Angels Flight was built right here. 0:18 This is early though, the tunnel isn't there yet or Angels Flight. The house at the top is Margaret Crocker, wife of a California supreme court judge. By 1920 or so even this house is gone to make room for hotels until it's all gone for good.
The controllers had to allow us ordinary people a time window of relative wealth and enjoyment in order to use our labor to build the system they have now accomplished. They no longer need most of us, so they're getting rid of us. Have a date with the nostalgia, but don't marry it, otherwise it's going to bury you....
🕊️♥️🕊️Those were the Best Years omg seeing All different Stores WhiteFront The Cars back then were Well Made even the Music Helmsman he always had the Best Glaze Donuts Hearing The Ice Cream Man Coming was the Best But Those were The Best Years I have so many Great Memories 🕊️💙🙏🏼💙🕊️
So much shopping; so many big brands I had forgotten.. which came right back to life in my memory. White Front, Harris and Frank, Broadway, May Co. Now we have Walmart…Amazon. I fear Penney’s and Macy are soon to fall. Online is convenient for sure. Try testing out a bed, chair or couch using AI. We still need human contact and tactile experiences. Thanks for the memories. Really enjoyed it.
The best of times. Everything looks like Tijuana now. At the rate we are going, we will be third world in 10 years. Hopefully I’ll be dead. I can’t bear to see what the left has done to my beautiful USA.
Born 58 grew up in Torrance ca. All the intact family mom pop and a place to call home. Parents paid 12k for a four bedroom home. Pop was a welder mom stayed home raise us.😊
Thank you, Gary ! A funny thing happened while watching this video, I, was so into it and the music kicked in and for a moment ( my brain did this) I was back in the 50's and 60's. I, startle myself all of a sudden I, realized it was just a video. Boy , but, what a wonderful feeling it was. Thanks again. 👋😎👍
I was born at InterCommunity Hospital in 1966, and my brother in 1970. Lived in Covina almost my entire life. Great memories of great times in this video. Thank you for sharing!
What a great video. This is brings back so many memories, including how smog it was back then. I was born in Southgate 1960 lived in Paramount, Lakewood and Compton later moved to Escondido
Does anyone remember what was marketed as the worlds largest shopping mall in LA during the late for mid 60s? I remember being told it was 1 mile long, but I don’t remember the name of the shopping mall
Born in Southgate 1960 lived in Paramount Compton Lakewood, then moved to Escondito fast forward all those years now I’m building a house in Ensenada Mexico going. There is like going back in time to the original California
American Colossus America, at midcentury, was a colossus Unchallenged in the world. Because America alone had been a victor. Europe lay in ashes. Only America had been untouched (or lightly touched}. Even Russia, as a worthy opponent, Was a product of American paranoia. This was the world For the next two decades. And Americans were prosperous. Millions who had grown up in poverty Were relatively prosperous. There was a reason for optimism. And art, that flower on the end of a long stem, burst forth On both coasts. In NYC, on the east coat, In theater, in the musical. And on the west coast in Hollywood. The great form the optimism took was the musical. Rogers and Hammerstein were its premier duo. Hollywood gave us Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne. The central woman. The central man. This state of affairs lasted until the assassination of Kennedy. And though everything I say may be a lie It is a necessary lie.
Interesting you would show Dorothy Kilgallen here with Dr. Finch here, since she herself would be murdered in 1965. Also that Tregoff woman was constantly "playing" for the cameras, ALWAYS says (in the way she dressed, sitting in the car with the sunglasses on, the "I'm so beautiful" look on her face etc...etc...)
To everything turn turn turn... there is a season turn turn turn. Life was much more free and exciting back then. Oh how much the culture of California has changed.
So agree in the 60’s I used to walk to my friends house which wasn’t close but I didn’t care no one bother me it was so Care Free Back then how I miss them awesome Years🕊️💙🙏🏼💙🕊️
I'm a 63 to 89 La Puente resident! We probably know alot of the same people from that time especially if you went to LPHS. I'm class of 78. Your name sounds very familiar!
Not in Pacifica. The waves are challenging. Tricked out rigs are common. Cali is weird that way. Like nothing new under the sun here. Except the newcomers moving into the ones houses that left paradise for greener pastures. Surfs up!
Great pics. I was born in 1970. I grew up with some of those locations. My mom worked across from the Donut Hole and In-n-Out Burger for years. Ernie’s and The Great Wall were two of our family’s favorite restaurants.
How odd to find this on youtube. My father's store was the store window on the left at 1:15 in, on the video. It was Cooper's Jewelry, which was followed by See's Candies, with May Company on the right. So glad to find this footage. What a miracle!
