The old MCTC was to a trained soldier what old style basic training was to a civilian - a nasty, grueling and relentless shock to the system. This documentary offers a flavour of Colly, but the reality was a lot harsher and nastier. If your face didn't fit, or you struggled with the basics, you were fcked. Everybody who says that civilian prisons should be like this doesn't realise that you'd need a very high ratio of screws to prisoners (and recourse to serious brutality) to enforce the discipline. MCTC was a form of corrective basic training for soldiers, not a prison. Soldiers under sentence could all read and write, weren't drug addicts, and most of them returned to their units where they had a structured existence with a salary, support network and a purpose in life. MCTC was completely different on every level to the civilian prison system. There was minimal comparison. The modern MCTC is a joke.
I WAS A COMBAT MEDICAL TECHNICHIAN AT COLCHESTER MILITARY HOSPITAL AND WAS CALLED OUT TO THE GLASSHOUSE TO COLLECT A MAN PRETENDING TO BE DEAD IN COLLY,
Simple , just refuse to train. You’re in jail not boot camp. What are they going to do to you ? If i didnt see a possibility of a good life in the military id say screw it. Just kick me out.
Must be the only job where you get treated like absolute dog shit from day one, get restricted priveliges for fluff on your beret or some other misdemeanour and jailed for having a punch up with your mates. And they wonder why nobody wants to enlist. Absolute joke of a country now. 😊
This was Rishi Sunak plan to bring back Compulsory National Service , I’m sure his Multi Culti lot would settle in fine with the strict Military Regime We went through as National Servicemen . Don’t think Starmer won’t bring it in he would love to Gift Zelenski Nazi Army with a couple of hundred thousand young British Soldiers,
I’m a bloke and I did 4 years in civvie prison (black and white HMP) and I tell you this, we had a FAR tougher time in civilian jail than the women featured in this documentary in the glass house. It’s unbelievable how much softer the women got the punishment compared to the men.
The Glasshouse numbers will be through the roof with new national service, so many kids are cross addicted to multiple drugs they haven't a hope of completing their service.
I would knock on his door and shout out Private Pulcino reporting as orders I would wait until the command to enter is given I would enter smartly and salute and address Private Pulcino reports as ordered I would then stand at attention and wait for further orders and only speak when told to do so,I would do my very best to improve my Military appearance.
2 ND chance to improve yourself and change your ways to be better Soldiers, alife long goal to improve yourself in the Military. If I was there I would follow every order without question. I don't drink or smoke or use drugs only bad thing about me is age,I would give my soul to be a Private again. Heaven to me would be in the Army forever
Wish the American Military would learn and follow these Soldiers, in the American Military they throw you out like yesterday's garbage, simple solution the English has.
I was released just before filming began. A few good lads and lassies here. Ewan Black was my provost sergeant at training depot before joining MCTC. A great guy.
The staff there are no good at their parent units. RP Staff etc Wasters If they were decent soldiers they’d have stayed with their parent units. Not exactly a good career move.
