a Boss noise suppressor. Works for me.
Thanks Billy. Your comment is timely! Because I’ve just taken delivery of the EHX Hum Debugger pedal - and yes, it seems to work a treat! Cheers for the info
Yes, I’m sure to tap into your DEEPEST SOUL you need to go thru every one of your (free?) expensive guitars. Alas, we can’t all do that, although many here can play just fine on a Squire or whatever.
Hey Paul it's your friend Luis from Philly. I'd give up my guitar collection(23) for half your talent. You know how I feel about your playing. So much emotion!!!
So had a noisy reverb tank so i saw the cardboard top is facing the tubes so I turned it upside down and reduced the noise by 80%. It seems when a new product says vintage that you are also buying the vintage noise floor of the time. I had the same experience with 65’ vintage Les Paul noizzzz. I put copper in the pick up cavity and it brought down again . If you get a good amp tech should able spot the problem. Or try my fixes. Cheers
At the time of recording, it was all on the original 250k pots. However, as time went on I swapped the tone pot to a 550k. Full story here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gzqZnJ-qcwM.htmlsi=vTGSY88dDNu180Uj
Without a Strandberg any collection is incomplete :))) It's a joke, of course. Love your playing, man. And your passion. The Gretch sounds great, very jazzy.
Wonderful playing! Nice to be away from them for a while, then come back and play when you have some quiet time. Good for the Soul and you've been cultivating yours, so it comes out in the sound.
Clean the voltage with a clean power source and the 60 cycle hum goes away. I have a low would P90 in A1957 jr wired ip on Kalamazoo, mi and the guitar sings.
Are you an idiot? The Gibson les Paul Jr was the best of the guitars you played. Second was the Gretsch. If you cut the junior, you will regret it for the rest of your life. What a fool.
I found this very interesting and you are a lucky man indeed. For me the Tele and the R9 came over the best with wonderful rounded and clear tones through the Cornell.
an amp tech and a good one, should easily fix those issues, but the amp, if new, should be covered by warrantee. I would love to know how you got on with it.
I’ve just recently got it back from the tech - and I’m happy chappy at this point. Full story: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mJp28gqlDH8.htmlsi=GYAPl8h90qkRjRym
