they trully dumbed it down. deja vu is superior to error 6e in every single way. deja vu allowed you to set up traps, gave you more screen control, and overall gave him more of a unique gameplay. in strive all error6e does is keep the combo extender part, while discarding everything else that made deja vu unique. at least they fixed the overdrives. sadge moment edit: another thing they made worse, but somehow they bedmans dash in strive even more clunky than it already was. it just feels so slow and has too long startup
I do Miss Bedman's gameplay from Xrd, setting up those points to have his special moves go again from specific spots felt really fun, like a pseudo puppet character. He's still fun in strive but he (it?) feels a little less unique now.
Some of my favorite moments from these matches: * This psuedo-cross-up One Vision on Nago - 4:32 * Giving a bit of juice to my Jack-O brain-cells - 10:53 * Becoming a Ping-Pong ball - 12:36 * Seeing Axl's beautiful 5K - 24:26 * The Ank Special - 27:05 * Spreading Ank Special-Brainrot with my opponent - 27:32 * Timing a Winter Cherry with Heavy Day - 51:08 * Misinputting a Taunt by bumping my controller on my knee - 51:57 * Using the tools Daisuke gave me to mix up my opponent - 54:08 * The Ank Special Season 2 - 54:29 * Showing another premium presentation of the Reversal Super - 1:04:42 * Activating my "Backwards Install" - 1:13:41
This tourney was really nice for me since I don't typically do Tower. I learned that there are some matchups that I don't know AT ALL for the most part- or I'm at least really rusty. Nago is a very challenging character to fight, and I'm definitely still struggling to figure out what else I can try in order to turn that matchup around. I also haven't learned the best way to deal with Elphelt's rekka- I should prolly watch that Hotashi video again lol There were a lot of Celestials in my matches, and I kept up with a couple of them really well- felt good! I've been planning to focus more on Xrd in order to REALLY learn a character in that game, but Strive always finds a way to bring me back.

It's a shame that both El and Ram lost basically the entirety of their unique gimmicks going from Xrd to Strive. Ram lost her risky and high-impact setplay to turn into one of the most ridiculous unga bunga kits and El went from an overly elaborate but highly entertaining stance system to yet another rushdown character. They're fun and I adore their personalities, but it's also a bit sad they're both basically entirely new characters that just visually resemble the originals.
My two cents is this- Xrd and Strive are VERY different games, so it makes sense that their characters would reflect those differences. Arcsys or RED definitely wanted Strive to be easier to pick up than Xrd, and also were probably looking for a game that was more popular in the west than Xrd was- I think that’s why a lot of the game has been ‘simplified’. Despite that, I still feel like our characters movesets are expressive and fit them well, even if they’re different. Like I always tell my friends- if you wanna play Xrd, play Xrd- what’s stopping you? Plus, while I would be interested to see how Xrd Ram’s moveset would work in Strive (probably poorly, let’s be honest), characters like Johnny and Elphelt were changed so drastically for a reason. I don’t need to spell out why lol.
@@Ankha5 I don't think anyone was pretending that Ram was considered to be quite weak in the meta and that El had an absurdly powerful kit, but even with Strive being 'easier', some characters got gutted more badly than others. Why can't Ram have an interesting risk/reward system for her swords? Why are we forced to take away all of El's stances for generic specials just so she can have an absurdly spammable Rekka? Meanwhile Milia gets her kit completely butchered to take away her oki and mixup game to where she's just a worse version of her Xrd appearance.
@@SethAbercromby Guilty Gear installments prior to Strive simply have more complexity than Arcsys was looking for in terms of a new release. I believe that's why they reworked many characters to be more straight-forward. Now, I'm not saying I back that choice - I play Uni after all, and I love fgs with complex characters and mechanics - but as I said, Strive is a different game. I think that these changes to characters are intentional- after all, why would you ever play Xrd again if Strive was just another updated version? It'd be like picking up Sign when Rev 2 exists. I personally think that it's exciting to see new iterations of these characters, and if I ever feel nostalgic, Xrd is two clicks away.
