Welcome to The Fleshman Farm! Here, we homestead in a city. In a year, we'll be transitioning to a larger scale, full farming operation practicing regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and all the crazy things we learn from now to then. Follow along with us on this journey to see just how we make it work!
Celadron is a ressesiv gene and can only be breed, hvis Bouth parents has the gene, just so you know.....and its NOT diffrent breeds, only diffrent colors. but really exitet for you, that a wery got start :) congrats.
To keep them indoors you will need to seal up your household vents and get three HVAC filter pads and a box fan. Make them into a box. this will take away some of the dust they create. Otherwise your whole house will be filled with it. It will clog your home system quickly. I know from personal experience!
I would not let this clueless couple keep quail. I almost lost the will to live during that monologue about a simple airlock. The cages are the epitome of cruelty. He didn’t know they could fly ‘that much’; they’re birds. And their handling was cringeworthy; hold them appropriately and transfer them in subdued light. You guys need educating. You’re hobbyists - but you’re dealing with living creatures. Too much to dislike here.
Yep! they make fantastic pets easy to train, easy to keep, easy to house, cheap to feed, they lay edible eggs and if something goes wrong rather than a huge vet bill you get a free meal instead..... that's a win win situation,,,,,,
As a former vegan did she feel like the quails were happy while you guys had them living in the Hatching Time cages? I'm thinking of getting quail for the first time but I'm a bit worried the tiny cages are a bit cruel like raising chickens in battery cages. I know you guys don't have them in HT cages any more, but I was wondering if you'd do it again or recommend it to people just trying to get started in the city.
Can you hear the quails from other rooms in your house? I live in a duplex and my spare bedroom is on a shared wall with my neighbor. Do you think they'll be able to hear it on the other side of the wall? (I'm mostly worried about the males crowing.)
You’re too kind! Yes, we’re alright! We just moved to Mississippi and in the process of getting our home set up, so there hasn’t been much to report on in this season of transition! We will be doing videos again shortly!
I can't stand the female content creator here... sorry bruh your stuck with her lol and neither of you seem to know hardly shit about your "hobby" new or not its a bit sad.... those are life's you are calling a hobby, should know alot more b4 getting into caring for living creatures.
I kno I’m late. I’m just finding y’all but I didn’t kno if y’all kno or not but they make special scissors for quail eggs bc it’s hard to just hand crack the eggs bc the membrane is so thick vs the shell.
Unfortunately for the birds, your mistake is a common one. You are using the dietary requirements of chickens-but quails are not chickens. They are game birds and therefore need a much higher protein percent in their diet. 30% protein from hatching till first egg is laid. Reduce the protein then to 24%-27% and raise calcium in order to avoid bound egg problems. Your birds are malnourished and not getting the best start on life that they could be. If you don’t want to get the standard Game Bird Starter feed then increase their protein intake with additions. Next, heat is not required for forced egg laying, just light. Fourteen hours is all it takes. A string of Christmas lights is enough; no spotlight. Think soft like sunrise and sunset to start and end days with. There are a lot of good poultry forums out there you should check out before making more videos like this. Your birds will be happier, healthier and so will the birds of others trying to learn from you. Love the HT hutches! Cheers and good luck!
Thank you so much for the advice!! This was filmed months ago, so we’ve made many adjustments for their nourishment and happiness since. We’ve switched to game bird feed, and put them in an open run instead of the hatching time cages. We haven’t done a quail update for a long time since we’ve moved twice and had many many things going on, but an update is coming!! We definitely appreciate your advice and will implement it next hatch!!
That is so good to hear!! Thank you for your kind response. Keep up de good work and hobby. I have quails too, love them. Greetings from the Netherlands!
Look on RU-vid there's loads on there put up by hatching time showing and telling you how too put them together by the looms of it you've done it all wrong
There is a lot of info in skoolie groups. Same concept. Floating floor so you don't get that damage when you move. Ac suggestions. Those cabinets might be beat to rip out fully, open the living space, and you can strategically storage when you bring in furniture... like build your couch and create storage space, or slide food pantries. So so much info.
Hatching Times website says between 5-7 birds per cage, but we won’t be maxing them out. Quail like to be in small spaces because it makes them feel safe from predators.
