Don’t we need to get that tip under the gum line and not just along it ? I’m so scared that I’m going to be told all my teeth need to be pulled or only saved with root canals (I don’t want root canals , bridges , implants ) so if I get told that , I am thinking I will just resign myself to getting dentures . I cannot stand the thought of things being drilled into my dental bone not to mention I know they have can often fail , both root canals and implants . But I’m pretty sure I have some serious abcesses going on as I have some strange throat pain and pain in the side of my neck on the same side unless it’s something even worse like cancer (which I hope not of course). but I don’t have dental insurance and I’m paranoid I will get an incompetent money hungry dentist. If there are very good dentists I’m sure they are very expensive . Can anyone chime in and possibly give some recommendations in Orange County CA? One who is skilled in using ozone as part of their treatment ? This is stressing me out so much .
The first thing you need is a competent and accurate diagnosis to see what your problems actually are. Only from there can you intelligently assess your options. I would recommend working with a holistic/biological dentist. You can do a search for possible candidates on the website of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) at iaomt.org and look for a dentist in your area. One possibility is Dr. Aizraigat Ayman in Santa Ana, (657) 600-8425. You'll need a thorough exam plus images, probably including a Cone Beam image. Ask lots of questions until you are comfortable with choosing an office. Yes, you may be facing some expensive options, but you need to first invest in a very thorough exam and discussion of options.
@@drpaulrubin thank you so much Dr. Rubin 😢 Do these offices give you copies of images , etc if you request them ? What should we always ask for copies of (in case decide to go to another dentist for a second opinion or we have to move away…) as a patient ?
@@SleeplessinOC Yes, any records from a dental office, including X-ray images, notes, photos, etc. are always available to you. You can request they be sent to you, or you can ask that they be sent directly to another dentist. You will usually need to sign a release form allowing the dentist to share your records with whomever you designate. Know that a Cone Beam X-ray image (which I strongly recommend you have taken) is a larger electronic file and usually can't be sent on a simple email attachment the way other X-rays can be sent. It's a little more complicated but it is doable. Some offices may charge a small fee for copying and sending records, some do not. I would ask for "all records and all images". Often, when a patient or other dentists requests copies of records all that gets sent are copies of "bitewing X-rays." That's not enough. You want all images and all records and treatment notes. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you.
@@drpaulrubin Dr Rubin , you’ve been so kind in spending your time in replying to me . Can you find the time to answer this one as well? What is the likelihood that one has an infection of the teeth (root) or gums but it doesn’t show up on the X-ray and cone beam images ?
@@SleeplessinOC Please understand that a Cone Beam or any other type of imagery is just one piece leading to a diagnosis. It has to include a complete oral exam and possibly other tests. Many types of gum infection will not show much on X-ray alone. An infected tooth, in its very early stages, may not show yet on an X-ray. But most times an infected tooth will show some X-ray evidence. A Cone Beam X-ray image is often much more sensitive to showing this information than a typical dental X-ray. Bottom line: you need a comprehensive dental exam, including appropriate X-ray images, to accurately assess your dental health.
Yes, but other newer models may come out. The key is that there is a dial for variable power, and that it has the PikPocket tip. I'm glad you liked the video. You might like my ebook: store.orawellness.com/products/secrets-your-dentist-never-told-you
Hello Dr. Trivedi. The answer to your question is not quick or simple. You'd need to invest in a phase contrast microscope (preferably with video connectivity), materials to make slides, and training in how to do this process. Where are you located? It might be easier to continue this dialogue on email, which is drpaul@drpaulrubin.com
What is the deepest pocket you've seen return to normal using this water pik method? Also, some professionals say not to use the pik pocket (level 1-2) at a 45 degree angle towards the gums and to only aim horizontal along the gum line... and that the 45 degree method of "flooding" is unsafe for deep pockets and possibly the body. Can you please clarify for me?:)
I disagree, obviously, with "some professionals." The procedure is technique-sensitive, but I stand behind the safety and effectiveness when done mindfully, carefully, and deliberately as described in the video. I can't tell you what level of pockets will resolve. Periodontal disease is such a complex and multifaceted problem. Unless it is handled as a systemic (and not just a local) disease and handled holistically, the likelihood of truly returning to "normal" is frustratingly small. It's not just about pockets and home care technique (though these are quite important). To understand more about the complexity of periodontal disease, I recommend my book, "Secrets Your Dentist Never Told You" [shameless plug!], available at store.orawellness.com/products/secrets-your-dentist-never-told-you Also, check in with orawellness.com over the next month or two, or sign up on their mailing list to get notified of an upcoming interview they will be doing with me on how and why those with periodontal disease find that in so many cases the system is rigged against ever reaching an end point of being truly healed. But not impossible!
