4:16 you maybe surprised to know that the bridge was actually built post WW2 in the late 1940s the original route from the 1880s is currently underwater at Fontana Lake. This is due to the Construction of Fontana Dam during the War. The lake was man made and because of that the railroad was rerouted to the tracks they used today
@DogsTrainsOfficial
@DogsTrainsOfficial 18 дней назад
Thank you for the clarification. I estimated that the original tracks would have reached this point by 1884. I couldn't find anything about when they reached Bryson City, but I was able to find out when they reached Murphy and how long it took them to build from Bryson City to Murphy. Using that information, I came to the conclusion that a bridge was probably built here in 1884. Thanks for watching and commenting!

It’s a shame they’re getting rid of 1009. Prior to this video, I hadn’t seen it run since July of last year, so I was wondering what was up with it. I always forget that it’s actually a GP35 (physically) that was mechanically upgraded to GP38 specifications. The other diesel on the roster that I’m pondering its fate is 1755. It stays in the yard at Dillsboro. The last I know of it running was last October when it picked up 4210 from the Blue Ridge Southern interchange in Sylva. My guess is that it’ll be retired, if not already, and used for parts for 1751.
@DogsTrainsOfficial
@DogsTrainsOfficial 21 день назад
From what I hear 1009 has broken down and they just decided to sell it. Maybe they'll buy another locomotive and give it the "Support Our Troops" paint. As for 1755, it's definitely worrying. It hasn't run for almost a year, just like 711, and we all know what happened to it. However, all hope is not lost. 1755 will probably run again, when they need it. It will probably run again on the Polar Express Excursion. After all, 1755 is the Polar Express locomotive. However, if it doesn't run for another year it might be internally scrapped like 777. But it might just be sold. GSMR has bought and sold a bunch of locomotives over the years, some still run to this day on other railroads.

You do know this locomotive has been put up for sale right? the GSMR was having problems keeping it running so they decided to sell it, granted the more I looked into the service life of the poor thing it's a wonder it lasted as long as it did, it's a GP-38-3, seriously look into the GP-38-3's a rather funky rework for what is basically a rather solid design of locomotive to start with despite their age.
@DogsTrainsOfficial
@DogsTrainsOfficial 26 дней назад
I'm aware of that. I saw it up for sale one day on Ozark Mountain Railcar. 1009 was originally built in 1964, so it's 60 years old. It was rebuilt by Western Rail Locomotive in Spokane, Washington, so that's probably why it lasted so long. Still, it's sad to see it go. It will probably have the heritage paint replaced by the railroad that buys it. It never had time to become a very popular heritage unit, so I hope that GSMR brings back the "Support Our Troops" paint scheme for another locomotive. It would also make for a great looking model train. Hopefully it will be fixed up and returned to service by the railroad that buys it. By the way, here's the link to 1009's listing: ozarkmountainrailcar.com/railEquipment.php?itemId=3777&map=y&search=North%20Carolina Thanks for watching and commenting!

I hope you get the chance to see it! However I have a suggestion. 1009 is up for sale on OzarkMountainRailcar.com and may soon leave the GSMR, but you may still have a chance to see it. They will have to move it from Dillsboro to Asheville by Blue Ridge Southern Railway after it's sold. If I were you I would wait till the day listing is no longer on Ozark Mountain Railcar then try to catch it between Dillsboro and Asheville. They may still run again but you'd have to get lucky.

@DogsTrainsOfficial Месяц назад
@@HyperLink_NotBlocked35 No, it's not a bug. My Lionel Legacy dreyfuss hudson quills automatically with both the LionChief and Cab 3 apps. It seems to do more or less quilling based on the whistle you use and the number of times you blow the whistle. GSMR.com says that they are converting it to oil burning and cut the fuel bunker and water tank loose from the frame. Maybe this is a 3rd tender that has been stripped of its parts to rebuild 722's tender. However this is likely 722's tender frame and they are storing it out of their way so they can work on other stuff in the shop. Thanks for watching and commenting!

No, I haven't been back since I made this short. I recently passed by it's shed in Bryson City, but didn't see it there. On January 5th, I saw a trailer in Dillsboro that was loaded with steam locomotive parts. I suspected that they where for 722's restoration but come to think of it the trailer was loaded with rusted cylinders and some leading wheels. Maybe they came from the 1702, but they likely came from 722. The next 1702 excursion that I can find is scheduled for early July, so they must be doing some serious maintenance. Maybe they're replacing the steel tires.
