Really liked this interview, love the short scale bass , being lefthanded injured my right wrist awhile back I’m really liking the comfort of my short scale and the sound to me is quite satisfying. Like to look into his basses but a lot of builders shy away from lefthanded builds. Never know might be my next bass. Thanks for sharing Jon.
Here's my 2 cents. Sick Puppies (the Shim era) had a soul. "Sick Puppies" (post Shim) is just a bunch of screaming with no real substance, no meaning, no SOUL. They have become the same as 1 million other wannabe "metal" bands that just don't have that same spark. Like Journey without Steve Perry...Motley Crue without Vince Neal...Black Sabbath without Ozzy Ozbourne. It just doesn't click the way it should. Now I loved Emma and she's an awesome slapper on a meaty track with a decent voice, but she should have known that and stayed in Shim's corner till the end and ditched the manager.
Thank you, Jon. It’s so rare to see this so clearly explained. I practise this as an exercise already, but I have some ideas and am going to the bass right now. Thanks, looking forward to part 2.
Hi, Calvin. Sure do! Take a look at the playlist called "Bass Instruction" on this channel. Hit me up if you any specific questions. I'm happy to help!
1984 Dickie Betts and Brian Setxer guest with Garish and geeky Kenny playing the whole rhythm section to the max and long fingers flicking the strings so emphatically. I love it! The hair kills me!
Thanks for the tips! Due to this video, I just realized that the theme for a comedy show called. “Vecinos” actually just uses the A major scale shape. That’s so cool! I will use your tips as I continue to practice!
Justin's guitar teacher showing him the A flat scale as his first scale wasn't all that odd IMHO; it was divinely orchestrated. A flat is widely considered to be THE 'Gospel music' key by many in the field. Clearly God had a plan for Justin all along...and it manifested in a big way. #respect
Hi Jon , it’s so awesome that I stumbled across your RU-vid channel. I bought your funk fusion book and cd about 26 years ago and I owe you many thanks. That book taught me how to use my fingers and so much more, all these years later I still pull that book out and practice those exercises. Many thanks from Australia. Ps keep on groovin 👌🏻
Wow.. Until I read your comment I hadn’t put the two together. That book was pretty much essential required reading for bassists worldwide pre-interwebs! That & Anthony Vitti’s super advanced technique & sight reading burner’s “Finger funk vol#1” & “Slap bass soloing” took me from experienced late intermediate to proficiently advanced! 😊
Hi John this advice makes total sense. I was getting so bored with the typical bass exercises that did not include a musical idea with them. Chromatic etc. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more of your lessons.