Hello Dr. Rubin! I read the irrigator only goes 4- 6mm deep? Any chance it goes deeper? Do I have to use a pocket applicator if pockets are more than 4-6mm deep? I really don't want to and I love the irrigator using the pik pocket at 1 with grapefruit seed extract. Thank you so much for the information you have been sharing with the world. It means everything to people!
Thanks for your question. It's really hard to know just how deep a home irrigator can effectively reach. Much of that depends on the precise, mindful, and deliberate technique as outlined on the video. The best measure of success will be with your dentist and dental hygienist over a period of time. A pocket applicator can reach deeper, most likely, but it is even more technique sensitive and difficult to master without careful instruction and practice. Periodontal disease is frustratingly complex, a subject I address in my book, "Secrets Your Dentist Never Told You": store.orawellness.com/products/secrets-your-dentist-never-told-you
Forgot to add. It looks like they're alive because they're moving around that's cool but also really gross. I didn't know they move I didn't know they're alive thanks for showing and shearing. But they are seriously alive ew

Some guy wanted to kiss me they were like in their 60s or 70s. They talked very close to my face and there breath snells nasty the whole entire body smells dirty. I definitely did not smell like they brush there teeth.
I gotta say, as someone who is TERRIFIED of the dentist, I found this video IMMENSELY helpful! I only found it because I was googling additives for my Waterpik-like machine, to improve my gum health. I'm so glad I found it! Thank you for all you do! 😬

Thank you so much for this instructional video! I've been doing this technique for 3/4 of a year and am seeing good results. I've also purchased your ebook - thank you! Initially I tried this technique with baking soda and then Under the Gums but then switched to the Nutribiotic GSE grapefruit seed extract six months ago. I've seen the most reduction in plaque with the GSE. I really like it as it has been effective and is easy on the WaterPik, too. I have a question about using GSE: is 8 drops in 21 oz (full tank) of water acidic to the teeth? If so, could it cause an erosion of tooth enamel if used before bed each night? Also if so, could it be added to a tank of dissolved baking soda to make it less acidic? Thank you so much!
Congratulation, James, on your dedication to your oral health! I don't think you need to worry about the GSE and enamel erosion as you are using it. I've never seen that to be a problem. I'm glad you can see the reduction in plaque. More telling would be to see what the plaque makeup actually looks like under a phase contrast microscope. It's a shame more dentists don't use this valuable tool. Have you tried finding anyone in your area who is trained in Biological Dentistry?
@@drpaulrubin It's a relief to hear that the GSE won't cause enamel erosion. That's great - thank you. I haven't looked for an office in my area where they are trained in Biological Dentistry but will keep it in mind. I have a good dentist who has seen the progress and have been having cleanings every 4 months. The last time I had my pockets checked was last July, prior to this technique, so I'm expecting improvement the next time they are checked.
Yes, I understand your reaction. Imagine if you saw that image in a dental office from your own plaque sample! Please consider ordering my new e-book, “Secrets Your Dentist Never Told You”, available at www.orawellness.com
I don’t know, but you should be able to find some version of grapefruit seed extract (GSE) and try a few drops of that. Or use baking soda as described in the video. Just bought your e-book, very helpful video. I've been using a Waterpik for a couple years now, but not one with the tank and not one with this tip. First I'm seeing or hearing of it. I'm going to pick up some replacement tips today. I've been alternating with 1/4C natural baking soda to 4 C reverse osmosis water and 1/4C food grade peroxide and the same water this whole time as well. Have a 6 month cleaning coming up in March and I'm very interested in the results. Appreciate the videos and am still trying to figure out how to interpret the cone beam xray I got on the flash drive from the dentist after the initial consultation.

