For me it gave me an error saying it was missing some files, I ignored it and said “ your network is not using the dhcp protocol” and it won’t let me get past it
I managed to snag an HP pro desk 400 for £50. Lobbed in more RAM and its the ideal home / Minecraft server. One big issue though is you cant run full home assistant on casa OS, and a cautionary note - if you do try and install the full phat version back up your HDD. I tried and it destroyed linux.
WHY DID THEY USE A TOUCH DYNAMIC FILE SERVER FOR A KITCHEN SCREEN HOLY SHIT!? i work in the industry that supplies, installs and maintains these kinds of systems and that is just WILDLY inefficient to just run a couple monitors!
A slightly off-topic question, although related to your way of testing computers. I would like to be able to demonstrate with some test that a computer is faster/efficient when using 2x16GB DDR5 than using 1x32GB DDR5 of the same speed due to the dual channel. Is this true? If so, with which application would you perform this test to have a more visual demonstration? Thank you.
Thanks for the belated "goober" disclaimer. I was honestly irritated by that point as to why you would make a video when you clearly didn't know what you were doing. I hope it worked out.
The J1900 CPU has been superceded by the J6412, which is now the defacto CPU for Point of Sale hardware. No, noone cares if you have this device. I know someone who uses a couple for torrent boxes! They generally come supplied with Win10 LTSC, which as the name suggests has extended support beyond 2025. The "Bump 1" suggests this box was used as a KDS (kitchen food display device) which would either attach to a touchscreen monitor or a "bump bar" ....a common feature in fast food outlets
I recently bought an Asustor NAS. It was 1.5 tiers up from a Drivestor (Nimbustor G2). I chose it because Asustor is specifically OK with people installing third-party OSes, and I wanted to use OMV. So some of your point about building your own giving you software options isn’t really valid, although it helps if you at least get one that has an x64 CPU instead of ARM.
Sudo didnt work for me so had to it with root by typing su -, it said the files where locked. then you can do it all but skip the word sudo everywhere, example, apt update without sudo. type in all fails in chatgpt
0:23 : PI Knockoffs are by definition better. I think this is one of the cases where adding knockoff is an indicator of having a superior model that you didn't pay a Fame tax for. I never understood why people kept buying and promoting PI's after they price hiked the shit out of them. This under the excuse of shortages, meanwhile copycats with the same parts or better were around 4-5 bucks. and less in bulk. Buying PI is buying anti Maker.
repasted my laptop, took time for some odd reason, but it cooled off. also have it on my ryzen 5 3600xt and i haven’t breached 72c with the stock thicker cooler (thinner was worse but marginally, so i consider using it for my ryzen 3 1200
It would make for a decent mikrotik router if anything. Then again, you can just buy an L009 for a hundred bucks... so unless it's free, it's really not worth much for anything lol.
I hate those goddamned things. Fought with one at work to try and get it setup on our domain, only to find out that security conflicts and software failures on our end, wouldn't cooperate with the vendors OS build per their requirements, so we couldn't utilize them in any capacity... all to just run one simple fucking program to display food retail menus, and I got CRUCIFIED by my leadership because I wasted too much time trying to get it to work and getting everyone on our engineering team and the vendor to fucking cooperate so we could get it to work! Apparently, I should have just punted the job to someone else instead and not even tried. Oh well.
I'm almost 40 and I've lived in the US my entire life and I've never heard of Marcos Pizza. I had to Google it to verify it was a real thing. Seems to be good reviews for this place.
I just bought (and am currently using) an 8th gen version of this with 16 GB of RAM for $120! I should have known it was too good to be true, and that there's a reason these are being pulled after just five years of corporate service: their propensity to spool up like a jet engine when they get too hot -- and there's no proper fix for it. The case is very clever and actually a pleasure to work on, but the thermals are the worst I've ever seen. I cut a hole in the side to accommodate a 120 mm fan and tapped into the +5V line for the DVD burner to power it. (I originally used an internal USB header, but those keep delivering standby power and I wanted the fan to turn off when I put the PC to sleep.) The tach line is going to fan header AUX2 so it can be monitored. It's ugly, but it works without adding a whole lot of noise, and it should even be good enough for a video card to be added although I'll probably have to run the 120 mm fan a bit faster at that time. Lenovo really needs to redesign their pizza oven. Do we really need an optical drive anymore? Do we really need space for a 3.5" hard drive? Omit those and it should be possible to get some fans in there.
The J1900 definitely benefits from dual channel memory operation due to the memory bandwidth limitations of single channel ram especially for the integrated graphics. It looks like the oem of that board only designed it for a single ram slot so unfortunately THAT is not an option for this system.
6:28 actually, the rear fan was installed correctly: it blew cool air into the case and into the CPU fan (and warm air was blown out by the PSU fan) :P
One hard drive is more expensive than all your used components combined. I can build one with zero dollar too if someone can donate all the equipment to me. All the click baits on RU-vid today (not just this one)...
