As a single mum, how i managed living in VIC is to go through an agency with a risk of homelessness program asap, even if you have a rental. Investors are pulling out due to land taxes being raised here and our townhouse went up for sale within 12m of moving in here. Agency put us on priority and in 8m (regional) we were offered a brand new 2 bedroom that wont be sold in the school district, we can stay for good and not even have to ask for minor changes. If you are metro, prepare to leave metro VIC, not just because of housing but because of social collapse, too dangerous to stay in metro. land taxes are forcing landlords to bail so even if we found another place in the regions, we would be likely evicted again in the short term and on and on it goes. We are leaving because we cant afford rent anywhere in the state, let alone the risk of long term. Even if you have a job, on single income I would go to director of housing or at least register, and if you get notice to sale get out, dont wait around to find out if you will be renting long term, you will end up homeless and transitional will have a wait list as well, so buy a tent. This is especially for VIC, but not all real estates will continue to accomodate anyone working income or not, the risks are too high that you wont be able to compete. The breath of depression is stability, so cast off the shame and go and find something long term or face this again in the near future if in VIC, I would advise the same in any state if you are not owning. The situation will worsen as banks start to foreclose on the risk takers who mortgaged during the pandemic, we are not nearly at the peak of this issue yet.

I recommend dr Scott Eilers' yt channel/podcast, he is a clinical psychologist and has a lot of free, super useful content for people who struggle mentally <3 Probably the best mental professional out there I've come across on the internet (he used to suffer from severe depression himself). i got one in caboolture qld from overseas its 625 a week tho just to get something secured took it from photos our biggest problem was getting a place for our cat that is coming from overseas

Huni I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this but you’re not alone. This is everywhere. Here in the states too. It’s as bad if not worse. Only difference I see is you say you were given only two weeks notice? Is that correct? In the states we are given 60 to 90 days notice. How are they expecting you to come up with enough money and find something under the current housing crisis in just 2 weeks? I pray you find something. Even if you have to have roommates or live with family temporarily until you are able to find something for yourself once more. Good luck! 🌹 Edit: we pay what we call security which is what you call a bond and we also have to make sure the place is decently clean and the floors must also be at least broom swept. We usually pay two weeks security however and not 4. In the states we also aren’t given that money back immediately. Landlords here have up to 30 days to refund you so you can’t even expect to utilize that money for moving expenses! It’s just insane. I was in your predicament 2 years ago and it’s the most fear I’ve ever experienced in my life!

If I was your lessor I wouldn't kick you out to the streets, I don't know why knowing there is crisis these "lessors" dare to just kick people out for money. If the lessor had to increase rent due to financial problems I would understand but I'm almost sure it's due to greed. Disgusting!

Time this country introduced long term leasing like elsewhere in the world! These 6/12 month lease contracts are completely worthless and inadequate. Even commercial leasing contracts have better provisions.
(Sorry for my bad English i'm a self learner) Same in Quebec Canada, if my proprietor decide to sell this house i live in, i'm donzo, i used to be able to look for appartement online and see some within my budget and now its ... pretty hard and the little there is they are all being disputed, like there are always many callers already wanting to rent this appartement and then marked up for the highest bidder, in 2010 i used to be in a 4 1/2 for 400 bucks electricity included me and my mother lived there for like more than 15 years, mind you it was in the more country side of Quebec, i then went into a 2 and a half in a very little city for 495 alone, i now live in colocation for about 450 back in my hometown, there are new units being built, but the truth is, most of them are above the thousands and look pretty luxurious, which obviously end up in the rent cost, family are okay to pay for those, but for someone alone, its a big burden and very unneeded, i just need a clean space with the utilities and outlets working and you know obviously IF people are in a nice (by nice i mean, mordern but basic) appartement that doesnt cost you an arm in the black market, well they dont plan to leave anytime soon for you to get in, sooo if you want to live alone and like saving money or have personnal projects or hobbies.. and you dont have a good credit... tough luck, its not surprising to hear now that someone works 2 week out of a month JUST to pay for the BASIC rent cost in a city, not counting cables, phones, food, electricity, netflix and so on you may have, its getting pretty scary
I was lucky enough to have a friend that has a caravan on an owned property, I will save up for a van/truck and will never enter the rental market again., no power, no rent, no dealing with the cabal of real estate or those that contribute to the cost of living. Humans have lived for hundreds of thousands of years without these financial vampires, nomad FTW, FTA.
Appreciate you putting this out there. I'm fortunate enough that I don't have to worry about my living situation, but I wonder how many have already passed the breaking point and are just too ashamed to talk about it? Things are just so stuffed at the moment. I have already seen a few people sleeping on the streets, but I have to imagine there are a lot more that are sleeping in cars, or on friends couches, or camping in secret places, that are trying their best to keep it hidden because they're ashamed. It can only end badly
