No because in a busy street like that the owner can still come at any moment, which 2-person group has the guts to look to the owner with a camera and a bolt cutter LOL
yeah right like a thief is gonna drag this all the way down the block with the parking stand youll catch up to em by then they wanna be quick an easy in and out just buy more locks itll deter most theives
We attempt to cut the shackle on a #Kryptonite #Evolution Mini using 12" and 30" bolt cutters. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3eNI_SH29w8.html @kryptonitelock
The lock is just on the frame, not through it. Don' t do that. A thief could cut the hollow mild steel rack in one second, then just ride away. (he might have to secure the lock with a bit of cord)
I have seen many videos of the grey Series 2 lock being cut with bolt cutters but I have never seen a video of the Kryptonite Evolution getting cut with bolt cutters.
Bolt cutters are hard on this lock, but I have had two Evolution minis cut with angle grinders over the past decade. You'll never beat a thief using one of those.
If someone is using and angle grinder than you chose a bad location to lock your bike and/or left it there for too long. The kryp evolution chain lock is great against grinders because it's hard to get a hold of
@@thebestever333 agree 100% if they had angle grinders then your location is poor. Thiefs like to go in and out if its a good location then they would nt bother 9 times out of 10
@@butWhyDad the kryptonite chain locks like the 1090 will stop angle grinders. Even solid ones like the hiplock dx1000 are impossible to get through with an angle grinder.
Didn't they improve the Evolution series of U-locks with the "Series 4" indicator? Do these still work with the inferior locking side and the better locking side?
Which Mini was this? I'm trying to decide between the light Mini 5, which has a 13mm shackle, and the slightly heavier Mini 6, which as an 11mm shackle.
Thanks for the review, I'm guessing the 18mm one is going to give thieves a helluva problem then especially if its locked up high if this one is so strong on its own.
lacosamia93 there are already tests with them not on this channel they used bolt cutters on the granit x plus 540 it took 48 seconds with an angle grinder cutting it 2 sides to release it and the bolt cutters did no damage and broke. Type I’m 540 Abus test lock angle grinder and bolt cutters
Kryptonite has new small lightweight lock. The Evoution LITE Mini 6. I would like to see if bolt cutters will cut it. It is only 11 mm thick. The regular evolution locks are 13 mm thick.
@@SugaHoneyIceTea36 that sux (I do wish there was video of it) . The steel on the 6 is supposedly harder than the others. I guess the ability to leverage down more on 11mm over 13mm wins out. Is there a lighter / mini version with the 13mm? I don't need the extra length of the lock, and I find that the thicker appearance of the cylinder seems to daunt thieves (and the shorter U gives less places to get leverage). btw if somebody still ends up with a mini-6 like me, definitely suck the grit out of the lock and blow it out of the rotating cuff, spin it around until the grit stops and spins smoothly and key goes in smoothly. The grit from the cuff can ruin the lock, but once the chaff is off it's fine.
@@janglestick Go on their website. They have "Evolution Mini-4" through to "Evolution Mini-9" or something like that, with the number indicating the length in inches.
A thief broke my friend's mini evolution krptyo u-lock (same one in this video). Not sure what they used but it was likely a saw. Two thieves cut through the larger grey krypto u-lock (not evolution series) of one of my neighbors this am. I think the krypto chain lock for motorcycles is the best way to avoid bike theft in a high-crime city.
they look great on websites and catalogues but have you ever held one of those locks? they're back breakers and weigh more than my bike... each link is the size of a medium potato, they're very heavy locks.
The Kryptonite Kryptolok Series 2 Integrated Chain has not yet been tested with hydraulic bolt cutters by the lock picking lawyer ;) It's also pretty light but is it solid enough to resist bolt cutters?
you can even cut the large diameter tubes on bike racks fairly easily with any cheap hacksaw. You don't need a quality blade either, dollar store faire will suffice. this rack however is particularly awful, it is not only removable by undoing only one nut, but the part you are "supposed" to lock onto is croppable with bolt cutters and the whole stand is rusty, seemingly made of very low grade steel. So even if you just had a brick, you could dent the stand and then keep flexing it till it snapped.
You cant really walk down a street with a 36" bolt cutter lol, what i tend to do is use multiple locks and twin anchor points as much as possible, what i have noticed is i came back and they had not touched mine at all, but the bike in front had teeth marks - not sure what was used, and a bike behind had the same marks, and there was just a backwheel behind that still chained to the secure bar. My locks are all kryptonite - mini front wheel to frame, rear wheel through frame to bar, hi tensile cable front to back and through pedal crank, and a third krytonite to a secondary point usually it only just reaches. OK it takes up two bays, but hey they left it alone - didnt even try to go for it.
deadbirdy I live atm back in UK, here they cant get away with that. ***** jesus is a popular name in some parts of the USA, so a cop called jesus would be the most likely way your reply could happen.
