To be honest, this was 9 years ago. Most thieves now use battery powered mini grinders which will cut through most gold rated locks and chains in 2 minutes or less with the appropriate cutting disc. Even the most expensive diamond rated 300 bucks+ locks can be cut through completely in less than ten minutes. Or cut through that bike rack in less than two minutes and throw the bike into a van and cut the big lock of later on. All bike racks can be cut through in less than two minutes with a good battery powered mini grinder. Security is a battle that's hard to win against a determined thief.
To be honest I was expecting it to be faster the breaking of lock! Off course any can be broken but a thief needs to be fast and clearly here is not happening
Given enough time and violence every lock will be either openend, bypassed or broken. Time, visibility and noise are your friends. So where and to what are you locking it, and will anyone be likely to come check. Thats all we can do...
There is no perfect lock. If a thief really wants your bike they will find a way to steel it. A professional criminal will get what they want. Locks prevent the recreational theft, someone who rides off the unlocked bike. Locking up a bike for long term, all day at work? Parking is best done with more than one lock. Make the theft of your bike take more time than another bike parked near your, the criminals will take the easier to steal bike. Make your bike unattractive, sticker it to death. One lady repainted her bike. She painted it red, white and blue. She painted it with latex paint and a paint brush. It worked fine but, it was ugly as sin.
Unfortunately even if you have a top quality lock that costs more than 300 bucks, a thief can cut through that bike rack in less than 2 minutes with a mini angle grinder. Or if he's well equipped and brave enough to stick it out, the 300 bucks lock in less than 10 minutes. 99.8% of people will completely ignore a thief with an angle grinder on a public street in broad daylight. They will not get involved.
This is a very good lock! First of all look at your cutter. Not a single thieft uses material the size of half a person. Secondly the amount of noise it produced. And last it took you for way too long. A thieft wants it open in under 15 seconds. So this lock is very theft proof
Didn't they improve the Evolution series of U-locks with the "Series 4" indicator? Do these still work with the inferior locking side and the better locking side?

I really like that it has a twisting lock feature to keep out dirt and debris. However, the mounting system is much too light for the lock, and continues to get loose/move around. It's mostly made of plastic parts, and I've had to tighten it a few times in the past week or so that I've had it. I'm worried that it's going to break off at some point while I'm riding. I'm considering just scrapping that part, but that would mean having to carry the heavy lock i my backpack and adding more weight. I wish I could have given this more stars, but without the mounting system, it's just another heavy lock that I have to cart around. UPDATE: Increased rating to 5 stars because the seller offered to provide a new lock and mounting system. Really appreciate the attention to customer service!!
It is what it is, It’s a good, compact lock for quick stops or as a wheel lock. I have a second 10mm link chain lock, shorty so it doesn’t weigh too much or take up much space, on the e bike for longer stops. If a thief rolls up with a toolbox or a lock picking team and tries to take my bike from the high traffic area I’d park it in the first place, I lose, but it’s worked out so far in San Diego, which is not so classy when it comes to bike theft. 2 small decent locks is the best method I’ve used to date, the only minimal downside is the time needed to use 2 locks, other than that it’s flexible, effective and unobtrusive while riding.
I bought the previous version on sale to keep the bike locked in the middle of deliveries on uber eats. Safe to say I wont leave it for more than 20 mins.
