Loved the trip down memory lane. In 1952 my parents purchased a deep freeze, and received an aluminum and laminate table with 6 chairs as a premium! Those were the days. The freezer worked until 2004 and I recently gifted the table and chairs to my best friend who loves them.
We had that red table in green. Loved that thing. And, that bookcase bed was in my room. Loved it too. And, $4400 for an electric wheelchair is about right. Some go for as high as $10K, depending on the specs.
Love your catalogue videos! They are so much fun and yes it may not be about furniture entirely but knowing or seeing what the cost of some of these items with today’s inflated rates is important for us to be aware of and so much fun!! Thanks Angie it was another great video!!
Regarding the 30” or smaller waist sizes - remember that almost all women at that time wore either girdles or corsets to keep everything packed tight and jiggle free!! 😂
What an incredible space you have created for yourself! I love the dark color, including on the ceiling -- it makes the space seem bigger while at the same time cozy. Such a wonderful space for your creativity!
I remember those spindly legs on the couches and chairs "going lame" after a while because of the large and small bodies flopping on and off them. Inevitably, one or more legs would break somehow.
Angie, thanks for sharing this stroll down memory lane! The price differences are really interesting, especially considering that quality has really dropped over time.
The matching blonde dining / bedroom furniture was my mother in law! Still have a matching end tables that was my mothers and I was born in 1957! My bd is this week! It was a great year! Thanks, Angie for a time travel!
Being born in 1951 I remember most of these items. My mum used to dress up to the nines when going out, Hat gloves, high heel shoes and perfect makeup and hair 😂. Ah the simple life 😊
Wow. I grew up with some of this furniture. The chenille bed spreads, the fuzzy toilet tank covers. We had that chrome kitchen table and chairs which my Mum still has in the basement as a craft table for grandkids. I like some of the fashions for women back then too.
I find old mags. and catalogues fascinating too. It would be interesting to know what the average family income would have been at that time. I bought a couple of Sears Craftsman router bits once - in the UK !
I remember grandma would sit my very young children on the kitchen floor with the sears Christmas catalog, (while grandma prepared dinner) to keep them occupied and they were so involved with that catalog for hours! Special memories
People have been painting furniture for literally thousands of years. All types of wood. It’s not the end of the world. I just didn’t want to do it here.
what you were saying about shoe sizes the opposite is true today I have tiny feet I wear a womans size 5 and unless you live in the city its dam hard to get size 5 shoes! everthing startsbat size 6 which is a full size too big
I have 6 dining chairs, solid wood of some sort. Got at an auction 30 years ago when I was a struggling single mom. It came with a solid wood table that is gorgeous, 2 built in extensions. I wish I knew how to bring the chairs up a notch. They need attention. They come from that period, but not flat pack.
In Chicago in the 60's you could buy tombstones thru Sears catalog. Also Western horse saddles. I don't know you could could buy either thru Amazon these days.
