As long as you have intention it doesn’t matter. Although things like trauma and depression etc…. really help with describing the punishing reality of existing.
I love that people are starting to talk about FanFiction openly now, it used to be such a silent community. As an avid fanfic reader I would tell people that fan-fiction is a great stepping stone to get writing, you have a pre made world and all you have to do is ask ‘ what if ?’ and let your mind fly!
I used to hate reading because it felt forced by the school. I preferred to watch a movie instead of reading. The Twilight Saga was the 1st book series that got me reading in middle school. I read Harry Potter and the deathly hallows book after a classmate did a book report on it (before deathly hallows part 1 and 2 films came out) and wanted to know how the film ended. After that, I went back and read the HP series in the correct order.
Diversity for the sake of Diversity is a farce. I'm Iranian; I don't need a light brown short guy in the book to feel empathy. I need relatable conflict and situations to do so.
Back in early 2000s, I and almost all my high-school classmates shared one single copy of Harry Potter book. It was poorly translated to Farsi, with all the "undesirable" parts earased( literally blank pages in book4 were there was mentions of dancing and any romances. But there were website where fans put translations of the said pages, any way...) and we would tore each chapter and read one and hand it to next person. Last year after 20 years I read all the books in English and uncensored. It was just as incredible as the first time.
The Breaking Dawn 2 fight scene in the movie was jaw dropping. I think we all nearly shat ourselves. I remember seeing it in the theater with my girlfriends and the whole theatre gasped because it wasn’t in the book. That was a great addition to the movie. We all read the books and knew what was going to happen so throwing that in unexpected was really cool. The last book of the Divergent series… I was very angry with the ending. I agree that it seemed like there was no point. I understand that some endings don’t always have to be a happily ever after but the ending to that just frustrating. Like Dumbledore’s death had a reason behind it. It was upsetting but unavoidable.
Thank you for the great recommendations. I added The Familiar and Somewhere Beyond the sea to my list. Would you guys please recommend me a male/female romance book which is just male pov? I am not at all a romance expert like you guys but I couldn't find any that are written recently. Sry for my poor English and again thanks for the coziest nook which is your podcast.
No no, they are not, I fing cried for Mortal Hunters and died laughing in Shadow Hunters, they are 2 different personalities, they’re siblings not twins
Great list! I’ve read a few of those and have others on my tbr. Another great book that was released late last year is The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young.
Awesome interview! It's empowering how Susie followed her dreams to make what she loves into a prospering career. It's often difficult to know when it's time to switch career path and stressful making that decision. I had a very similar experience and can totally relate with "screw textbooks" and then finding a place that is filled with my people <3 You also sound like an amazing teacher, too. Loved this episode :)
I wish ppl would give real answers to stuff. No offense but this is literally a perfect opportunity to say something like "well I was reading this one book and in the back of it it had this guy's phone number and then that led to me calling this person because this person was an old number and so forth" about how you actually got into touch with a human being because a lot of people don't have a clue what just putting yourself out there means because in reality that has every connotation in the world attached to it... It's the same as when people say they want advice on how to become a billionaire and the person just says "work 100 hours a week and be the hardest working person possible"...like... I feel like anybody's audience would grow exponentially if they put the truth into how they succeeded about things. The actual HOW of it.... c'mon everyone says "we out our selves out there more" like it feels like ur calling everyone else who's trying to get into writing doesn't work as hard as you do therefore they failed and you didn't. I'll never understand why ppl speak like Tai Lopez and somehow you get buncha ppl going "thats SO true" but no ones getting anywhere... Sorry I had to vent a little bit I feel like no one is real about how they respond to stuff anymore. It's okay to take a second to think about something too... anyways...good luck with being vague but please change so u actually help ppl who want to get into that kinda business. If u have connections even that others don't...shit say that even. Don't just be like sll these others who pretend to care
LOVED this episode! Mr. Kristoff is def one of my fave authors. This made me smile so much. It's super interesting to get special insights into the lives of authors. :) Thanks!
I absolutely LOVED this story. I have read almost 200 books last year and Divine Rivals was by far my favorite. I am counting down the days for Ruthless Vows and I cannot wait to order in Feb (hoping I can subscribe before then or that they will make it to general release).