That's why I Love strive : it took the generic Anime design and replaced it with something unique and stylish . Its almost Like they hit the gym after gg xrd
Esphelt was never a generic design though? It was a character in a wedding dress using a rifle, shot gun, pistol and a bouquet and a strawberry as grenade as weapons, her ulti literally summoned a gian wedding cake and she cut you alongside it. Strive design is much more generic, the silhouette has no particular design choices that make her stand out, which is fine, she is kinda like giovanna, a simple design but in no way was the old design generic. And yeah they definitely hit the gym after xrd, chipp looks like a bodybuilder when if you look at older illustration design he had a slim look more adept to a ninja/martial artist, but hey, it's personal taste.
While I disagree that any of Daisuke's designs before Strive were generic, they definitely collectively hit the gym lol. Seeing Zato in Xrd next to himself in Strive is hilarious- "Dude, you look huge!"
The Johnny Comparison was supposed to come first, but that didn't pan out. However! I'm going to do a tuber thing here and say that if this video does well (say, 20 likes?) I'll finish the Johnny video and upload it sometime between the start of January and end of February. A bit of a gamble, but hey, Johnny's a gambling man.
Depending on your difficulty, you might need to grind a bit. Those big crab-looking demons that spawn right before the tower are weak to ice, and give a pretty good amount of xp- you can kill those guys over and over for a decent amount. Also, I HIGHLY recommend doing the sidequest involving Leanan Sidhe and Apsaras before progressing. One, for experience- the other reason is that if you side with Leanan Sidhe, she'll join you- and she has immunity to Dark attacks. If she gets hit by one of the Hydra's dark-affinity moves, his entire turn will end immediately. Leanan Sidhe made the fight trivial on my first run, and she's also a pretty good healer. Good luck!
I'm not sure you'll see this, but if you do, I do want to mention that if you side with Leanan Sidhe, your alignment may shift slightly to Chaos. If you're trying to stick to the Law alignment path, make sure you try to make up for that decision in the quest by siding with some Law demons in the future.
@@Ankha5wait what level does leanan shidhe learn mediarama i think? (i played through all of p4 and picked up smtV a while back as i wanted to see what this was about (also what is alignment and does it matter in a first playthough?)
@@pengeyboss Leanan Sidhe should learn Media at level 18, which should be around a 30HP group heal by the time she gets it. Throughout your playthrough, you'll be given decisions, including dialogue options, that can lean your character towards Law, Chaos, or Neutral alignment. That sidequest is your first introduction to a choice that will effect it, and your alignment will effect the ending you get in the game. You'll have a more formal introduction to some of the factions for each alignment a bit later.
@@Ankha5 it took me under 6 hours but i finally got leanan shide to 18 and my party seems pretty on level for the hydra. No evasion up but i think i could win
I'm 8 months late but definitive edition added campfire cutscenes and if you never enter his house after you kill mens hair club he can appear in one of them
Be sure to comment anything important I might’ve missed! Not only do you get to call me out on my EXPERTLY-crafted video, but it also helps other viewers who check down here in the comments! Thank you all so much for watching!
Something very notable that I missed at 4:28! Not only can you do 4(x) after a spell to quick Bookmark, but you can do 6(x) after Bookmark to quick Chant! This allows you to throw out the spell you get at soon as you get it.
This was probably Strive's best DLC returning character redesign (from a pure cosmetic viewpoint) outside of Testament. Baiken is awesome and Bridget was also pretty cool, but this was a great design that shows progress of the story and looks badass as hell. Don't forget the Theme. Hopefully Season Pass 3 will keep up this trend.
Do not *sleep* on Call 13C in strive, it does way more than buff task b. it buffs any follow up attacks from errors for next 5 seconds by a large margin, giving them special properties, higher damage, instant wall breaks when near the wall and a hard knockdown upon wall break as if it were it's own super. Call 13C is honestly a better install super than ky's dragon install in strive and is a force to be reckoned with.
Call 13C is probably one of the best Install supers in the series, honestly lol. There's not really a trade-off. Besides ABA's Goku Monoha and maybe Robo Ky's self destruct super in ACR, Guilty Gear hasn't had the greatest track record with Install supers being worth the meter. They've always looked really sick, though- Sol's Dragon Install in Xrd is still one of my favorite things they've ever done in GG's gameplay!