+deadbirdy Those cordless grinders don't work on onguard beast chains. It'll take over an hour which is probably more than the battery life of that crap or how many razors you are going t have to go through.
+CK Wunch Can you walk around with a backpack? Yes. So you can walk around with a 36" cutter. Plus, at least in my city, bike thieves are organized enough that they could easily carry even bigger tools. Biggest factor is noise, which is why you don't see them around with power tools, but if they could, they would.
+CK Wunch If you can cut one, you can cut the other so it won't make a difference how much you tether or anchor and it' also true what the others are saying about carrying stuff in bags or hardware boxes. Like I said before, the best way to go about it is to have a light weight lock/chain for regular and everyday areas and a heavy duty lock/chain for dangerous areas. I have an onguard beast pad luck and chain that is long enough to go through all parts of my bicycle.
u need bolt cutter bigger than those two the one that are like 24 inches length..also with a bigger jaw possibly the one u see nypd or other security type department uses like fdny lols...or the one that school uses to clip your locks when u lock it overnight and dont remove your lock....
the weight of the person pressing the cutter is meaningless, he could apply more pressure if he would push against something from the top. (the ground is the bottom leverage and the top one could be if he crouched and push from the metal stand where the bike is standing. -> basically his back muscles could put out much more pressure than his weight) still, someone else might break it if he is stronger, or just use some grinder
Ive cut this lock with bolt cutters... This guy doesn't know how to use them... You cant just put all your weight down.. you gotta bounce.. hard... rhythm...
hi nice videos. I'm wondering if you can recomend me a good lock for my bicycle. I'm from Chile and I will go to ride across america and I need a super safety and light lock I have 250 dollar for buying it
I Free'd a stripped frame in front of 3 people who did not believe i could and in less then 60 secs.. i picked the frame up twisted the frame till the lock could no longer move and with 1 final twist snapped the u lock off.. easy as pie.. yes i had lots of leverage using the frame and yes i dented the frame good.. but it was free and My point was made, and that was, if someone wants your bike bad enough.. with time and a little brains the bikes gone
dude i could have cut that you cannot use bolt cutters cut a point and bounce on it it’s going through with smaller bolt you cutters you can cut solid steal you literally just out your weight in it and the pressure moves the handle to the side you need to keep them straight and apply pressure on and off send me a lock i’ll prove you wrong
Of course the "smart" thief will simply use the bolt cutters to snip through the seat stay like it's a little piece of wire. Walk the bike around the corner, toss into the back of truck, drive away, sell parts.
+Michael Cher I said the seat stay is "like" a piece of wire....as compared to a battery powered angle grinder. The angle grinder will cut through those bike tubes like butter in seconds. Pull the lock through the cut frame, toss it in a pickup, sell parts.
I've never seen an Evo sold for $65 , they are much cheaper than that even in the UK where they cost considerably more than the US. Also that bike stand is the worst I have ever seen. You could lift it off the ground by undoing just one bolt. You can also easily crop the skinny bar that the bike is locked to with your small bolt cutters. It will be made of mild steel that you could cut even with a wire saw.
Many like that where I live here in Ottawa. That's because cities, which are run by car people, for car people don't understand the problem and if they don't care. The police will do literally nothing if someone steals your bike. It is not taken at seriously no matter how expensive the bike is. They will, however, spend their entire shift running licence plates looking for stolen cars - because stealing cars is a very "bad" thing in a city run by car people for car people.
I haven't had any HUGE issues with this lock yet! ru-vid.comUgkxfyHDlEqk6hqu9acdvK5NGzZsGKSokSbv It seems sturdy and like it will get the job done. I really like that it has a twisting lock feature to keep out dirt and debris. However, the mounting system is much too light for the lock, and continues to get loose/move around. It's mostly made of plastic parts, and I've had to tighten it a few times in the past week or so that I've had it. I'm worried that it's going to break off at some point while I'm riding. I'm considering just scrapping that part, but that would mean having to carry the heavy lock i my backpack and adding more weight. I wish I could have given this more stars, but without the mounting system, it's just another heavy lock that I have to cart around. UPDATE: Increased rating to 5 stars because the seller offered to provide a new lock and mounting system. Really appreciate the attention to customer service!!
That 30" bolt cutter is not correctly setup, you have to increase the gap between cutters and then the handles will come closer too each other and you get maximum leverage. You are not even getting 50% with that bolt cutter, and it would in no doubt, cut that in 2 seconds if the gap was correctly set :) I prefer to use cordless drill operated bolt cutters "hydraulic", they are small and fast.
It dont take a genius to work out that this sort of lock was not going to be cut with bolt cutters you need a grinder still entertaining to watch your try
This is not true, the large cutter 100% can cut off with this only 13 mm hardened shackle, Do not trust this video if you not wish for become victim of the bike theif.
He ain't 200 lbs, that is 90 kg...he's built like a twig...Krypto NEW U locks are pretty crop resistant..that mini 5 is an old type with a bent foot shackle.
