No. Unfortunately. We’d still like to meet up with her for a reunion but it’s a bit of a mystery because no one heard from her again after this incident.

Always been a powerboater (my current is a 27' center console), but gaining an interest in sailing. What is a good size boat to learn on? I'm comfortable on the water, navigating, etc; just never sailed before. Im thinking mid-20' range?!?

My definition of a hero is someone who makes a sacrifice for others, particularly for their physical safety. He's not a "ran into a burning fire to save an unfamiliar child's dog" level of hero. But, he fits the definition of a hero in my book. He sacrificed his time and effort to save someone else he had no connection to.

Before i retired about a decade ago i worked with a fellow who was ex Coast Guard. He told me CG had some fellow speak to them about sea survival. This fellow had fallen off some boat and had tread water in the cold Pac NW ocean coastal Oregon for hours, much longer than the expected normal survival time. The lesson for the Coast Guarders was, "Do not give up too early". ( Yes, the ocean survivor was not a slender fellow. I think i would last only 15 minutes. )

It’s been years since I’ve been sailing. I have a question about tacking/gybing. Rather than tacking from right to left or left to right, when wanting to tack to the left when does one loop to the right turning the boat all the way until you are then on a starboard sail? As I recall this could be a safer tack in strong winds but as mentioned I haven’t sailed in a long to Ime and don’t remember when this was a good maneuver. Thanks.

Dolphins absolutely know and understand relationship with humans and the ocean. Likely those dolphins were with her in one thing they will do is keep sharks at bay. All lone sharks fear pods of dolphins, which can and will kill any shark even great white. Wonderful story of an amazing rescue ❤️ thank you for sharing.

I know the dolphins knew she was out their and I believe they swam that way because they wanted help for her! The captain is a very good listen and understands the importance of safety! The dolphins, the captain and his crew are all hero’s! Wow, I love that they saved a life!

Yes, sir, you ARE a hero! As I was listening to your account of the events I felt like I was witnessing a seasoned sailor who just performed a professional rescue operation. One more proof that a human intelligence supercedes experience and even training...and it is remarkable that you took an extra course and certification even though it was not required. I admire you for who you are and what you have done!

heartfelt congratulations !! , you did everything right, except: (without your fault) there was one very important element they didn't teach at the 103 course. Covering a hypothermic person with towels or blankets can kill him/her, because tissues only prevent further heat loss through insulation from wind, but that doesn't add any calories to a body which might already be beyond its own natural ATP-combustion faculty. The uncle of a friend of mine died after being rescued from a harmless boating accident because the rescuers only covered him and "let him sleep"(eternally) --- In the absence of warm drinks the best and fastest way to warm up a hypothermic human body is through almost naked physical contact with a warm human body under insulating wool covers.