Yes, GSE will kill both good and bad bacteria. Oral probiotics are often a good idea to keep the populq5ion or beneficial bacteria intact. Look for products that are specifically designed as oral lozenges to benefit oral bacteria. These products and formulas are different from probiotics taken for the gut health. I still like the options of products mentioned in the video. I'm not aware of anything new that's superior to those. The best way to tell how effective the product is by the results. Ideal is to have a dentist/hygienist who is equipped to take live plaque samples and view them under phase contrast microscopy as described in the video. Next best, though it takes longer, is to see what progress your dentist or hygienist can detect over time. Yes, this can be a great tool to help shrink pockets, but healing periodontal disease is much more complex than just one tool can accomplish. In my new book (see below) I have a whole chapter on periodontal disease and what most people don't know about it. Great video. Dr. Rubin, my dentist recommended adding a couple of drops of diluted bleach into the tank. Is that as effective as the Tooth & Gum Tonic solution you presented in this video? which one is better?
The only way to truly (and quickly) know which works best is to periodically look at live plaque samples as shown on the video. Unfortunately, very few dental offices offer this. However, I’d be a little wary of using bleach as it may be too harsh on the tissue and on the tubing in the device. Wow, excellent video! My perio hygienist has only advised me on using the general purpose tip, at 5-7 setting, and not directing it into pockets. She has not even mentioned the PikPocket, but your explanation is very compelling. I'm going to try it. Also, what about adding hydrogen peroxide to the water? Will that be helpful in killing bacteria?

The Under the Gum tonic only needs about 1/4 to 1/2 capful per tank. On a related subject of "quantity", when using toothpaste only apply a small pea-sized drop to the brush instead of the long stripe that the commercials always show. That is an excessive amount of toothpaste and can contribute to excessive wear and erosion on the teeth.
I would have liked to see the reality of doing it with the water on, because at the moment i can’t work out how to angle the tip without the water pouring back down the machine! I have a cordless version, cost reasons, and am concerned that the charging bay etc is getting soaked. Going one way is fine, but the other direction the water is just streaming all over the appliance and not simply down my chin and into the sink. Please show a reality video?
I heard that you only need the Pik Pocket tip if the gum pockets are 7 or higher? This worked great for my level 5s, but using the standard tip at a higher pressure of 6-8 may work even better?
No. I stand by my recommendation. The only use I see for the standard tip is if you have braces and want to blast food particles out of the brackets and wires. Oh, and water fights.
@@drpaulrubin 😂 Gotta love water fights! Thank you!! I really appreciate you relying, and I so appreciate this video-in five months, it helped me reverse my level 5 & 4 gum pockets (one 5 left), and the rest are now 2’s & 3s. My hygienist is super impressed. Just to clarify, even with healthy gums, do you still recommend the Pik Pocket tip for maintenance? Thank you again!! 🙏🏻
Yes, I think it is great for maintenance, even when pockets are minimal. Congratulations for your positive progress. With a history of deeper pockets, you are always more vulnerable to some relapse.
@@drpaulrubin Thank you so much!! I will keep it up for sure. Your video was invaluable to me when I first got diagnosed with 5mm gum pockets! I’ve been so impressed with the results that my family is starting to water floss with the Pik Pocket as well! Many thanks from all of us, and God bless you! 🙏🏻✨🦷
Thanks for a very informative video. I couldn't make out the word at 1:13 -- "Plaque is a ??? containing a wide variety of bacteria", sounds something like "bidokiln" or "vital kiln".
This is an exciting watch. First we see live, moving bacteria. Very motivating. Then I learned that the water tank can be removed from the base! Game changer. The swipe away of other parts besides the tip. Funny and dramatic. Suggested tonics/antimicrobials: 7.25 a good start and honestly why I came here. Talking about settings and how it feels and going slow was helpful for me. How does this helpful video end? With how to clean it! The other reason I am here. Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for. 🥰
The Real Cloth Diaper, I also use half a paper towel to dry mine after each use (AFTER it semi dries while I brush my teeth!), and it stays looking new!! I reversed level 5 gum pockets by using this method once a day with 10 drops Grapefruit seed extract in the tank. I hope it goes well for you!! ✨🦷

*TESTIMONIAL!!* 🎉🎉 Thank you SO much for this!! I bought the *Aquarius WaterPik,* as suggested, and am using the *Pik Pocket* tip. I also bought the *Under the Gum Irrigant,* and I use 1.5 teaspoons per 22 oz tank of water. I also bought *Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE),* and I use five to ten drops per 22 oz tank of water, as I saw you advise in a comment. I wasn’t using my Sonicare correctly (an expert said to angle at 90 degrees, but that’s incorrect), and I was always used to going a long time between cleanings with no issues, but when I went back recently (April 2022), I wound up having several 4 & 5 gum pockets. They *scaled my teeth/gums,* and the next day, I researched and found this video, as well as brushing teeth with soap, which can also really help (I started on Dr. Bronner’s bar soap). For one month, I brushed with soap twice a day (angling my Sonicare towards my gums at a 45 degree angle and using circular movements), and I used the “Under the Gums” Irrigant with my WaterPik once a day for 5 minutes. *After one month, my dental hygienist found that nearly all my pockets were reversing!* Several 5s went down to 4s or ever lower, and I only had two 5s left. I expect to reverse those as well! And my hygienist originally told me the 5s would be irreversible. Ha! Holistic treatments usually find a way. :) Anyway, I’m thrilled!! Thank you so, sooo much for this invaluable video!! I’m starting Invisalign soon, and I feel like your video will help ensure it goes well. Many blessings to you! 🙏🏻 *UPDATE* (3 months later in August 2022) I went in for another cleaning, and I now only have ONE level 5 gum pocket left!! Most are now 2s & 3s!! This is working SO WELL!!! 🙌🏻 Between now and my last visit above, ALL I do is this: * 10 drops GSE in the tank. 5 minutes daily. * Brush teeth at night with Dr. Bronner’s bar soap. In the morning, I floss, use the WaterPik, then brush for two minutes with a non-fluoride toothpaste. I even skipped several mornings during this time using the WaterPik. * Sometimes (I’ve mostly been forgetting to do this, so not often at all) I swish my mouth with a very mild iodine solution, or hydrogen peroxide.

@@carol-vl7uv Oh goodness, I’m very sorry to hear that. :( I suppose it’s possible? Especially if GSE is acidic. I actually didn’t realize it was! Read more…. My hygienist just told me to keep doing what I was doing. My teeth got very sensitive after bleaching 4 nights in a row (they were totally fine until after the fourth night, otherwise, I would have stopped sooner). BUT, I chalked that up to doing Invisalign, which can make your teeth more sensitive, and I shouldn’t have done four nights in a row (I always did every other in the past). As for yellowing, maybe a little, but I figure it’s due to brushing with bar soap at night, which can accelerate yellowing. During the daytime, I use Tom’s of Maine Rapid Relief Sensitive toothpaste, and my teeth have been doing well and haven’t yellowed much in the past 6 months since I last whitened them. I also use a mineral mouth rinse by TraceMinerals, but I actually haven’t used it much due to forgetting. LOL But, it’s alkalizes your mouth, so it would good to use after rinsing with water after using the GSE. I think it also helps rebuild enamel-there are some other minerals rinses out there too that will do this. Maybe the Under the Gum Tonic would be best for you-it’s just that $40 price tag, and it’s only lasts about a month! :/ GSE is a fraction of the cost. How’s your diet? I don’t eat processed food, sugar, etc, and I know that really helps too. I eat a lot of greens (a huge salad most nights), and those are great for tooth health. I’m so sorry you’re struggling with this, and I hope it gets better. Would love to get an update down the road from you. 🙏🏻
